Country-rap star Colt Ford got candid with People about his dramatic 60-pound weight loss following a near-fatal heart attack 10 months ago.
On April 4, 2024, Ford suffered a heart attack which left him on life support and in a coma for eight days. Up until that point, the musician admitted, he never gave much thought to what he ate. 'I was a terrible eater,' he said, naming Mountain Dew and fried chicken as two of his most-consumed items. 'I loved that stuff.'Ford began to reconsider his choices after being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease which weakens muscles, in 2022. Before his heart attack last year, Ford had lost nearly 100 pounds, going from 340 lbs. to 250. 'I was working on losing weight and feeling great. Then all of a sudden…' he said of his medical setback. He had to undergo a marathon 10-hour surgery and was in rehab for two months afterward. 'It was life-changing,' he reflected. 'My doctor said, 'I have no idea how you survived.'"
But what was originally a setback has now become a positive turning point in Ford's health journey. 'I've changed everything. If I go by Whataburger, I'll eat a grilled chicken sandwich. I don't do all the fries and stuff," he told People. "McDonald's used to be my s--t and I loved it, but I haven't even craved it.' Ford knew he'd made a permanent change when his wife offered to take him to Waffle House on the morning of his 55th birthday. ' I said, 'Nah, I don't want to go.' That's when I knew I had won. I broke the habit.'
Ford, who now weighs 190 pounds, continued: 'I'm wearing a 32-inch waist now instead of 44—but I've told everybody there's much easier diets,' he joked. 'I'm looking at it as a blessing. I'm going to be healthier than I've ever been…God has more for me to do. For some reason, he saw fit to give me another chance, so I intend to do something positive with it.'
