Omdia: Nintendo Switch 2 to Drive Gaming Console Display Shipments up 200% in 2025 Sparking Innovation in Panel Technologies
According to Omdia's Industrial and Public Display & OEM Intelligence Service, global industrial display panel shipments reached 281.1 million units in 2024 and are expected to grow 3.4% year-on-year (YoY) to 290.6 million units in 2025. This growth is primarily attributed to the 'smart home and office' segment, which accounts for 64% of total shipments this year. A major factor behind this surge is the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 featuring a 7.9-inch LTPS gaming console display. Omdia estimates gaming console display shipments will surpass 15 million units or more in 2025, representing an increase of 200% YoY.

Industrial display shipment by application, millions of units, 2022-28F
Historically, demand in the industrial display market has remained stable due to its niche characteristics,' said Omdia Principal Analyst TzuYu Huang. 'However, tariff uncertainties in recent years prompted TV, IT and some industrial display supply chain participants to shift demand forward into the first half of 2025.'
While this pulled-forward demand may result in softer or uncertain demand in Q3, the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year is helping to sustain robust momentum in the smart home and office sector throughout 2025.
To achieve their 2025 industrial display shipment targets in 2025, panel makers are driving growth through innovation and emerging technologies. AUO Display Plus is focusing on indoor signage using EPD solution, outdoor signage and transportation applications with ChLCD, as well as open-frame and integrated display solutions for retail signage, 2D/3D medical displays, human-machine interface (HMI) devices, panel PCs, interactive white boards (IWBs), and slot machines.
BOE has achieved breakthroughs in diagnostic displays and has introduced AMOLED displays into industrial applications such as body cameras and 3.5- and 3.2-inch digital still cameras. Additionally, BOE has developed RGBW technology for electric vehicle (EV) chargers and signage applications.
Innolux is concentrating on mini LED displays with direct or local dimming backlight technology. Tianma has expanded into the public display market by ramping up production at their TM19 Gen 8.6 Fab, targeting key applications, such as 50-inch 4K displays for signage and 27-inch displays for the signage, kiosk, slot machines, and digitizer markets. Tianma also maintains a strategic focus on the two-wheeled EV sector, supplying 4.2-, 5-, and 7-inch displays in specific regions. Furthermore, Tianma is investing in mini LED backlight technology for its for larger display panels (13.3-, 15.6-, 17.3-, 23.8-, and 27-inch displays), specifically serving marine and aviation sectors.

The next Switch 2 restock kicks off at 7PM ET online at Walmart
Since its launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been notoriously difficult to buy, with many retailers selling out of their allotted stock within minutes. Luckily, there's good news: starting at 7PM Eastern today, Walmart Plus members will be able to purchase Nintendo's latest handheld console — either the standalone Switch 2 and the Mario Kart World bundle — through its website. The restock is happening just before its Walmart Deals event begins on July 8th, which lasts through July 13th. The standalone Switch 2 will go for $449 from Walmart. The bundle includes everything that comes with the Nintendo Switch 2 — a dock, a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers, etc. — as well as a download code for a digital copy of the new Mario Kart game (valued at $79.99). It will be available as a limited-time purchase through fall (or while supplies last). Switch 2 restocks have been limited, and when a retailer does have increased availability, the console typically sells out in minutes. The good news is that retailers are working behind the scenes to replenish inventory, and we've seen several restocks from the likes of Walmart, Target and Best Buy. While some of these have been in-store, we've also seen several online drops over the past few weeks. Conversely, for Nintendo fans in the U.K., getting hold of a Switch 2 has been comparatively easy. Nintendo Switch 2 restocks in the region have been more frequent and have often lasted days rather than minutes or hours. If you're in the U.K. and want a Switch 2, you likely won't have to wait very long to get the chance to secure Nintendo's new hybrid console. As a reminder, Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, and costs $449 / £395 standalone or $499 / £429 bundled with Mario Kart World. Unscrupulous scalpers are hoping impatient players will opt to spend more than the standard retail price, but don't give in and cough up more than is fair on a reseller marketplace. Switch 2 restocks are just around the corner. I've been tracking Switch 2 restocks since launch, and have more than five years of experience covering restock for in-demand gaming products. In this live blog, I'm bringing you the latest Switch 2 restock updates, and also providing all the retailer links you'll need. Walmart last restocked the Nintendo Switch 2 on Wednesday, June 25. The restock event was initially exclusive to Walmart Plus members, starting at 9 p.m. ET, before opening up to everyone at 10 p.m. ET. The electronics retailer has been another regular source of Switch 2 stock, and also held an in-store restock this week on Tuesday, July 1. This could mean the next drop is a little ways off as the retailer may need some time to build up its inventory again. But in a very strange move, it's now taken it down again, so at present there are no signs of Switch 2 stock at Amazon U.S. Over in the U.K., the mega retailer has been stocking Switch 2 for weeks and restocked often. My Nintendo Store is using an invite system to allocate its available Switch 2 stock. You will need to meet specific criteria, including having a Nintendo Switch Online account and then be selected and sent an invite to order the console. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Nintendo Store Antonline's Switch 2 listings have a "coming soon" message. This could be a sign that the tech retailer is planning to restock the console in the near future, though that message has been there quite a while now, so it's a little puzzling. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Antonline Newegg's Nintendo Switch 2 pages are live, but there's currently no stock. Newegg may restock the console soon, but nothing is confirmed yet, so this is another one to watch closely for now. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Newegg Sam's Club has a listing page for the Nintendo Switch 2, which currently advises the console is "coming soon." This could be an indication that the retailer is planning to take Switch 2 orders in the near future, so be sure to watch this space. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is practically guaranteed to be the most in-demand Switch 2 accessory, and it packs a suitable upgrade over its predecessor adding a headphone jack, the new "C" button, and customizable back buttons. Additional retailers: Best Buy | GameStop Need an extra set of Joy-Con 2 controllers for multiplayer, or just because it's always nice to have a spare? You can pick up an additional set of Joy-Con 2 at various retailers for $94. It's modeled after the iconic Piranha Planet from the Super Mario series and offers all the same features, plus you can close the Piranha's head to give yourself some privacy as needed. Huge caveat: it's resolution maxes out at 480p, whereas the Nintendo camera is retailers: Best Buy You don't need the Switch Joy-Con 2 Wheel to enjoy games like Mario Kart World, but it'll sure make the experience much more fun. Additional retailers: Best Buy | GameStop It's not the most exciting Switch 2 accessory, but should you need a spare AC adapter for your Switch to you can get one for $34.
