These joint practices tend to be more beneficial than the preseason game itself. The Browns have already revealed fifth round quarterback Shedeur Sanders as their starter for the preseason opener, and that is because Joe Flacco is going to get the bulk of the work in these joint practices with the Panthers. We will get a good indication of how the Browns look both offensively and defensively from these practices, more so than in the game.
This is the first time rookie projected starters like defensive tackle Mason Graham and linebacker Carson Schwesinger will get to go against a player with a different helmet on than their own at the NFL level. The Panthers also boast a first round wide receiver for Denzel Ward and company to lock up, as well as two Day 2 pass rushers for Dawand Jones to prove his worth against.

The Browns are going to hold a few players out of practice against the Panthers. Linebacker Mohamoud Diabate, running back Pierre Strong Jr., and offensive guard Zak Zinter will not participate in Wednesday's practice. Cornerback Greg Newsome II and defensive lineman Sam Kamara will be limited for the Browns.
Rain falls as Browns and Panthers get set for battle
The weather is fighting the Browns and Panthers as they get set to go head-to-head in this joint practice. Both Carolina and Cleveland beat reporters have stated that the rain is holding off, however, as the two sides get set to start practice at 10am ET.
Browns HC Kevin Stefanski speaks to the media
Speaking to the media prior to practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski has stated that only two quarterbacks will play on Friday night: Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Huntley. The head coach has stated that "by and large" most starters will not play in the preseason opener as they get their work in against the Panthers in these two joint practices.

NFL training camp: Joint practice schedule for 2025 preseason
Joint practices are back during NFL training camp in the 2025 preseason. This year, 28 of the league's 32 teams will participate in at least one joint practice during their respective training camps throughout August and before the start of the regular season. Only the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints will not participate in a joint practice this year. These practices will be sprinkled in with standard preseason practices and in addition to the three weeks of preseason games that every team will play. Each team is permitted up to four joint practice sessions according to the NFL and NFL Players Association's collective bargaining agreement to shake up the looks the players and coaches are getting before the season begins in earnest. View more Video Transcript I got to get my first point of the show off my chest, and that comes in the form of Cam Hayward wanting to get paid. Look, Papa wants a brand new bag and he's gonna go out and get it. In fact, the holdout is going to continue, and now he has spoken to the world about it and this is important. Look, I understand he's 36 years old, 36 years old. He signed a two-year deal for $29 million, which was the extension back in September of '24, which puts his contract through '26. So if you're a Steelers fan, you're sitting there. Say, hey, you just did a new deal, but what he's really asking for here is a conversion of money. It sounds like what he wants is to take a roster bonus that is guaranteed later and turn it into money he can have right now. That's not unprecedented. That's happened in the past, frankly, at his age, he's looking around and saying, hey, y'all didn't bet on me. I bet on myself on this deal, and I told you when I signed it that I'd be coming back if I played at an All-Pro level, which, by the way, he did. So if you're Cam Hayward, nearly looking around at 36 years old, realizing you have a limited amount of time that you can play in this league left in front of you, you're gonna go out and get yours while you can get yours. This doesn't surprise me at all. The surprising part about this to me is that the Steelers haven't just figured it out. There is no world where their defense is better without Cam Hayward. There's no world at this point where they can, they can go out and have the season they want to have if he chooses simply to not play. And we have to understand more and more as much as we always say players won't just walk away. I don't know. I know that it's rare for a 36-year-old that's already made this much money to be sitting here and saying, no, I'm not gonna do this. In this rare moment, I wonder, will Cam Hayward be the one that breaks through. These, these conversations about money are not new. Everybody's having them. Everybody's yelling about these holdouts this year, particularly. But Cam, Cam feels a little different. So all eyes are gonna be on Steelers camp to figure out what they're gonna do to keep Cam Hayward is happy. Close

Thunder headlining NBA's opening night, Christmas schedule for this season
NEW YORK (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder felt slighted last season when they were left off the NBA's Christmas schedule. That won't be an issue this year. MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the NBA champion Thunder will be working at home for Christmas this season, playing host to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs as part of the league's annual Dec. 25 quintupleheader. The other Christmas games, released by the NBA on Tuesday: Cleveland at New York, Houston at LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and Dallas visiting Golden State, and Minnesota playing at Denver. Some NBA Cup games are scheduled to be released Wednesday and the full schedule — 80 of the 82 games for all teams — is to be released on Thursday. The remaining two games for each club will be filled in December based on how teams fare in the NBA Cup. 'They make the schedule. We play it,' Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said last season, when asked about his club not being picked for the Dec. 25 lineup. 'Our players, I know, would have liked to play on Christmas because that's such a staple day in the NBA season. But we can't control that.' Well, they sort of did control their Christmas scheduling fate this season. The NBA champions typically get invited to play on Christmas the following season; Oklahoma City beat Indiana in a seven-game NBA Finals last season. The Eastern Conference champion Pacers are among the Christmas snubs this year, after losing Tyrese Haliburton to an Achilles tear that will sideline him for the entirety of this season and seeing Myles Turner opt to sign with Milwaukee in free agency. The Knicks will be playing their 58th Christmas game, extending their NBA record. The first Christmas game in league history was at Madison Square Garden in 1947. Boston, Philadelphia and Phoenix played on Christmas last season and didn't make the Dec. 25 cut this season, replaced by Cleveland (which was the East's No. 1 seed), Houston (which landed Kevin Durant in an offseason blockbuster from the Suns) and the Thunder. Cleveland and the Thunder are playing on Christmas for the first time since 2018. The Rockets have a Christmas game for the first time since 2019. James, if he plays on the holiday, will be making his 20th Christmas appearance in his record 23 NBA season. Only 12 NBA franchises have 20 Christmas games, and James could soon have that many as a player. And it'll be a big NBA holiday in Texas: All three of the state's teams are playing on Christmas for the first time. Opening night NBC's return to the NBA broadcast world officially starts with opening night on Oct. 21, when the Thunder will receive their championship rings before playing host to Durant and the Rockets in the first game of the season. That will be followed by Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Golden State taking on James, Luka Doncic and the Lakers in the second game of the NBC doubleheader. Those are the only two games on opening night. MLK Day Peacock and NBC will have four games on Jan. 19, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The matchups: Milwaukee at Atlanta on Peacock at 1 p.m. Eastern, followed by three games on NBC: Oklahoma City at Cleveland at 2:30 p.m. Eastern, Dallas at New York at 5 p.m. Eastern and Boston at Detroit at 8 p.m. Eastern.
