Jewelry store robbery suspects busted in Barrie, Ont.

Barrie police were called to Georgian Mall after a jewelry store robbery, Mon., Aug. 19, 2025.
Five men walked into a Barrie's Georgian Mall (RioCan) jewelry shop at around 1:50 Monday.
The young masked men smashed the display cabinets and stole jewelry before running down to the lower parking level where they hopped into a waiting car.
Barrie police were provided with a description of the getaway car by witnesses – including the licence plate number – and discovered it had been stolen in Toronto last week.
Police caught up to the car as it drove southbound on Highway 400 towards Mapleview Drive. They followed the vehicle until it attempted to exit at Innisfil Beach Road, but the driver lost control and skidded off the road.
The young men attempted to flee the area, but Barrie Police quickly had them surrounded and all five were arrested in short order.
The suspects were transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where detectives continued the investigation.
The Criminal Investigation Division charged the boys and men, who range in age from 16 to 21, from Toronto, Mississauga and Barrie, with:
Robbery with violence,
Disguise with intent,
Flight from peace officer,
Dangerous Operation,
Possess stolen property over $5,000,
Possess stolen property under $5,000.
Of the five arrested, one of the accused who is 17 years old, was found to be in possession of a fully loaded semi-automatic firearm.
He is further charged with:
Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
Knowledge unauthorized possession of a firearm,
Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm,
Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime,
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm,
Carry firearm weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner,
Possess weapon for a dangerous purpose,
Carrying concealed weapon.
All five were kept in custody for a bail hearing, which is scheduled to take place Tuesday.
The Barrie Police Service thank the public who assisted with providing detailed information that resulted in the robbery coming to a safe conclusion.

A man pulled from a pool at a condo building in Scarborough has died in hospital, Toronto police say. A male in his 40s has died after police say he was pulled from a pool in Scarborough. According to police, the man was found unresponsive at a pool at a building on Mondeo Drive, located near Birchmount and Ellesmere roads, on Wednesday night. ADVERTISEMENT Police did not provide further details about the incident, saying only that it is not believed to be criminal in nature.
