Hoover's 'absolutely brilliant' cordless vacuum is cheaper than Amazon and Shark with 56% off

Daily Record29-04-2025

Hoover has launched a new spring clean deal by slashing £140 off one of its top vacuum cleaners that's now more than half price. The HF9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner With Anti Hair Wrap can now be purchased for £109, down from its original price of £249, using the discount code POWERFUL . This marks a 56% reduction from the initial price and offers a saving of £60 compared to Amazon 's asking price (£169) and Shark's competing Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Vacuum (£169). Hoover says its HF9 is the 'ultimate home cleaning appliance' that boasts 'double the suction power' in comparison to some competitor brands. The device is engineered to handle both carpet and hard floors, with its brush bar capable of adjusting to different surfaces thanks to its Hard Floor and Carpet modes. This allows the brush bar to spin slower on delicate surfaces and faster on carpets to extract deeply embedded dirt, while the extra-powerful Turbo Boost setting provides up to 12 minutes of enhanced suction. READ MORE: Shoppers with thinning hair see 'significantly less loss' and 'stronger' strands using kit READ MORE: 'Perfect' ingredient to help weight loss by naturally suppressing your appetite The vacuum's durable battery can operate for 30 minutes continuously – sufficient to clean 120sqm – without losing suction and takes 3.5 hours to fully charge. Hoover is rivalling Shark's anti hair wrap and Dyson 's de-tangling with its own 'Anti-Twist' technology, which automatically removes hair from the brush bar during cleaning. The lightweight vacuum can also be easily converted to a handheld device, allowing easy cleaning of stairs, sofas or car interiors. Other standout features include LED lights in the brush head to illuminate any hard-to-see dirt, the freestanding 'Park and Go' feature and a five-year warranty on purchases made direct from Hoover. The deal is £140 cheaper than Dyson's 4.4-star rated V8 Advanced (£249.99) – said to be the 'most powerful V8 ever' – but this model boasts a slightly longer 40-minute run time. But the Hoover HF9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner With Anti Hair Wrap boasts a higher 4.6-star rating from 837 reviews – 773 of which are four or five stars. One satisfied shopper said: "Best vacuum I've ever had. Great suction, better than a Dyson or Shark. I have just bought one for my mother, and my sister received hers today, we all love it." Another said: "I cannot fault this. The design and quality of material is excellent compared to my Miele which cost twice as much. I especially like its height and anti hair wrap. Plus, it stands up alone between uses and whilst charging. Its suction is brilliant, easily switching between hard floors and carpet and its accessories are quality – really good on the sofas." A third thrilled buyer said: "Absolutely brilliant Hoover, picks up dog hair and the tiniest bit of fluff. It is reasonably quiet and doesn't scare my dogs like my last vacuum and the price was exceptional." The Hoover HF9, weighing in at 3.4kg, may not be to everyone's liking, as some users have found it too heavy. One less-impressed reviewer said: "Looks great, functions as described but too heavy for me to be lifting up stairs." Nonetheless, others have praised the vacuum as 'lightweight', 'easy to use' and 'efficient', while this five-star reviewer said: "Love my new Hoover, it's lighter, more powerful and more manoeuvrable than my old one. Also has a battery timer and light and stands up on its own. I have been hoovering more often than I used to as it's so easy to carry around the house." The Hoover HF9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner With Anti Hair Wrap is available for shoppers at £109 with the code POWERFUL.

The BBC has reported that the sprawling post-war site, which for the past 16 years has served as a distribution hub, will be torn down to make way for more than 400 new homes. Civil engineering firm Walters Group is reportedly purchasing the land, subject to planning approval expected later this year, and intends to begin demolition in 2026. ‌ The loss of the factory signals more than the end of a building, as it may signal the end of an era for lots of people. The American-owned company had first arrived in the late 1940s as part of a post-war drive to bring foreign investment to struggling British regions. The factory even dabbled in innovation as in 1985 it briefly assembled the Sinclair C5, a three-wheeled electric vehicle that became known for its commercial failure. In 1992, it again made headlines when their free flights promotion for people buying a product over £100 went wrong, leading to a costly legal battle due to the high demand it could not meet. ‌ Production at the factory ended in 2009 after the then-owners moved manufacturing to Turkey. In a statement shared with the BBC, Hoover has stated: "Our Merthyr Tydfil washing machine factory was more than just a production site. "It was a symbol of dedication, excellence and community, and we are grateful to everyone who was part of that achievement. We want to express our deepest thanks to every team member past and present, and to the broader Merthyr community. ‌ "You are, and always will be, a vital part of our history and identity. Your legacy is woven into every step forward we take, and your contributions will continue to inspire and define who we are. "We are committed to working closely with all affected employees and community leaders to provide support through this transition. "Thank you, Merthyr, for being an irreplaceable and unforgettable part of our journey." Article continues below

Former Volvo chief says individualism is holding Scotland back

"Rather than inspire new thinking, we have to some extent romanticised this," he told the Creating the Jobs of Tomorrow conference in Glasgow. "The constant recycling of these great achievements risks being akin to having a picture of Bonnie Prince Charlie on the side of a biscuit tin. "It is now time for the next chapter in Scottish innovation to be written," he added, noting that the means are available to develop a highly-skilled workforce that will dictate which countries fare best economically in the years to come. Read more: 'We need to educate young people not just in the technical tools and the business skills of tomorrow, but the basic building blocks of how to work effectively together to build a culture of shared prosperity," he said. "Individualism, digital nomads, scrolling as a form of entertainment [and] working from home has all torn the fabric in the cultural collaboration, and we need to amend this.' Originally a mechanical engineering apprentice at Tate & Lyle in Glasgow, Mr Rowan switched into the technology sector when he joined Digital Equipment Corporation in Ayr in 1986. He went on to hold chief operating officer roles at both BlackBerry and Dyson, and was chief executive of Dyson from 2017 to 2020. Despite all the current geopolitical turbulence and uncertainty, he said it remains his firm belief that "fantastic opportunities" lie ahead for companies and countries that find ways to invest in the key talents and technologies of the future. 'The combination of high computational silicon, artificial intelligence, low latency cloud connectivity and energy security will provide the foundations to accelerate growth and prosperity we have never seen before," Mr Rowan said. "I would go as far as to say that what happens in the next five years will define the industrial and the military landscape for the next 25 years.' Mr Rowan added that this constitutes a "potent cocktail" designed to Scotland's advantage that can enable a "new wave of prosperity for our country". 'To bring this vision alive, we need to be able to get our young talent to embrace these opportunities and engage in the journey, a journey that can create something long-lasting and future-proof for the next generation," he said, but added: "Many of our young people today are out of practice with what it takes to be successful on the global stage."
