Indian cinema has introduced plenty of actresses during every era. From Mumtaz Shanti, Nargis, Begum Para in the 1940s to Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt in 2025, actresses from all generations have ruled Bollywood. While many actresses vanished in the glitz and glamour of the industry, others remained intact. However, there was an actress whose career spanned over five decades. She was not just an actress but a phenomenon to many. Her timeless beauty combined with her versatility to slip into any role easily made her the iconic actress of her time.
While today this actress is not with us anymore, her roles are evergreen. Fans still remember her with great affinity. If you are wondering who we are talking about, then this actress is late actress Sridevi. From a child artist in South Indian films to becoming Bollywood's first true female superstar, her journey was nothing short of cinematic.
Sridevi's first Bollywood film as a child artist was Julie (1975). However, her first leading role in a Hindi movie came in Solva Sawan (1979). Her major breakthrough came when she featured in Himmatwala in 1983. Over the next few years, Sridevi went on to give major hit films. Shooting in Afghanistan
Sridevi has worked with A-list actors and among them was Amitabh Bachchan. The duo worked in Khuda Gawah and the film turned out to be a huge hit. Do you know that a part of Khuda Gawah was shot in Afghanistan's Mazar-e-Sharif during troubled times?
Afghanistan has always been a place where the situation often remained tense. During these times, Sridevi and Amitabh were shooting for their film Khuda Gawah. At the time, Afghanistan's President Najibullah Ahmadzai was reportedly an ardent admirer of the megastar. During the actors' shoot in the country, they were allegedly given security by half of the Afghan Air Force.
In 2013, Amitabh opened up about the incident in a Facebook post. He wrote, 'The Soviets had just left the country and power was handed over to Najibullah Ahmadzai who was a die-hard fan of popular Hindi cinema. He wanted to meet me and we were given the right royal treatment. We were treated as VVIP state guests at Mazar-e-Sharif and taken through the length and breadth of the incredibly beautiful country in airplanes with armed escorts.'
He further added, 'We received the traditional warmth of the locals who have a passion for hospitality. We weren't allowed to stay in a hotel… a family just vacated its home for us and moved to a smaller house.'
While everything was going smoothly and Sridevi even appeared in the film Mom in 2017, a year later, everything changed, and the actress was found dead in her bathtub in her Dubai hotel. Piece of Gold Was Kept in Sridevi's Mouth Due to…
During Sridevi's last rites, a piece of gold was kept in her mouth and she was given the final farewell with state honours.
