India's GDP to grow at 6.5 pc in 2025, robust 6.7 pc in 2026: ADB
When it comes to inflation, the country is likely to clock 3.8 per cent inflation this year, followed by 4.0 per cent in 2026 -- well within the reach of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) projections, ADB said in a statement.
In India, falling food inflation also helps contain headline inflation. Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation slid to 2.1 per cent in June, the lowest in 77 months, as food inflation turned negative.
India's real GDP growth is projected to grow in a range of 6.4-6.7 per cent this fiscal, reinforcing the country's position as the fastest-growing major economy in the world, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank lowered its growth forecasts for economies in developing Asia and the Pacific this year and next year. The downgrades are driven by expectations of reduced exports amid higher US tariffs and global trade uncertainty, as well as weaker domestic demand.
ADB forecasts the region's economies will grow by 4.7 per cent this year, a 0.2 percentage point decline from the projection issued in April. The forecast for next year has been lowered to 4.6 per cent from 4.7 per cent, according to Asian Development Outlook (ADO) July 2025.
Prospects for developing Asia and the Pacific could be dented further by an escalation of US tariffs and trade tensions.
Other risks include conflicts and geopolitical tensions that could disrupt global supply chains and raise energy prices, and a worse-than-expected deterioration in the property market of the People's Republic of China (PRC).
'Asia and the Pacific have weathered an increasingly challenging external environment this year. But the economic outlook has weakened amid intensifying risks and global uncertainty,' said ADB Chief Economist Albert Park.
'Economies in the region should continue strengthening their fundamentals and promoting open trade and regional integration to support investment, employment, and growth,' Part mentioned.
Growth projections for the PRC, the region's largest economy, are maintained at 4.7 per cent this year and 4.3 per cent next year. Economies in Southeast Asia will likely be hardest hit by worsened trade conditions and uncertainty. ADB now predicts the subregion's economies will grow 4.2 per cent this year and 4.3 per cent next year, down roughly half a percentage point from April forecasts for each year.

Business confidence among MSMEs improved in Q1 FY26: Sidbi survey
Business confidence among micro, small, and medium enterprises improved in the April-June quarter, backed by steady domestic demand and a supportive financial environment, according to the latest MSME Outlook Survey released by SIDBI on Wednesday. The Composite MSME Business Confidence Index (M-BCI) rose to 63.75 during the quarter under review from 60.82 in the previous quarter. A value above 50 suggests positive sentiment. Manufacturing and trading MSMEs drove the gains, while the services sector remained stable with a marginal decline, it showed. The MSME Business Expectations Index (M-BEI), reflecting the outlook for upcoming quarters, stood at 62.19 for July-September and 67.88 for the first quarter of the next fiscal, suggesting sustained optimism despite headwinds like global tariffs and trade volatility. A total of 88 per cent of respondents reported improved access to finance, up from 79 per cent in the previous round, the survey said. The report also indicated that fewer MSMEs experienced a rise in borrowing costs, indicating early signs of transmission from the Reserve Bank of India's cumulative 100 basis point repo rate cut since February 2025 Over half the respondents reported an increase in sales and profitability, while expectations for the next four quarters remain bullish. Notably, profit margins improved despite lingering cost pressures, it said. Among the other key findings, the survey found, about 21 per cent of manufacturing and 20 per cent of services sector MSMEs operated at above-normal capacity, up from 1214 per cent previously. Exporters flagged concerns over tariff-related uncertainties, with 40 per cent indicating an adverse impact. The findings are based on a survey of 1,200 MSMEs across 15 states and 45 districts, conducted by SIDBI's Economic Research and Data Analysis Vertical in partnership with the Academy of Management Studies, Lucknow.

Karnala Bank scam: ED restitutes assets worth ₹386 crore to aid depositors
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has restituted immovable properties worth Rs 386 crore to the Competent Authority under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act for the benefit of depositors of the defunct Karnala Nagari Sahakari Bank Ltd, Panvel. According to the ED, the assets, located across Raigad district in Maharashtra, were provisionally attached under Section 5 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following investigations into a Rs 560 crore fraud. The scam involved the bank's former chairman, Vivekanand Shankar Patil, who, along with other officials, allegedly created 63 bogus loan accounts using forged documents to siphon off funds into entities controlled by him and his relatives. The ED initiated its probe based on an FIR registered by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), CID Pune, on February 17, 2020. The PMLA chargesheet accuses the accused of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and cheating in violation of Reserve Bank of India norms. The immovable properties were attached through two orders issued on August 17, 2021, and October 12, 2023. A prosecution complaint was also filed before the Special PMLA Court on August 12, 2021, and the trial is currently underway. In a major relief to depositors, the PMLA Special Court in Mumbai passed an order on July 22, 2025, allowing the release and auction of the attached properties — including the Karnala Sports Academy in Panvel and land at Posari, Raigad. The restitution application was filed by the liquidator appointed by the Reserve Bank of India under Section 8(8) of PMLA, to which the ED consented. Over five lakh depositors had placed their hard-earned savings — totalling Rs 553 crore — in the bank before the fraud came to light. The ED's action is aimed at enabling partial recovery for affected depositors. In a statement, the ED said it expedited the process in view of the scale of public loss and in the larger interest of depositors.
