I test audio gear for a living — 5 secret Spotify features everyone needs to know
But did you know there are loads of features that you might not have known about? We've found some fun, intuitive and super useful Spotify features that you might not have known where hidden away in your music app of choice. We've even given them a fun score out of five. From the return of an old favorite to useful audio quality features, let's dive in.
When I was kid, my mom would hand me her phone in waiting rooms so that I didn't cause a scene. I was a proto-iPad kid, as it were. The only thing on there was snake — and I played it for hours. Now you can do the same with your Spotify playlists thanks to this fun little hidden feature.
It's easy to find — head to the three dots burger menu in a playlist, and select the 'eat this playlist' menu option. The game sees you consume the songs in the playlist as a snake, using your finger to guide the snake around the screen. Hours of fun — although we did note you've got to drag your finger pretty hard on the screen for it to work.
Gaze into thy crystal ball, o seer, and tell me what thy eyes see in my musical future... S Club 7? Yeah, alright, go on then.
Song Psychic is loads of fun. Go to the spotify.com/songpsychic website from your mobile device, and follow the prompts about what you're going to have for lunch and the like. From there Song Psychic will recommend some songs that you can listen to, or even add to your playlists.
Another fun feature that you might not know about!
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
Playlists getting a bit boring? Spice up your life with smart shuffle the next time you go to listen to a playlist. Hit the shuffle button a couple of times and you'll spot the logo in it's place — you're good to go.
From there smart shuffle will add in tracks that it thinks fit the vibe of your playlist to help you discover new music. You can add the tracks to the playlist if you like them, making that 60 hour party playlist even longer than it was before.
It's fun, but it's no snake — this one is more useful than fun
Your Taste Profile tells everyone that finds your Spotify profile the kinds of music that you listen to. But what if you listen to music that doesn't fit the image you're trying to portray? Can't have that dark, brooding persona you've had brewing for years be derailed by a few listens of the BackStreet Boys. Have no fear — you can hide artists from your tase profile.
Find the three dots menu for a playlist, track, artist or album and select the "exclude from your taste profile option. Job done, and your carefully curate social image has been protected from the influence of 90s boy band pop.
Spotify is never going to sound as good as the likes of Qobuz or Tidal, but there are ways to make it sound better at the cost of mobile data. To up the track quality, head to the settings menu and find the audio quality drop down. From there, select between the options. Very high will sound best but use the most data, while low will sound the worst but save your data.
Then there are the EQ settings. In the same settings menu, find the 'playback' settings. from there you'll find options to crossfade songs, Automix them for seamless transition, and then the EQ itself. You can play with it to your hearts content no matter the best earbuds you've got in your ears, which is nice.
You can use this feature on both desktop and mobile, their locations in the settings menu are the same in both.

For the first time in the US, Spotify is letting your family get access to this feature
Tech Team / Android Authority TL;DR Spotify is expanding its Audiobooks Plus plans to users in the US. Audiobooks Plus is an add-on that grants 15 additional hours of audiobook listening per month. Audiobooks Plus for Plan Members allows other members of your Premium Family or Duo plan to access 15 hours of listening. Through Spotify Premium, you have access to 15 hours of audiobook listening per month. While this is plenty of time for most people, it isn't enough for some to satiate their listening habits. For the audiobook listeners who love to binge and their equally voracious family members, Spotify is rolling out some add-ons that you may be interested in. Back in July, Spotify announced the launch of two add-ons for Premium members: Audiobooks Plus and Audiobooks Plus for Plan Members. However, these add-ons were initially only available to users in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. The streaming platform is now expanding access to these add-ons by bringing the US into the fold, starting today. For a quick refresher, Audiobooks Plus allows Individual, Family, or Duo account managers to tack on an additional 15 hours of listening time per month. Premium users already had the ability to purchase extra time, as needed, but this add-on provides recurring access to 15 additional hours. Meanwhile, Audiobooks Plus for Plan Members allows the other members on your Family or Duo plan to access 15 hours of monthly audiobook listening. This is the first time other members on a plan who aren't the cardholder will be able to access audiobooks. The rollout of these add-ons in the US arrives shortly after the company announced price changes to Premium subscriptions. In a blog post, Spotify revealed that the price would go up from €10,99 to €11,99. While the US was spared from the price hike, it hit multiple markets across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific. Follow

Jim Cramer Questions Spotify's Latest Numbers
Spotify Technology S.A. (NYSE:SPOT) is one of the stocks that Jim Cramer spoke about. A caller asked if the stock is a buy or hold given that the economy seems to be faltering. In response, Cramer said: 'I was so mystified by Spotify. That was a really not great number. I don't get it. I don't know what happened. I can't own the stock until I figure out what the heck happened.' Photo by Norbert Buduczki on Unsplash Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) provides audio streaming services through subscription and ad-supported models, providing access to a vast catalog of music and podcasts. Cramer suggested buying the stock during a June episode: 'My confidence in subscription model extends to Spotify. This incredible company dominates the podcast business and the music business, and of course, the new high list. It's roaring right now, but it does have periodic moments of underperformance, and that's when you gotta snap it up [buy, buy, buy].' Spotify expands audiobooks access to family plan members in the US for the first time
Spotify is expanding access to its audiobooks to more U.S. subscribers. The company on Tuesday announced the launch of its $11.99 per month Audiobooks+ plan in the market, which allows subscribers or their household members on a Family or Duo plan to add 15 hours of audiobook listening during the month on top of the base plan. Though Spotify launched its audiobooks service in the U.S. back in 2022, household members on Duo and Family plans have long been left out. The offering makes audiobooks available to household members for the first time in the U.S. market. Through Spotify Premium, subscribers already have access to 15 hours of audiobook listening per month and can buy additional hours to top off that, as needed. However, the Audiobooks+ plan gives subscribers the option to add on recurring access to 15 additional hours every month, on top of the Premium plan's existing monthly allotment. While that may be overkill for any but the more voracious audiobook listeners, the U.S. rollout of Audiobooks+ also means that other members on a subscription plan besides the cardholder can now also access Spotify's audiobooks catalog for the first time. This is made possible through the add-on called 'Audiobooks+ for Plan Members.' With the launch, the U.S. joins a handful of other markets with access to Audiobooks+, including Ireland, Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. The announcement of the plan's expansion to the U.S. comes shortly after a tough quarter for the streaming giant, where it missed expectations and reported weak guidance. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek pointed to a weaker ads business as the cause. (Spotify's ads chief had just left for DoorDash, media outlets reported ahead of earnings.) Despite the loss, one bright spot for the company in the quarter was its user growth. Active users grew 11% to 696 million, and paid subscribers grew 12% to 276 million in during the second quarter. The goal with the new Audiobooks+ plan is to extract more money from those existing customers. In December, publisher HarperCollins teased a solution for the problem with household members' inability to access audiobooks. HarperCollins CEO Brian Murray said at the time that Spotify was working to adjust a 'technical problem' with family plans that limited audiobook streaming only to the family plan's credit card holder. Last month, Spotify made good on that promise when it expanded audiobook access to plan members for the first time with the launch of Audibooks+ in several non-U.S. markets. Spotify doesn't share how many of its Premium subscribers stream audiobooks in addition to music or podcasts, but notes that audiobook listening hours are up more than 35% year-over-year in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. Notably, that's before these add-on plans became available. The news of the new subscription follows Spotify's announcement on Monday that its subscription prices are increasing from €10,99 to €11,99 across markets in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
