Netflix's Adolescence is now second biggest English-language show on streaming platform
Netflix's Adolescence has hit a huge new milestone, surpassing Stranger Things, as the second most watched English-language TV series, but which show holds the top spot?
Netflix's Adolescence has officially became the streamer's second most-watched English-language TV series, surpassing Stranger Things, which previously held the spot.The crime drama mini-series, co-created and starring Stephen Graham, arrived on the streaming platform on March 13 and recently reached a huge milestone of 141.2M total views, putting it above the fourth season of Stranger Things, which initially held the title at 140.7M views.
It follows the dramatic aftermath of a 13-year-old boy Jamie, portrayed by Owen Cooper, who is arrested for murdering a classmate. Each episode is remarkably shot in one take. In first place is the debut season of the platform's Addams Family spin-off, Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, which racked in a jaw dropping 252.1M total views within its first 91 days.
In comparison, season one of the streamer's popular Korean psychological thriller Squid Game is Netflix's most watched non-English language TV series, bringing in a whopping 265.2M views in its first three months. Adolescence, which is likely to land several Emmy nominations next month, recently swept at the 2025 Gotham TV Awards.
It was awarded the prize for Breakthrough Limited Series, as well as two acting awards for Graham and young newcomer Owen Cooper for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited Series and Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Limited Series, respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Graham said: 'We're overwhelmed for you to embrace us the way you have.
"This was a small colloquial piece that was made with love, respect, humility and dignity, and we treated the subject with a lot of passion, but a lot of care.'
Speaking to The Independent in March about the struggles of shooting each episode in one go, director Philip Barantini admitted: 'It was quite difficult, but it was fun as well. It was meticulously planned.
'[Tech rehearsals] would be an opportunity for the sound team to put the booms where they needed to be.
"And, we had all the support and the runners and ADs all dressed in police uniforms in the first episode and teachers in the second episode so they could be on camera and cueing things.
'It was technically challenging, but a huge collaboration.'
It comes after 15-year-old Owen from Cheshire in England recently appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and boldly revealed "one thing he hates about America".
Host Jimmy had asked the teenager what he didn't like about America as Owen spent some time there promoting the Netflix drama which is now in talks for a second series.
The young actor replied: "One thing I hate about America - the chocolate and the sweets, everything is just terrible. It's just Cheetos and all that nonsense. Honestly, I hate it."
Whilst slating US confectionery, he even brought out some classic British snacks to prove his point that they are better.
Owen lifted up a basket of snacks to reveal his favourite treats to Jimmy, which included the classic Maltesers.
He asked the host: "Have you ever had a Malteser? Right - I'll bring the whole basket up. So this is what I brought [Monster Munch, Maltesers and Fruit Pastilles]"

Maniac killed and dismembered 19-year-old college student on their first date
A Wisconsin man killed and dismembered a 19-year-old college student on their first date after watching a Netflix show that depicted an eerily similar mutilation. Maxwell Anderson was convicted of homicide and dismembering a corpse for the horrific killing of Sade Robinson on April 1, 2024 - just days after the two met at a bar. The pair had spent the late afternoon and early evening of the fateful date at two bars before going back to Anderson's apartment. At one point, Anderson turned on the Netflix series "Love, Death & Robots." The finale of Season 2 is an episode called 'The Drowned Giant' which shows a gruesome dismantling of a human body on a beach. Prosecutors in the case claimed that Anderson mutilated Robinson's body on a Wisconsin beach overlooking Lake Michigan. 'I was like... that's disgusting because that could have been where he got some of his ideas or fantasies,' juror Melissa Blascoe told the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinal. 'I physically felt like I was gonna throw up at that point. I know a lot of people were shaking and crying.' Anderson was also charged with arson and hiding a corpse in connection with her death. He was found guilty on all counts. Investigators said that Anderson is believed to have spread her remains around Milwaukee County and burned her car to hide evidence. Anderson and Robinson had met at a bar a week before she disappeared, Assistant District Attorney Ian Vance-Curzan said. Disturbing images showed Robinson being groped by Anderson while she lay face down on his couch, and prosecutors said she was far too incapacitated to have resisted. Surveillance video showed Robinson's car leaving the apartment in the early hours of April 2 before arriving at a county park along Lake Michigan shores. The young student's disappearance sparked concern when she didn't appear for work the next day. Her manager, Justin Romano, told CNN that Robinson was 'very outgoing, she would talk to everybody here. She was always there to lighten the mood.' Romano said her not showing up for work 'wasn't like her at all,' and added: 'We kind of knew something was up; we had been calling her all day.' Anderson is believed to have dismembered her body into pieces and burned her car behind an abandoned building before taking a bus back to his apartment, Vance-Curzan said. Within the car, despite 'extreme fire damage,' investigator's identified the outfit Robinson had been wearing on the night of the date as well as part of an iPhone consistent with hers burned in the car, CNN reported. Police then were called to Warnimont Park where a human leg, that appeared to have been 'sawn off' at the hip, was discovered. The leg was then identified as Robinson's. A 'confidential informant' claimed that Anderson had planned to kill Robinson weeks prior to her death, Fox News reported. Anderson's attorney, Tony Cotton, argued, however, that the prosecution showed no evidence of Anderson's intention to kill Robinson. Cotton also pointed out he made no attempt to conceal himself on public transport home, and was wearing clean clothes despite having allegedly cut up her body in a muddy park. Jurors reached their verdict within an hour on the ninth day of trial. 'While we are satisfied with this verdict, our hearts go out to the family of Sade Robinson,' Vane-Curzan said, Fox News reported. Milwaukee County Sheriff's Det. JoAnn Donner spent months working on the case and said: 'My heart goes out to the family and [Robinson's] friends and really, the community at large. 'It's everyone's come together, and it's really hard to take that step back as a law enforcement officer and not get that really emotionally involved during the case,' she continued. 'I will admit that I did go back to my office after the verdict, and I had a good cry because I finally got to have that emotion. It does affect us too.' Robinson's mother, Sheena Scarbrough, said in a GoFundMe for her daughter's memorial service that Robinson was a 'loving daughter, a cherished sister, and a dear friend to many.' 'The pain of losing Sade has left a void in the hearts of her family, especially her grieving mother and little sister, along with other relatives, friends and the entire community who loved and supported her,' the fundraiser said. Anderson is set for sentencing on August 15, where he faces a mandatory life sentence in prison.

Known as the Benidorm Fanatic to his TikTok followers, he told people he headed to Uncle Ron's bar, which is said to be "famous" for its pints, notable for how cheap they're sold for. As he ventured to the venue, he was left astoudned at the price list, as he seriously got a lot for his money. In the clip, he said: "I tell you what, I believe it's actually a very, very nice pint as well, so it comes to the equivalent of about 84p in British money. Let's go and try it out, shall we? Let's give it a try." After he made his way to the bar, he added: "So there you go, I'll give you a euro, a €1 pint, and I'll take that. Let's try this €1 pint. Look at that - a nice, clean, cold pint. It's got a nice, good head on it - let's try it. "That is actually one of the best pints I've had in one of the popular bars. That is actually one of the best pints I've had in Benidorm to be honest with you. €1, I'll drink them all day." Since he shared the video, many people have viewed it, and they were quick to comment too. They shared their thoughts, and some posted their own Benidorm stories. One said: "Wow." Another shared: "I was there last week." A third replied: "Lovely pint. Had many." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Bargain." If you've never heard of Uncle Ron's before, it's a popular spot for British tourists in Benidorm. As well as being known for its cheap drinks, it also serves food too. According to TripAdvisor, the venue serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has 3.8/5 rating on average, according to the review platform. Many people say it's worth a visit if you're looking for a reasonable meal and a few drinks while on holiday. In the review section, one person wrote: "Had a fantastic breakfast at Ron's today. Lovely English produce. Great service. Brilliant staff. "A massive group came in, but they were serviced promptly. Don't know how they manage with so few staff." Another said: "Last day we visited for some lunch before heading to airport. Left full, which is always a good thing. In all my times of going here, never left unhappy at the service nor the food - always really good." A third replied: "We went many times during our two-week holiday. The staff are friendly and extremely hard working day and night. "Cheapest drinks you will find in town and food to suit everyone (daily deal only 6 euros). It's not a stylish 5* restaurant but then you wouldn't expect it. "For drinks just go to the bar like a normal bar. Always busy Sunday and Friday, so expect to book if you want a Sunday lunch. Would we go again? Certainly would!"
