UP to display industries, products at 5-day trade fair in September
The government will promote 12 industries at UP International Trade Show (UPITS) 2025: small businesses, agriculture and allied industries, energy, environment, health, education, electronics, defence, tourism, transport, electric vehicles, and finance. The third edition of UPITS 2025 is scheduled September 25 to 29 in Greater Noida.
"To propel the state's 'vocal for local' vision, the UPITS will promote exports and connect local producers with global buyers, and cement UP's position on the global investment map," said a senior government official.
Vietnam was UP's partner country last year when the five-day fair had buyers from 72 nations spanning Europe, Africa, North America, Latin America and Oceania.
As many as 35 UP government departments are planning the event this year. It will have 48 participants who will exhibit products and services of 12 sectors in a 50,000 sq metre space.
UP State Industrial Development Authority, Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority and UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority will participate in the fair.
"The prime focus will be on the MSME [micro, small and medium enterprises sector since it is a major job creator and contributes immensely to the industrial output and exports," said the official.
More than 30 per cent of the trade fair's exhibition space will be kept for MSMEs.
Products supported by geographical indication and One District One Product programmes will be showcased at UPITS 2025. Foods such as Agra's petha and Malihabad mangoes and artisan products like Moradabad brassware and Banarasi saris will be pitched for a global audience.

CM Sai embarks on 10-day tour to Japan & S Korea
Raipur: Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday embarked on his first foreign visit since taking office, setting out on a 10-day tour of Japan and South Korea to meet probable investors for the state. The state is particularly seeking investment in the electronics, automobile, and food processing sectors, Sai said before his departure. "In Japan and South Korea, there is significant progress in electronics, automobile, and food processing, while Chhattisgarh too has immense possibilities in these sectors. We are going there with our new industrial policy to invite industrialists to invest in the state," Sai said. In a post on X, Sai thanked his cabinet colleagues who saw him off at the Raipur airport. "With the new industrial policy, Chhattisgarh is rapidly becoming a centre of industrial development and investment. I am confident that this visit will open new opportunities for investment and employment generation in the state," he wrote. Ease of doing biz, lower costs to aid Raj's growth: Rathore at BS Samriddhi
Rajasthan's journey towards becoming a ₹30 trillion economy in the next three and a half years will be guided by the twin principles of ease of doing business and lowering the cost of doing business, said Col (retd) Rajyavardhan Rathore, the state's industry & commerce minister, in a fireside chat at the Business Standard Samriddhi event on Wednesday. Rathore, who earlier launched Business Standard 's Jaipur edition in Hindi and English at the event here, said that for ease of doing business the state had announced nine policies in key sectors. These include policies on export promotion, logistics, apparel, cluster development, One District One Product (ODOP), data centres, and a forthcoming policy on artificial intelligence. With the launch of the Jaipur edition, Business Standard is now published simultaneously across 14 cities in English and seven in Hindi. The minister, who holds five portfolios, including information technology & communications, and skill development & entrepreneurship, said that as part of its effort to reduce the cost of doing business, the state government had adopted a policy of direct land allotment instead of the previous system of auction. The fixing of price for such land, he said, was carried out transparently by a committee that determines rates based on factors like the plot's distance from a city. 'Ink an MoU (memorandum of understanding), go to the Riico (Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation) website, pick a plot, and we will allot it to you. The website has details of available plots in all the 419 Riico industrial parks,' he said. Rathore also spoke of the government's vision to build a land bank and an IT city near Delhi, on the lines of IT cities in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to ink free-trade agreements with different countries, and said the PM believes that India's market is its strength, while the previous government thought of it as its weakness. 'I would point to the India-EFTA (European Free Trade Association) trade pact. Under the free-trade agreement, for the first time, there is a binding commitment on the European nations to not only transfer to us technology but invest $100 billion. Similarly, we have an energy treaty with the United Arab Emirates and a trade pact with Singapore. The national government has created an environment of development within India,' Rathore said. On how Rajasthan is pulling investments, Rathore said in the Rising Rajasthan Summit, the state had not merely inked MoUs, but was handholding businesses as well. 'We are hiring consultants so that all the file movement is not done by entrepreneurs but by the government of Rajasthan. It is literally like a door-to-door service,' he said. The minister said that the state was pursuing the PM's mantra of reform, perform, and transform to the hilt. 'We are reforming, our government is performing and we are transforming Rajasthan from a ₹15 trillion economy to a ₹30 trillion economy in the next three and a half years,' he said. The minister said Rajasthan would play a big role in the PM's call for 'swadeshi' and 'aatmanirbharta'. He pointed out that there were as many as 56 minerals found in Rajasthan, and in some, such as zinc, the state is the largest producer. 'We have plenty of land. Our industrial corridor and expressway network is good,' Rathore said, adding that Rajasthan is a goldmine of possibilities. Later, the launch event was followed by two high-intensity panel discussions, attended by leading industrialists, bureaucrats and policymakers.

US tariffs have put UP industries in peril, says Akhilesh
1 2 Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday criticised the BJP govt for failing to implement measures to mitigate the impact of US-imposed tariffs on Indian goods. He claimed that Bhadohi's carpet industry, Moradabad's brassware sector and Kanpur's leather industry are experiencing a crisis and have been left to fend for themselves. The former UP CM said the BJP govt's much-touted One District One Product (ODOP) scheme should now be put to test to salvage industries in UP adversely affected by the US tariff. "The most important question today is that ever since the tariff was imposed, our carpet industry in Bhadohi, brassware industry in Moradabad and leather industry in Kanpur is facing a crisis. It is not only about them. People associated with export of other goods to US have also landed in a similar crisis. But there is no one to listen to their woes. They have been left to fend for themselves," he said. "Govt should have acted swiftly and drafted a scheme for industries that were set to feel the heat of the rise in US tariff, but nothing has been done. The exporters have been left in a lurch," said senior SP functionary Prof Sudhir Panwar. "These are the same industries that add to India's foreign exchange reserves with their exports and were now, when they are in crisis, they have been left to fend for themselves by the BJP govt," Panwar added. 'Train luggage rule will lead to corruption' Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Modi govt's proposed plan to regulate size and weight of luggage of train passengers and charge them extra for anything beyond the specified limit. He said the decision will be another chapter of govt corruption. "People travelling in AC class may not feel the pinch, but the poor and the middle class who travel in non-AC coaches will certainly bear the brunt of any such decision of the Indian Railway," he said, adding: "If govt has to bring in such regulation, it should be limited to those travelling in AC-I and AC-II classes.
