Former Nebraska offensive lineman named best-ever No. 74 draft pick in NFL history

USA Today16-07-2025
A former Nebraska offensive lineman has been named the greatest draft pick at his draft slot. ESPN's Ben Solak selected Will Shields as the greatest No. 74 draft pick in NFL history.
Shields played for the Cornhuskers from 1989 to 1992. He was a two-time All-American and the 1992 Outland Trophy winner. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 74 pick in the 1993 NFL draft.
He would play for the Chiefs for his entire career. During that time, he was a seven-time All-Pro and a 12-time Pro Bowler. He was also the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2003.
"But Shields, who never missed a game in 14 years for the Chiefs, cleared them both -- 224 games, 223 starts, never inactive. He made every Pro Bowl from 1995 to 2006."
Shields is one of three Hall of Famers drafted with the No. 74 pick. Running back Curtis Martin and tight end Charlie Sanders were also taken with the No. 74 pick.

Titans' Treylon Burks suffers right shoulder injury during diving catch

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks hurt his right shoulder on a diving catch out of bounds Saturday in a practice at Nissan Stadium. He got up and immediately grabbed at his right shoulder. Burks then walked to the locker room with training staff. Coach Brian Callahan said in a statement that Burks was being evaluated for a shoulder injury: 'We'll have an update on his status at the appropriate time.' NFL Network reported that Burks broke his collarbone and will have more tests. Burks was the Titans' first-round draft pick at No. 18 overall in 2022, a selection acquired by trading Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown to Philadelphia. Burks has been injured more often than not in his first three seasons out of Arkansas. The 6-foot-2, 222-pound receiver has started 17 of 27 games played out of a possible 51 since being drafted. Burks has caught 53 of 94 passes thrown to him for 699 yards and one touchdown catch. Burks was knocked out on that TD catch in Philadelphia in 2022 and missed the next two games. He was carted off the field with a concussion in 2023 after trying to make a leaping catch late in a blowout loss to Pittsburgh. He started training camp healthy and in good shape after being placed on injured reserve last October with a partially torn ACL. ___ AP NFL: Teresa M. Walker, The Associated Press

Treylon Burks injury update: Titans WR fractures collarbone, per reports

Another member of the Tennessee Titans' offense has been injured before the start of preseason action. Wide receiver and former first-round pick Treylon Burks suffered a fractured collarbone during practice on Saturday, according to multiple reports. The news comes less than a week after the Titans announced quarterback Will Levis will miss the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wrote on social media that Burks suffered the injury while making "a sick, diving catch on the sidelines." Burks was set to enter his fourth season with Tennessee in 2025. He missed the final 12 games of last year after tearing his ACL during practice before a Week 7 game with the Buffalo Bills. Now, Burks will miss more time with another injury suffered during a practice session. TItans WR Treylon Burks reportedly suffers fractured collarbone, expected to miss start of regular season

Tennessee Titans wide receiver reportedly suffered a fractured collarbone during Saturday's practice, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The 25-year-old wide receiver is undergoing further testing and a definitive timeline is unknown. Burks is expected to miss at least the start of the regular season. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] "Treylon Burks is being evaluated right now for a shoulder injury," Titans head coach Brian Callahan said after practice. "We'll have an update on his status at the appropriate time" Per The Tennessean's Alex Daugherty, Burks suffered the injury after making a diving catch along the sideline from a Cam Ward pass. After he landed, Burks grabbed his shoulder and went to the locker room after a discussion with athletic trainers. Ramel Keyton has been signed following Burks' injury. Keyton played eight games last season with the Las Vegas Raiders Injury-filled start to NFL career for Burks The injury is a tough blow for Burks, who played only five games last season after undergoing season-ending surgery to repair his ACL. The 18th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft has had a difficult start to his NFL career. Burks, who had his fifth-year option declined in April, missed five games in each of his first two seasons and then suffered the ACL injury in 2024. He has one career receiving touchdown and just 53 total receptions in three seasons. Burks' absence takes away a passing option for Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL draft. New Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi made changes to the team's receiver room by signing Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett in free agency, drafting Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor and letting Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Tyler Boyd walk. The Titans ranked 25th in the NFL in total receptions (336) and receiving yards (3,621) last season. The Titans begin the 2025 season at the Denver Broncos.
