Motorists urged to perform vehicle checks in summer
Running from the beginning of July until the end of September 2025, the campaign forms part of RTA's operational plan for traffic awareness. It aligns with the Authority's vision and strategic objectives to enhance road safety throughout the Emirate of Dubai.
Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, stated: 'RTA urges all motorists to conduct regular and routine maintenance checks, including a quick inspection before setting off. This should involve a visual check of tyre pressure, engine oil and coolant levels, and ensuring there are no oil or water leaks beneath the vehicle. Such quick checks help prevent unexpected breakdowns, which can increase the risk of traffic accidents and, in turn, affect road safety levels across the Emirate.'
"RTA is organising a series of summer events, including participation in Dubai Summer Surprises and summer camps for students. It is also keen to raise awareness among individuals in a manner appropriate to each event and tailored to the age group targeted. RTA also aims to deliver the seasonal awareness messages for summer 2025 to the widest possible segment of society to help instil the concept of traffic safety among the public,' he added.
Al Khzaimy highlighted the grave danger of leaving children unattended inside vehicles, warning that this behaviour can result in suffocation and death within minutes, even if the air conditioning is on, as it does not provide sufficient protection in a sealed environment. He urged parents, particularly mothers who drop off and pick up their children from school, never to leave children in the car, not even for a short period. He stressed that raising awareness of these risks is vital to protecting children's lives.
Tips for Drivers:
• Ensure that your vehicle's air conditioning system is functioning properly and effectively cooling the interior during the hot summer days.
• Check that engine oil and radiator coolant levels are in good condition, especially in summer when engine temperatures can rise to extreme levels.
• Make sure tyre pressure is correct and that tyres are in good condition to avoid blowouts while driving in high temperatures.
• Keep the brake system clean and well-maintained. Replace any worn brake components as needed to ensure optimal braking performance.
• Regularly keeping the vehicle tidy and clean helps with early fault detection and contributes to the vehicle's longevity. Always ensure the windscreen, rear and side windows, and headlights are clean for clear visibility.
• Avoid parking under direct sunlight for long periods. Whenever possible, park in shaded areas to protect the vehicle from extreme heat.

Dubai: RTA issues reminder on rules for school buses ahead of new academic year
Just one week ahead of the new academic year, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has called on all school bus operators in the emirate to be fully prepared. The authority stressed that it is important for operators to strictly comply with all health and safety requirements to ensure a secure and successful learning environment. School bus operators and administrations are required to maintain safety and provide a comfortable environment for students, supervisors and drivers alike. RTA closely and continuously monitors schools and operators to ensure they fulfill safety requirements. This includes inspections of school buses and operators. The authority listed the requirements and expectations of school bus operators, drivers and bus attendants: School transport operators must instruct their drivers to strictly comply with traffic regulations, particularly on roads and in areas surrounding schools. Drivers must not obstruct the flow of other vehicles, in order to reduce congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement. School transport operators must provide intensive training programmes for drivers and bus attendants, focusing on safe and professional ways of dealing with students. This training is done under RTA's supervision. Operators must equip buses with essential safety features and measures. Operators must maintain regular communication with parents to reassure them of their children's safety during daily commutes. Drivers must ensure the safety of the students by following safe driving practices. Bus attendants must ensure that students are escorted to the nearest point to their homes when they are dropped off. RTA also reminded students that they are required to follow the instructions of bus attendants when boarding and alighting the school bus. Accident-free day Earlier, the Ministry of Interior declared August 25, 2025 — the start of the new academic year— as 'A Day Without Accidents'. In order to incentivise motorists, the ministry has put into place a reward system for those who do not violate any traffic laws on this day. If motorists submit a pledge on the official MOI website, and register no violations recorded on August 25, four black points will be deducted from their driving licences. The deduction will happen electronically by September 15, 2025, eliminating the need to visit service centres. Since the announcements, motorists have been rushing to sign up for the pledge, taking it as a welcome relief and a good reminder to be more careful about following traffic rules.

Ajman bans electric scooters on roads and public streets
Ajman residents, take note – electric scooters are now officially banned in the emirate on public streets and roads. The police in Ajman are taking measurements to increase safety across the emirate and have issued a statement regarding the use of electric scooters on roads. All types of two-wheeler scooters and e-vehicles are now not allowed to be used on public roads and streets and are only to be used in designated areas. The move comes after authorities observed an increase in reckless behaviour from riders, including travelling the wrong way on a one-way road, not wearing appropriate safety gear and entering a road from an exit. — ajmanpoliceghq (@ajmanpoliceghq) August 14, 2025 The ban on electric scooters is a wider push for ridership safety across the UAE, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. There have been similar crackdowns by authorities of the other emirates, warning of reckless behaviour and discouraging violations. Some UAE residents are calling for stricter regulations, and a special unit in Dubai was set up to monitor violations by cyclists and e-scooter riders. Ajman police have also recently banned bicycles on public roads and streets, encouraging cyclists to only use them in designated areas. Accident Free Day Speaking of safety, the UAE recently announced an Accident Free Day on August 25, where drivers can get up to 4 black points removed from their license for avoiding driving violations and trouble on the roads of the UAE on this particular day. The chosen day is the first day of the school year and is expected to be an extremely busy time on the roads around the country. Up to four points will be deducted from drivers' records by September 15. To sign up, log on to the Ministry of Interior's (MOI) website and sign the pledge. Read more here. Dubai RTA begins construction of new lane to ease Nad Al Hamar traffic
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun building an 850-meter lane from Ras Al Khor Road toward Nad Al Hamar Intersection, along with widening the storage lane for vehicles approaching from Al Rebat Street and turning left at the same intersection. The work is taking place near Nasser Bin Lootah Mosque and is part of the Summer 2025 Improvement Plan under RTA's 2025 Rapid Traffic Improvements initiative. The project aims to reduce congestion on Ras Al Khor Road and Al Rebat Street, improve traffic flow toward Nad Al Hamar, and enhance road safety. Completion is targeted by the end of August, with the upgrades expected to increase daily mobility, improve residents' quality of life, and support RTA's vision of becoming a leader in seamless and sustainable mobility. Once finished, the new lane will boost capacity toward Nad Al Hamar by 33%, from 4,800 to 6,400 vehicles per hour, cutting average travel time from 15 minutes to 11 minutes. The improvements are projected to enhance traffic flow by up to 27% during evening peak hours, while the widened storage lane will reduce queueing and ease access to Ras Al Khor Road. The enhancements will benefit traffic heading to Nad Al Hamar and nearby areas such as Al Rashidiya, Al Qusais, and Dubai International Airport. RTA said the expansion will also strengthen connectivity between residential communities and major destinations, improving both local and main road network efficiency.
