For the first time in the US, Spotify is letting your family get access to this feature
TL;DR Spotify is expanding its Audiobooks Plus plans to users in the US.
Audiobooks Plus is an add-on that grants 15 additional hours of audiobook listening per month.
Audiobooks Plus for Plan Members allows other members of your Premium Family or Duo plan to access 15 hours of listening.
Through Spotify Premium, you have access to 15 hours of audiobook listening per month. While this is plenty of time for most people, it isn't enough for some to satiate their listening habits. For the audiobook listeners who love to binge and their equally voracious family members, Spotify is rolling out some add-ons that you may be interested in.
Back in July, Spotify announced the launch of two add-ons for Premium members: Audiobooks Plus and Audiobooks Plus for Plan Members. However, these add-ons were initially only available to users in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. The streaming platform is now expanding access to these add-ons by bringing the US into the fold, starting today.
For a quick refresher, Audiobooks Plus allows Individual, Family, or Duo account managers to tack on an additional 15 hours of listening time per month. Premium users already had the ability to purchase extra time, as needed, but this add-on provides recurring access to 15 additional hours. Meanwhile, Audiobooks Plus for Plan Members allows the other members on your Family or Duo plan to access 15 hours of monthly audiobook listening. This is the first time other members on a plan who aren't the cardholder will be able to access audiobooks.
The rollout of these add-ons in the US arrives shortly after the company announced price changes to Premium subscriptions. In a blog post, Spotify revealed that the price would go up from €10,99 to €11,99. While the US was spared from the price hike, it hit multiple markets across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific.

Danone strikes Lifeway NDA to weigh-up takeover move
Danone has signed an NDA with Lifeway Foods to allow the French giant to weigh up whether to make another bid for the US kefir business. Last year, Lifeway turned down two takeover offers from Danone, one of the company's largest shareholders. Relations between the two companies since then have been less than smooth, with Danone launching a lawsuit claiming Lifeway breached a shareholder agreement. Lifeway has said Danone's offers amount to a 'hostile takeover'. Amid the tension between Danone and Lifeway, a long-running family feud has festered at the US firm between chair and CEO Julie Smolyansky, and her mother and brother, Ludmila and Edward Smolyansky, the company's largest shareholders. In an SEC filing on 1 August, it emerged 'representatives' of Danone and Lifeway started talks to 'reset' the relationship and hold discussions over a 'potential acquisition'. The NDA was signed on 1 August 'in order to facilitate Danone's further review of a potential acquisition transaction', the SEC filing read. The terms of the NDA 'restrict the ability of Danone' to publicly make further acquisition proposals, attempt to remove anyone from Lifeway's board or participate in any consent solicitation not recommended by the US company. That includes the pending consent solicitation of Edward Smolyansky to replace the entire Lifeway board. Last month, Edward and Ludmila, who own around 23.2% of Lifeway's shares, said they had filed a 'definitive consent statement' to the SEC to overhaul Lifeway's board, including replacing CEO Julie, with new nominees 'focused on restoring accountability, transparency and long-term shareholder value'. Lifeway called the move 'legally deficient'. The NDA terms expire on a 'standstill expiration date' of 15 September – although it can be extended by a week if the companies are in 'good faith discussions'. The filing added: 'If a definitive acquisition agreement has not been executed by the standstill expiration date, Danone presently intends to consent with respect to all of the shares of common stock it owns in favour of Edward Smolyansky's proposals set forth in his pending consent solicitation statement to replace the entire Lifeway board of directors.' Danone holds around 22.7% of Lifeway. "Danone strikes Lifeway NDA to weigh-up takeover move" was originally created and published by Just Food, a GlobalData owned brand. How the UK's huge debt pile compares with other nations
UK chancellor Rachel Reeves remains under intense pressure to tackle mounting government debt. On Wednesday, UK think tank National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) released a report forecasting that Reeves was on course to miss her borrowing targets by £41.2bn. The think tank also posed a solution: Reeves should raise taxes immediately. It recommended "a moderate but sustained increase", including reform of the council tax system to make up the shortfall. Getting debt on a downward path has been flagged as a priority for the government. In July, Darren Jones, chief secretary to the Treasury, said: 'We are committed to tough fiscal rules, so we do not borrow for day-to-day spending and get debt down as a share of our economy." Read more: UK taxpayers 'subsidising' S&P 500, says LSEG boss The recent sharp selloff in government bonds – known as gilts in the UK – has pushed yields higher, further adding to the debt pile. The UK is far from alone in its concerns about growing debt, though, particularly in the wake of US president Donald Trump's tariff threats. Data compiled by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) showed the debt-to-GDP ratio – a signifier that the country will face difficulties servicing its debt – of the UK and other leading economies. The UK's ratio stands at 104%, according to the data. Japan tops the IMF's list by a long margin, with a debt-to-GDP ratio of 235% – more than double that of the UK. Japan has traditionally relied on longer-dated bond yields to navigate its huge debt. However, buyers have recently begun to turn their backs on the Japanese bond market, sparking concern for the country's long-term financial outlook. Worries about the country's mounting debt have been growing throughout 2025. Trump's tax-cut bill, which was signed into law in July, has heightened these concerns. PE firm Hoffmann Family of Companies buys US chocolate maker Elmer
Private-equity investor Hoffmann Family of Companies has taken a controlling interest in US-based Elmer Chocolate. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition will see Louisiana-headquartered Elmer continue under the leadership of third-generation family members Rob and Michael Nelson, who will retain "partial" ownership and remain actively involved in the company's operations. In a statement, the US-based investment company said the 'strategic partnership aims to expand Elmer's year-round offerings'. Elmer is known for its Celebrate with Chocolate Valentine's Day assorted chocolate hearts, with over 40 million sold annually across North America. Its Gold Brick Eggs and Heavenly Hash Eggs are among the Easter candy brands sold in the New Orleans market. Rob Nelson, who is the president and CEO of Elmer, said: 'By expanding operations and broadening our portfolio beyond seasonal confections, we are positioning the company for year-round customer engagement, while remaining true to the heritage and craftsmanship that have defined our brand for 170 years.' According to its website, today, Elmer holds the position of the second-largest heart box chocolate manufacturer in the US. Hoffmann Family of Companies co-CEO Geoff Hoffmann said: 'We are honoured to partner with the Nelson family and build on Elmer Chocolate's remarkable legacy. Rob and Michael are exceptional leaders, and their commitment to quality and tradition aligns perfectly with our values. 'Elmer is a storied brand with tremendous potential, and we are excited to help shape its next chapter of growth and innovation.' Elmer's origins date back to 1855 when New Orleans pastry chef Christopher Henry Miller founded the business. It later evolved into Elmer Candy Corp. when Miller's son-in-law, Augustus Elmer, and his descendants joined. In the 1960s, Roy Nelson acquired the confectionery arm, steering the company towards seasonal chocolates. By 1970, Roy Nelson and his son Allan consolidated manufacturing in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. In 2016, Elmer expanded the facility by adding 70,000 square feet, bringing the total facility footprint to over 400,000 square feet.
