George Ford hails England's second-half showing in impressive win over Argentina

Ford marked his 100th appearance for England with a 15-point haul in La Plata as he pulled the strings for Steve Borthwick's makeshift line-up.
Without several players due to British and Irish Lions commitments, Ford and fellow co-captain Jamie George stepped up to help England through a difficult first half, in which they were temporarily reduced to 13 men, before they attacked with aplomb after the break.

Tom Roebuck grabbed a brace of second-half tries and Freddie Steward also crossed before Cadan Murley wrapped up the scoring late on to earn a comprehensive win, which was all the more impressive given Alex Coles and Seb Atkinson were sent to the sin-bin at the same time during the opening period.
Ford's drop goal proved the difference between the teams at the break and, in addition to three successful conversions, the Sale fly-half sent over two penalties in quick succession as Argentina threatened a response to help ease England to victory.
'We just wanted to perform well and win,' Ford told Sky Sports.
'It's all about the team as always. We understand how difficult it is here in Argentina, so it is a great win for us.
'We were under pressure in the first half, gave away too many penalties and could not get out of our half.
'We had to make sure second half we got out of our half and created some try-scoring opportunities, which we did early in the second half.
'We have to back it up next week and we know Argentina will come back at us. Another challenge that we will look forward to.'
England were indebted to co-captain George after Coles was given a yellow card for a head-on-head contact with Facundo Isa.
Yet, after Santiago Carreras missed a simply penalty for the hosts, Ford reprised his role as chief tormentor of Argentina with a fine drop goal to make it 3-0 at the break.
Atkinson had also been shown a yellow card by this point as England were briefly down to 13, but three tries in nine minutes at the start of the second half meant those cards mattered little.
Sale wing Roebuck crashed over on the right inside two minutes before Ford's slick pass sent old Leicester team-mate Steward across the line.
When Roebuck grabbed his second soon after Argentina looked set for a long night.
However, tries for Pablo Matera and Pedro Rubiolo helped raise the prospect of an unlikely comeback, only for Ford to nail two long-range penalties before Murphy dotted down to seal a clinical away win.

What could the planned UFC fight at the White House look like?

It's a seismic moment in a sporting promotion that has had a stratospheric rise since its inception three decades ago. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to be staged at The White House next year, when longtime fan Donald Trump is likely to be in the front row as the fighters battle it out on the lawn. Marking the July 4 celebrations, 250 years on from the founding of the United States, it promises to be quite a spectacle. And British and Irish MMA fighters will almost certainly be entering the Octagon if the history-making event goes ahead. UFC boss Dana White, whose friendship with Trump stretches back to the early 2000s, said: 'It is definitely going to happen.' White explained that he plans to finalise the plans with the US president and his daughter Ivanka at the end of the month. While the UFC has been staged all over the world, it would be the first time that it has been hosted in the seat of power. The main fight events are large arena shows drawing tens of thousands of people, and it's unclear where exactly where the show would take place, but it's thought it would be staged on the lawn. 'When he called me and asked me to do it, he said, 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'' White told CBS Mornings of his discussions with Trump. 'So Ivanka reached out to me and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings.' Trump previously said that a UFC event will take place 'on the grounds of the White House' on Independence Day. 'We have a lot of land there,' he added. The president, speaking at a rally in Iowa last month, said the event could be staged in front of between 20,000 and 25,000 people. An AI image produced by a picture agency shows the eight-sided cage in front of the presidential building in Washington DC. In real life, the arena would likely be comprised of thousands of seats, with room for light shows and performers. What is clear is that the UFC can put on extravagant shows, best exemplified by the dazzling spectacle at the Las Vegas Sphere for Mexican Independence Weekend in September 2024. British undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is the most obvious pick for a UK fighter to feature on the White House card. However, in conversation with combat sports broadcaster Ariel Helwani, it became clear that he is concentrating on his upcoming fight with Frenchman Ciryl Gane in October. Aspinall said the thought of a White House fight with Jon 'Bones' Jones, widely regarded as having ducked the Brit before leaving retiring, had occupied 'zero seconds in my mind.' The champion, from Wigan, explained: 'Not interested, and the world shouldn't be interested, because what's the point? It's false hope.' Asked if he would still be interested in fighting at the White House without Jones making an unlikely comeback, he replied: 'Not particularly, it doesn't not interest me, but it doesn't really interest me to be honest. I'm not really fussed by it, I'll fight anywhere, it doesn't really bother me. 'It would be a cool experience but I'm not like…I feel like the Americans should get the shot at the White House, I'm not American, Trump and the political stance in America doesn't really bother me. 'I'm not really a big Trump supporter or against that stuff is just irrelevant to me.' Also speaking to Helwani, UFC fighter Michael Chandler, who was soundly beaten by Scouser Paddy Pimblett in April, said he would 'love' to fight the Irish former two-times champion at the venue. More Trending 'That's the one everyone wants, that's the pinnacle,' he said of the yet to be announced White House card. 'As a fighter you want the biggest stages the brightest lights the biggest money you possibly can with the shortest window of opportunity you have in the sport and fighting on the White House lawn with the president of the United States… 'I was just with someone else from his team and he said people from England will be coming to pay their respects, it's going to be special.' Man Utd's secret weapon confirms arrival after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo transfers

A key figure has made the switch to Manchester United from one of Jim Ratcliffe's other major sporting investments and is already making an impact on recruitment at Old Trafford The recruitment team at Manchester United has been given a boost by the arrival of a key former ally to Lewis Hamilton. Michael Sansoni spent more than a decade working in Formula 1 for the Mercedes team and contributed to eight team's championships and six of the seven titles won by Brit Hamilton. ‌ An enormous amount of data is collected and analysed at every single F1 race and Sansoni has a wealth of experience when it comes to deciphering it. During his time at Mercedes, he rose to the position of performance engineer working specifically with Hamilton. ‌ But he left the team, which is one-third owned by Jim Ratcliffe through is INEOS petrochemicals company, earlier this year for a move to the British billionaire's flagship investment. Sansoni has been confirmed as the club's new director of data. ‌ "Reporting to Omar Berrada, chief executive, Sansoni will be responsible for transforming the club's capabilities in data and artificial intelligence, drawing on his experience in machine learning and advanced modelling in Formula 1," a club statement read. "He has been tasked with establishing Manchester United as a data-led organisation, embedding predictive and AI-driven decision-making across football and the wider club. To support these objectives, further recruitment is planned into a number of data, software and platform engineering roles in the coming months, as Sansoni builds out his team." And it seems their new recruit has begun in earnest. In a post on social media site LinkedIn, Sansoni suggested that two of Man United's major summer signings so far, forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo who cost the Old Trafford club a combined £133.5million, were identified as a result of his data-led efforts. READ MORE: Jadon Sancho transfer interest confirmed as club chief breaks silence – 'I want him' He wrote: "I am very lucky to have had not just one, but two dream jobs. After a phenomenal time in Formula 1, it is a privilege to now be part of the biggest club in world football. "Over the past few months, we have already made meaningful progress. With new methodologies starting to take shape and two fantastic signings, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, already reflecting some of that early work. ‌ "I have inherited a brilliant team: smart, committed, and hungry to make a difference and together we are building a world-class data and AI function to power decision-making across football and the wider club. The challenge is great, but so is the opportunity." Man United have also added Benjamin Sesko this summer, signing the striker from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to £74m. And they have been heavily linked with a swoop for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba who would also command a significant transfer fee, should the Seagulls be willing to sell.

The 26-year-old star won the WBA featherweight world title last March, defeating Otabek Kholmatov via a dramatic TKO in the final round. But he failed to defend his title in June, 2024 as he lost out to Nick Ball - who also fights on the card - by split decision. He has since moved up to the super featherweight division where he has beaten both Orlando Gonzalez and Thomas Mattice. His opponent, the more experienced Nova, has a professional boxing record of 24-3-1, although he hasn't won a fight since 2023.
