2025 Emmy Awards host announced
Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze has been tapped to host the 77th Emmy Awards, taking place later this year.
Bargatze, 46, one of the most popular comics in the stand-up scene at the moment, will emcee the television award ceremony taking place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14.
'Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe,' said Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy.
While the Oscars have found success with Conan O'Brien, set to return in 2026, and the Golden Globes also welcoming back host Nikki Glaser for the 2026 ceremony, the Emmys have had a harder time finding a regular host. The last four Emmys have been hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, Anthony Anderson, Kenan Thompson and Cedric the Entertainer, respectively.
Bargatze, while yet to emcee a major awards show, is among the most sought-after entertainers, releasing three Netflix specials, including December's Your Friend, Nate Bargatze and hosting Saturday Night Live. With more than 1.2 million tickets sold in 2024, according to Pollstar, he was the top-earning comedian of the year.
'It's a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show and I'm beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world,' Bargatze said.
The news comes months before the Emmy nominations are set to be revealed on July 15 at 8:30 a.m. PT. To be eligible for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, a show must have been released between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025.
At the moment, Max's hit new medical drama The Pitt, as well as season three of its popular wealth satire The White Lotus, season two of Apple TV+'s sci-fi Severance, and the final season of Netflix's hit Korean-language thriller Squid Game lead drama series predictions.
Apple TV+'s The Studio and Shrinking, Hulu's Only Murders in the Building whodunnit, Max's Emmy-winning Hacks, and Netflix's Nobody Wants This are all expected to be frontrunners in the comedy categories.
Last year's Emmys saw FX and Hulu's historical drama Shōgun, Netflix's miniseries drama Baby Reindeer and FX's dark comedy The Bear take home the most wins.
The show was hosted by the father-son Levy duo, and reached 6.87 million average viewers, according to Nielsen, up 54 percent from the previous year.

Netflix users ‘cancel subscriptions' over ‘diabolical' update
Subscribers have been left fuming over Netflix's confusing new update Netflix users have been left outraged and confused by the streaming giant's latest update to its interface. Subscribers logging onto the service this week have discovered a new version of the app which has been rolling out globally since 19th May. The streamer promises to showcase 'better recommendations and an improved interface that highlights what matters most to you' with the new revamp. It includes a 'clean and modern' new design, alongside features such as personalised recommendations and improved shortcuts to fans' favourite titles. However, a substantial number of Netflix 's 300 million-strong userbase has taken to social media to slam the update, with some even promising to cancel their subscriptions. One X (formerly Twitter) user warned other subscribers: 'Netflix has destroyed the app. Worst UI redesign ever. Everyone needs to cancel.' Someone else fumed: 'netflix's update is diabolical where the hell is the coming soon section!!' Another posted: 'Whoever's job it was to update Netflix UI, I'm praying for a resignation in the coming weeks. IT LOOKS TERRIBLE.' And a fourth user wrote: '[...] the NEW Netflix Update has somehow made the UI like 10000x worse. 'It hurts my brain when I try and search new shows etc. Am I overreacting or do others not like the new UI?' Discussion continued over on Reddit where Netflix users were equally baffled by the change. One Redditor commented: 'It's awful. My TV updated to it automatically this week after putting off the update for ages, now it's a load of rubbish. Will be cancelling [my] subscription.' And another user agreed: 'It's soo dire. You can't find anything. 'It was so slick and easy to use before. Now it's soo clunky. I'm always willing to try new ideas, but this is a big step backwards.' They then admitted: 'Thinking I might actually now cancel my subscription.' Fans have even gone so far as to launch a petition demanding Netflix returns to the old interface. The description claims: 'The new layout only allows users to see a sparse selection of 3 or 4 titles per screen, compared to the previously user-friendly layout of 20 or more titles. 'This change not only limits variety and accessibility but also diminishes the ease-of-use Netflix was renowned for.' Netflix's chief product officer Eunice Kim explained the change back in May: 'We wanted to create an experience that was more flexible for our broad entertainment offerings, more intuitive and responsive to our members' needs, and capable of elevating the most thrilling moments on Netflix.' The family-friendly adventure film, Enola Holmes, was released exclusively on Netflix in 2020 and fans of Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown could not wait to see her in action once again This family-friendly period drama caused quite a stir on Netflix upon its release, with fans universally agreeing on one particular aspect of the "captivating" film. Millie Bobby Brown steps into the heroic shoes of Sherlock Holmes ' sister in the hit Netflix film Enola Holmes. The film, which was exclusively released on the platform in 2020, had Stranger Things enthusiasts eager to see more of their beloved young actress, this time portraying a character from the Victorian era. Taking audiences back in time, Enola Holmes is an all-ages adventure that the whole family can embark on, set in a world entirely of its own. A review from Rotten Tomatoes hailed the mystery film as both "genius and " and "adventurous," while another viewer labelled it a "great quality" film.
