Trae Young named assistant general manager of OU Basketball
NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — Trae Young's playing days aren't over, he's just diversifying he's resume.
The Norman native announced on ESPN's NBA Today that he's accepted a role as assistant general manager of the OU basketball program. In addition to his new position, Young will donate $1 million dollars to the program.

'As someone who grew up in Norman and played at the University of Oklahoma, stepping into the role of assistant GM for OU Basketball is a huge honor,' said Young. 'This program has such a rich history, which I am fortunate to have been and continue to be a part of. In my new role, my focus is on helping contribute to OU's winning culture, working alongside the coaching staff and front office to bring in the right players to help us compete and succeed at the highest level.'
Young played one season with the Sooners in 2017-18, earning first team All-America honors along with National Freshman of the Year.
Young's role will include fundraising efforts, assisting in building the roster from high school prospects to the transfer portal, and negotiating contracts in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations.

He's the second NBA player to accept an assistant GM role. Steph Curry did the same with his alma mater Davidson.
OU Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione thinks this move makes perfect sense for Young and the Sooners.
'Trae is a son of Norman, Oklahoma, and he's given so much to our city and its people,' said Castiglione. 'He has a strong affinity for this place and his commitment to ensuring our community is a thriving one is truly unmatched. He's also an OU legend who, in his time here and since, continues to achieve excellence both on and off the court. With this appointment, we're taking his commitment to Norman and to OU to the next level, dedicating our mutual support together to the success of our men's basketball program. His mind is made for this game, and we're incredibly fortunate he's in our corner wanting to put his talents and innovative thinking toward strengthening our program. Young, a four-time NBA All-Star, will try to help Porter Moser's club build on a 20-14 season that ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

McConnell could walk through any city in America – except Indianapolis – and no one save the most diehard NBA fan would recognize him as a professional basketball player in the best league in the world. Make no mistake, McConnell is a paid professional. McConnell, the Indiana Pacers' 6-foot-1 reserve guard, did what no player in NBA Finals history has done since steals and blocks became an official stat in 1973-74: he is the first reserve to have at least 10 points, five steals and five assists in a Finals game. Indiana's bench stole Game 3, helping the Pacers to a 116-107 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, June 11, pushing the Pacers to a 2-1 series lead. A 10-year veteran, McConnell was a major part of a massive Pacers' bench effort that reshaped the tone of the series, scoring 10 points, delivering five assists and collecting five steals. Bennedict Mathurin scored a game-high 27 points in 22 minutes off bench, dropping in 14 points in the second quarter when the Pacers' bench asserted itself and prevented Oklahoma City from establishing control of the game, and Obi Toppin had eight points, six rebounds and two blocks off the bench. Indiana's bench outscored the Thunder's 49-18, and had more rebounds (13-1), assists (7-6), blocks (3-0) and steals (7-3). 'Those guys were tremendous,' Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. 'T.J. just brought a will, competitive will to the game. Mathurin jumped in there and immediately was aggressive and got the ball in the basket. 'This is the kind of team that we are. We need everybody to be ready. It's not always going to be exactly the same guys that are stepping up with scoring and stuff like that. But this is how we got to do it, and we got to do it as a team.' Much discussion has been given to Oklahoma City's depth and for good reason. But the Pacers have depth, too, going 10 deep and nine players played at least 15 minutes in Game 3. McConnell's first steal came on an OKC in-bounds pass after a Pascal Siakam layup. Here was McConnell's sequence in a six-second span: assist, steal, offensive rebound, assist. Three of his steals came on Thunder in-bounds passes, including a steal and layup that tied the score at 95-95 with 8:35 remaining. 'In a series like this what's so important is the margins. You have to win in the margins,' Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton said. 'It's not necessarily who can make the most shots or anything. It's taking care of the ball, rebounding, little things like that. He does a great job of giving us energy plays consistently and getting downhill and operating. Nobody operates on the baseline like that guy. He does a great job of consistently getting there and making hustle play after hustle play.' Mathurin, 22, was injured last year during Indiana's run to the Eastern Conference finals, but Carlisle said, 'He was with the team. He just wasn't playing. He took a lot of notes, a lot of mental notes, and he may have written some things down. He's putting (in) a lot of work to be ready for these moments, and tonight he was an absolute major factor.' His scoring is down in the playoffs compared to the regular season, but he has scored at least 20 points in four games. His first-half offensive production was necessary and his points in the second half either extended Indiana's lead or cut into a deficit at a critical time. They were important buckets. Mathurin is the youngest player to score 25 or more points off the bench in a Finals game since starters and bench players were first tracked in 1970-71. 'He's had games like this in previous series. He seems to have a game like this in every series. He's a talented player,' Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. 'He was really aggressive tonight. He did a great job. … Their bench really came in the game and was excellent.' The Pacers had their best start-to-finish game of the series. Haliburton had 22 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and two steals, producing his game against the Thunder. Indiana needed that from him. But the Pacers don't win Game 3 without their bench play. And they will need that again at some point if they want to win two more games and earn the franchise's first NBA championship since they left the ABA in 1976.

Given much of the reporting in recent weeks about Porzingis' availability on the trade market, Boston eyeing a potential new deal comes as a bit of a surprise. That said, health issues could help the Celtics keep him on the team at a much steeper discount than what he's been paid for the last two seasons in Boston. If the plan is to keep him around, that could have implications for the future of Jrue Holiday, Sam Hauser, and maybe even Payton Pritchard in Boston. If the plan is to keep Porzingis, they'll likely have to trade at least two of those three players to get under the NBA's second tax apron. YSU senior finishes Top-10 at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
EUGENE, Oregon (WKBN) – YSU senior Tye Hunt finished 10th in the long jump at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. Hunt's best jump measured 7.77m at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. University of Florida senior and three-time First Team All-American Malcolm Clemons won the event with a jump of 8.04m on his first attempt to win his first national title. Hunt was one of 24 finalists in the country to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He posted a season-best 7.92m at the Virginia Challenge in April. He also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last year and finished in ninth place to earn All-American honors. Hunt's teammate Hunter Christopher will compete in the 5,000m NCAA finals on Friday.
