What to know for Thursday
▪ Bradyn Swinson appreciates his rookie responsibilities that have kept him busy in the grocery store.
'I got big boys in my room, like Keion [White] and [K'Lavon Chaisson], so they always want snacks,' said Swinson, who has been tasked with keeping the snack table stocked.
'But they're eating 'old-head snacks' like Nilla Wafers and stuff. Like, what are we doing?
'I got some Nilla Wafers. I got some Gushers — those are really for me. Don't tell them I said that,' he added with a small smile. 'I got some fruit snacks. They got sunflower seeds. Let me see what else … I got some Chex Mix, too.

'And then Harold [Landry] … Harold runs through Essentia water like he's breathing oxygen. I don't understand it. I probably refilled him about six or seven times. But you know? I'm enjoying doing it. It's a blessing to be here. So I'll do whatever they tell me to do.'
▪ Center Garrett Bradbury didn't practice Wednesday
With Bradbury out, the Patriots turned to Ben Brown as the starting center and Cole Strange as the backup. Rookie Jared Wilson, who had been taking snaps at center and left guard, settled in as the starting left guard.
▪ Cornerback Carlton Davis again did not practice, though Vrabel indicated his repeated absences could be part of load management.
'Just making sure that he's ready to go,' Vrabel said. 'It's a long season, veteran player.'
Linebacker Jahlani Tavai missed his third straight day, while rookie defensive tackle Joshua Farmer missed his second. Wide receiver Mack Holins and tackle Vederian Lowe remained sidelined on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Linebacker Harold Landry, too, did not practice but had a veteran's rest day, according to Vrabel.
▪ Stefon Diggs had the highlight of the day Wednesday. The 31-year-old made an impressive connection with quarterback Drake Maye over the middle. Diggs caught the pass in stride and showed nice acceleration, posting some good yards after the catch. In 11-on-11 work, Diggs had 13 snaps and finished with three catches on three targets.

We hit 28 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now

We've reached 28 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots. That's right, just three more Sundays without football. With our countdown at 28 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction. No. 28 Who's wearing it now: RB Sincere McCormick The former undrafted free agent out of UT San Antonio spent the last two years with the Raiders, but finally got signed to the active roster. After two games elevated from the practice squad, he was signed on December 3 to the roster. In those three games, he ran for 175 yards averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Then he went down with injury and missed the final three games of the season. Now he's back in the mix trying to earn a spot on this team behind starter Ashton Jeanty and veteran Raheem Mostert. Who wore it best: RB Josh Jacobs Last season the Raiders had the worst rushing team in the league. But a few years ago they had the league's rushing champ. Jacobs ran for a league-leading 1653 yards with 12 touchdowns and added another 400 yards receiving to surpass 2000 yards from scrimmage. Becoming just the third ever Raiders back to lead the league in rushing along with Marcus Allen (1985) and Clem Daniels (1963). And his season rushing total is second only to Allen's (1759). Jacobs's 4740 career Raiders rushing yards is fifth in franchise history. His 40 career rushing touchdowns is third.

Patriots former first-round pick could be traded before Week 1

We made it, Patriot fans. On Friday, the Patriots are playing in their first preseason game of the 2025 season. It's going to be exciting to see the team finally on the field in a competitive setting once again, and there are a ton of players who need to perform well to make their case for a roster spot. Most of the major roster shuffling is probably done by now, but the team does still have to cut around 40 players before the end of the month. One of the players firmly on the roster bubble is former first-round pick Cole Strange. Strange was a key starter for the Patriots at one time, but the Chattanooga product majorly struggled last season. Then, this summer, third-round rookie Jared Wilson appears to have taken over Strange's former starting spot at left guard. As a result, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes that Strong could be traded before the regular season. Regarding this potential, Knox offered the following: While the 27-year-old has started 29 games for the Patriots, he missed most of last season with a knee injury, had his fifth-year option declined and appears to be on the roster bubble. 'He's gone from the starter at left guard to third string at center, Greg A. Bedard of Boston Sports Journal wrote. 'There's still time for him to recover, but it needs to happen soon.' With Caeden Wallace, free-agent addition Garrett Bradbury and rookie Jared Wilson all pushing for playing time along the interior, now might be a good time to pivot off of Strange. He isn't likely to bring much in return via a trade, but his starting experience and draft pedigree might generate some interest. As Knox mentioned, Strange went from starting left guard to third-string center. The team also declined Strange's fifth-year option and he's now set to be a free agent after the 2025 season. As a former first-round pick, it's possible that another team could be intrigued enough by Strange to offer some draft capital in a trade. Strange is versatile enough to play either guard spot or center, as well, and you can never have too much depth on the offensive line. Will Patriots play starters in preseason opener? Mike Vrabel answers

It's finally time for the Patriots to play a game again! After a week of intense joint practices with the Commanders, the two teams will kick off the preseason on Friday night in Foxboro. These days, even with an abbreviated preseason, you never know if the starters will play, or even if they do, for how long. Many fans of the Patriots are hoping to see at least SOME action from the starters in the opener, and if you are one of those fans, you're in luck. Earlier this week, Mike Vrabel was asked about whether or not the starters would be on the field Friday night. 'I would say most everybody that's healthy should expect to play in the game. How long they'll play, I don't know,' said Vrabel, via Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller. The coach also explained that the team views this game as 'an extension of practice.' That means that fans should expect to see Drake Maye, Stefon Diggs, and others, for at least one or two drives. Typically, coaches like to give the starters just a few plays before pulling them to avoid injuries before the season. You also want to see the backups because those are the guys competing for roster spots. There's no doubt guys like Maye and Diggs will be on the roster, but players like Ja'Lynn Polk, Cole Strange, and Marte Mapu are fighting for their lives. Meanwhile, the Patriots' opponent, the Commanders, will NOT play starters in the opener. That means the Patriots' defense doesn't have to worry about facing off against Jayden Daniels and the high-powered Commanders' offense. These teams will kick off from Gillette Stadium on Friday night at 7:30 PM EDT. After this, the Patriots will next head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in the second preseason game before closing out the preseason in New York against the Giants.
