EXCLUSIVE James Corden is set to return to America for exciting new project - as Gavin and Stacey star signs up for his latest role in New York's Broadway
The 46-year-old comedian and presenter is set to make his return to Broadway next summer.
He will star as Serge in a new production of ART, Yasmina Reza's comedy about friendship, ego and modern art.
The limited three-month run marks a much-anticipated return to the stage for Corden, who won a Tony Award for his performance in One Man, Two Guvnors in 2012.
American theatre director Scott Ellis is set to helm the production.
Mr Ellis's past credits include Pirates! (or, Gilbert and Sullivan Plunder'd), English, and A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical.
The role will mean extended time away from his family.
Corden who lives in the UK with his wife Julia Carey, 48, and their three children, Max, 13, Carey, 10, and Charlotte, 7, will spend several weeks in New York for rehearsals ahead of the official run.
A theatre insider told MailOnline: 'It's exciting to see James Corden return to the stage in ART - even if only for 90 minutes a night.
'While his recent turn in The Constituent at the Old Vic was somewhat underwhelming, this new production is sure to be one of Broadway's hottest tickets.'
ART, originally written in French and translated by Christopher Hampton, premiered in Paris in 1994 before transferring to London's West End and then Broadway, winning the Olivier, Tony, and Molière Awards for Best Play.
The story centres on three friends - Serge, Marc, and Yvan - whose relationships are tested when Serge buys an expensive, entirely white painting.
The play explores themes of taste, loyalty, and the fragile nature of male friendship.
The new Broadway revival marks the first major production of ART in over a decade.
The news comes as The Mail on Sunday revealed that Corden - who spent eight years in Los Angeles hosting The Late Late Show before relocating to the UK last year - is now said to be weighing up a run for Mayor of London.
The actor, who cemented himself as a household name playing Smithy in Gavin and Stacey, has been vocal about his political views but has always stopped shy of taking it further.
However, at the BAFTA television awards, Corden was introduced to the hosts of the Electoral Dysfunction podcast and revealed his latest ambitions to Sky News' political editor Beth Rigby, former Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman and former Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson.
An onlooker said: 'James told them he was a regular listener to their podcast and how much he enjoys the cut and thrust of politics.
'He clearly has a lot of respect for those who put themselves out there and run for office.
'And it was suggested that he should step into the political arena and stand in the future. There was talk that he should run for Mayor of London.'
The current mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, was first elected in 2016 and won a third term last year.

Travis Kelce skips Happy Gilmore 2 premiere as Adam Sandler sends him a message from New York
Travis Kelce was not at the 'Happy Gilmore 2' premiere on Monday night - though he earned massive praise from Adam Sandler nonetheless. The Chiefs star landed a role in the film as a hotel employee, with one scene giving him the chance to share the screen with Bad Bunny. And while Kelce skipped out on the premiere with Kansas City's training camp beginning on Tuesday, it's clear he made an impression on Sandler during the filming of the movie. 'They were both so confident and so funny. They're gonna go on and do whatever the hell they want,' Sandler told The Hollywood Reporter of Kelce and Bad Bunny. 'But I'd love to do something with them again, because I got very friendly with them, and I love them both.' Sandler also joked to Extra TV that he 'didn't want to bother' Kelce's pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift about a potential role in the film. 'Just let Taylor entertain the world like she does... she's done a lot for our planet.' Bad Bunny, meanwhile, teased a 'honey scene' with Kelce, which he called 'crazy' in an interview with Extra. Aside from the Puerto Rican musician, there were plenty more big names in attendance at the Lincoln Center in New York. Jimmy Fallon, John Cena, Margaret Qualley and Bennie Safdie (the latter two have cameos in the film) were all in attendance, as was influencer Alix Earle. From the sports world, Kelce's fellow football player Derrick Henry was in attendance too, and Sandler could be heard telling the bruising running back that the pair were 'doing a movie together' on the red carpet. Former Steelers star Ryan Clark was in attendance as well. Of course, there were plenty of names from the golf world as well, including Scottie Scheffler - fresh off of his win at The Open - Colin Morikawa, Fred Couples, Tony Finau, Bryson DeChambeau and John Daly. All will have cameo films in the movie - which will mark a second appearance in the 'Happy Gilmore' franchise for Couples. Kid Cudi and Sandler embraced on the red carpet as they posed for a photo together Justin Thomas and Jack Nicklaus also reportedly have roles in the film, though they were not in attendance on Monday night. Golf influencer Paige Spiranac also scored a cameo in the film and graced the red carpet on Monday. And rapper Kid Cudi appears in the movie, too, and smiled for a picture with Sandler on Monday. The film is a sequel to Sandler's 1996 comedy classic which follows an ex-hockey player turned golfer with anger issues. Despite the many newcomers in the film, fans will be pleased to see Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald reprise the roles of Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin respectively. The film will be released to Netflix on Friday.

Billy Joel opens up about brain disorder diagnosis after cancelling tour dates: ‘My balance sucks'
Billy Joel has opened up about his health, after cancelling his scheduled concerts mid-tour in May. At the time, the 76-year-old singer announced that he'd been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). Speaking to Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast this week, Joel said he felt 'good'. 'They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I'm feeling,' he said. 'I feel fine. My balance sucks. It's like being on a boat.' Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain's ventricles, typically affecting balance and gait, cognitive function and bladder control. It primarily affects people over the age of 60, according to the Hydrocephalus Support Association. In a statement to his Instagram account in May, Joel said his condition had been 'exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance'. He said he had cancelled the rest of his tour on medical advice, and was undergoing physical therapy. Speaking to Maher, the singer said: 'It's not fixed. It's still being worked on.' Joel said he doesn't know what led to him developing NPH. 'I thought it must be from drinking,' the Piano Man singer said, adding he doesn't drink any more. 'I used to – like a fish.' Joel hasn't rescheduled his concert dates. His interview with Maher focused on Billy Joel: And So It Goes, a two-part documentary premiering this week on HBO. Coming in at five hours, the documentary unpacks the Grammy award-winner's extraordinary five-decade career and catalogue of music, which includes the hits Piano Man, Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start the Fire and New York State of Mind.

Denise Richards seen without wedding ring as she steps out in LA after ex Aaron Phypers accused her of affair
Denise Richards was pictured for the first time since her estranged husband Aaron Phypers accused her of having an affair amid their ugly divorce. The 54-year-old actress brushed off the drama as she enjoyed lunch at Cross Creek in Malibu with her daughters Sami, 21, and Eloise, 13, but was notably missing her wedding ring. She even shared a lighthearted moment, snapping a photo of Sami and her dog on her phone. The Wild Things star — who returned to social media with heartbreaking message on Sunday — opted for a casual look, wearing a navy tank top tucked into light blue jeans. Richards completed the outfit with a wide-brim straw hat atop her head as well as a pair of sunglasses. Sami sported a white tank top with a pair of low-rise blue jeans. Meanwhile Eloise rocked a pair of black overalls over a grey t-shirt. It comes after the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum's ex claimed he caught Denise cheating on him, leading to the fight that prompted him to file for divorce. Phypers, 52, filed for divorce from Richards earlier this month after six years of marriage, listing July 4 as the official date of separation. Phypers — whom Richards has accused of physical abuse — alleged he discovered that Denise had cheated on him earlier this year in an interview with TMZ. The businessman claimed he found texts between Richards and another man on her laptop, including several selfies and affectionate messages like her wishing him 'sweet dreams.' He also claimed other messages suggested Richards and the other man were planning a hotel rendezvous, with her trying to sneak him into her room. Phypers claimed he confronted Richards about the alleged affair, and they decided to remain together. But a major July 4th weekend dispute ultimately prompted him to file for divorce. Richards has claimed the altercation started when Phypers verbally abused her and demanded his phone. Phypers said his phone was missing for over a day, and when he asked Richards about it, she allegedly hit and scratched him. He later found the phone smashed in the recycling bin. He believes Richards smashed his phone because it had photos of the texts proving she had the alleged affair. It comes after the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum's ex claimed he caught Denise cheating on him, leading to the fight that prompted him to file for divorce He claimed Richards texted his mother that weekend, stating her intention to divorce him, which prompted him to file for divorce first. Phypers filed for divorce July 7, citing irreconcilable differences. While Richards has yet to formally respond in court to Phypers' petition, which seeks spousal support, she has made serious allegations of abuse against him. On Wednesday, the former actress asked a Los Angeles judge for a restraining order – claiming her estranged spouse had routinely been violent towards her during their marriage and had blacked her eye after becoming paranoid about listening devices concealed in potted plants. Phypers has denied the claims, and says the black eye seen on Richards in a shocking photo included in her latest explosive court filing was actually the result of a drunken fall. A judge granted a domestic violence restraining order against Phypers. Phypers claims she sought the domestic violence restraining order to deflect attention from her alleged affair. He reiterated that he did not physically abuse Richards, stating, 'I did not hit my wife in the face, ever.' He also claimed Richards 'falls down a lot. And it's embarrassing, and people know it', after previously claiming the black eye was the result of a drunken fall. The pair's marriage was plagued by other issues as well. Phypers shared photos from inside their shared home, showing the residence in disarray and littered with numerous items. He claims that he and his family were burdened with the responsibility of caring for Richards' properties and animals. A source close to Phypers recently insisted to that he has never raised a hand to Richards, and dismissed the allegations as lies. The insider said: 'This is consistent with the ongoing untruthfulness of Denise Richards who is trying to hide her alcohol problem.' Referring to a photo of her with a black eye which she submitted as evidence in her petition for the restraining order, the insider said: 'That photo was taken in winter 2022 and the fact is, she was drunk at the time and fell coming up the steps to Aaron's clinic Q360.' 'She fell and caught the corner of her eye on the stairs and then came up to the office where they treated her and put ice on it.' 'There were lots of people in the office at the time, all of whom saw what happened. Aaron has never touched her and never would.' Richards has previously spoken about her addiction battle and, in 2023, sparked concern when she appeared to slur her words during an episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Phypers also issued his own statement denouncing his estranged wife's recent allegations, saying: 'I want to address recent rumors and speculation that have surfaced regarding my relationship with my wife, Denise Richards. 'Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise - or anyone. These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful.' 'Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue.' 'I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience and respect. I ask for privacy as we navigate personal matters, and I hope that the public and media will refrain from spreading harmful and baseless claims.' The divorce battle began two weeks ago when Phypers filed to end his marriage – blindsiding Richards who had said publicly that she never wanted to go through a divorce again. Along with the filing, he asked for spousal support totaling $105,000-a-month and said his income was 'zero' following the closure of his clinic last October. As a result, he relies on his wife's income which he claimed in court was $250,000-a-month, most of it earned via OnlyFans and her now canceled reality show Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. Richards admitted to facing challenges in her marriage earlier this year during an episode of her reality show Denise Richards and Her Wild Things. The mom-of-three said in a March episode of the E! reality show: 'It's not easy being married to me, but this is it, I'm done. 'I'm never getting divorced again. Even if we hate each other, I'm not gonna f****** get divorced.' For his part, Phypers chimed in that they might even live in separate houses, but insisted, 'We're not gonna hate each other.' Richards was previously married to wild child actor Charlie Sheen who she divorced in April 2006 while pregnant with their second child Sami. Along with divorce papers, she also slapped Sheen, 59, with a restraining order banning him from coming any closer than 300ft from his ex-wife and daughters. In 2010, she was awarded sole legal custody of their children with sources citing 'marital turmoil, sobriety issues, and criminal problems' for the decision. The latter refers to Sheen's arrest on Christmas Day 2009 for assaulting his third wife Brooke Mueller in an Aspen, Colorado, property during a festive break. Sheen was later convicted of misdemeanor assault and slapped with 30 days in rehab, 30 days of probation, and 36 hours of anger management. Richards moved on with her life and adopted a third daughter Eloise in June 2011 and started dating Phypers in December 2017 before marrying him less than a year later in September 2018. The marriage got off to a rocky start when it was revealed the pair had begun dating before Phypers' divorce from Desperate Housewives actress Nicolette Sheridan was finalized. Phypers later adopted Richards' daughter Eloise.
