Deepika Padukone Gets Support In Spirit Row, Anurag Basu Says 'I Also Don't Like Long Shifts'
Director Anurag Basu backed Deepika Padukone and said that his actors never complain about long hours.
The debate around work-life balance in Bollywood is heating up, especially after reports emerged that Deepika Padukone was removed from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to her requests for an eight-hour workday, profit-sharing, and language flexibility being turned down. Now, director Anurag Basu has backed Deepika's demand for an eight-hour shift.
In a recent chat with Firstpost, Anurag Basu said, 'I also don't like long-hour shifts at work. My actors never complain about long hours or stress at work. So, I absolutely agree with what Deepika Padukone had to say. It's a film; I never give my actors a chance to complain about this."
'I want my actors to be very happy on set and know their character well. I don't give too much information to them before the shoot begins. Let them discover their roles, and this is the method I have been following for ages," Anurag said, explaining his process of filmmaking.
Previously, Deepika's Chhapaak co-star Vikrant Massey also backed her in a chat with the portal. Vikrant addressed whether such a shift in Bollywood's rigorous shooting culture is realistic. 'I aspire to do something like that very soon. Maybe in a couple of years… I want to go out and say, we can collaborate, but I would only work for eight hours," he shared. However, he was quick to add that it must remain a mutual decision: 'But at the same time, it should be a choice. And if my producer cannot accommodate that, because there are also a lot of other things involved when you are making a film…"
'Money plays a very important role, and I will have to reduce my fees as I will be working for eight hours instead of twelve," he also said. 'If I cannot give my producer twelve hours a day, I cannot go out there and not reduce my fee. I ought to reduce my fee. It's a give-and-take, right?" In a show of solidarity, Vikrant also added, 'And as a young mother, I think Deepika deserves it."
Meanwhile, after her exit from Prabhas starrer Spirit, Deepika Padukone, will next be seen in Atlee's pan-India action project, AA22×A6, opposite Allu Arjun. Reportedly, Will Smith will play the antagonist in the film. However, there is no confirmation on this yet.

Kanika Kapoor Makes Shocking Claim, Says Singers Don't Get Paid: ‘Rs 101 Milte Hain'
Baby Doll singer Kanika Kapoor recently talked about the harsh reality of the Indian music industry, and stated that most singers are not paid for their songs. Singer Kanika Kapoor, most famously known for her songs such as Baby Doll and Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, recently make some shocking claims about the Indian music industry. He talked about the harsh reality of the industry, and said that most singers in Bollywood are not paid for their songs. She revealed that she has her own contracts as proof, showing that singers are often paid a token amount of as little as Rs 101. According to her, the industry frames it as if they're doing the singer a favour. While Kanika didn't take names, she revealed that even the greatest singer in India isn't receiving proper compensation, royalties, or publishing rights for their biggest hits. On 'Bunkk With Uorfi,' Kanika Kapoor was asked to name someone who has given her a hard time in the industry. The singer replied, 'Everybody." Uorfi then asked, 'I know you did a song that went really viral, but you were not paid for it." Kanika replied, 'I don't think any singer is really paid for songs in this industry. It's only now maybe some independent music but…" When asked whether singers are really not paid, she replied, 'No. Singers don't really get paid. Main saare contracts dikhaati hu, 101 rupees mile hain. (I can show you all the contracts. I was paid Rs 101). They say that they are doing you a favour. I can talk to you about the greatest singer of India. I am not going to give names, but very obvious. I don't think that even he is being paid for most of his greatest songs ever. Or has any publishing, or has any royalty structure. there is nothing like that in India today." Kanika Kapoor On How Singers Make Money Despite Not Being Paid For Their Songs She then added that the only way singers make money is through their live shows. However, they had no pension or long-term financial support for singers in India. 'Only if you are alive and you are able to sing, agar aapki awaaz chal rahi hai, aur aap shows kar paa rahe hain. Jab tak aap shows kar paa rahe hain, tab tak aapko paise milenge. Kal ko kuchh ho jaaye to koi pension plan nahi hai singers ke liye. ('As long as your voice is working and you're able to perform shows, you'll keep earning. But if something happens tomorrow, there's no pension plan for singers)." When asked again whether singers truly don't get paid for their songs, Kanika clarified that while she hasn't seen everyone's contracts, the reality is — they don't. 'Nothing. 101 Rs milte hain," she said. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Playing villain is so much fun: Piper Perabo
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Los Angeles, Aug 17 (PTI) 'Covert Affairs" star Piper Perabo says essaying a negative character in spy thriller series 'Butterfly" has been a 'fun and relaxing" experience for her. Perabo portrayed the role of Juno, the evil head of a private intelligence corporation in South Korea, in the Prime Video series. Also starring Daniel Dae Kim, the series made its debut on the streamer on August 13. 'Playing the villain is so much fun…I think the villains in Hollywood keep that secret to themselves so that they don't have to give up the great parts," the 48-year-old actor told Variety in an interview. 'I think it's so relaxing. The getaway car pulls up to you, there's no running. You have an endless supply of weapons. It's very relaxing," she added. Directed by Kim Jin-min, Jann Turner, and Kitao Sakurai, the series comprised six episodes and got mixed responses from the audience. It is based on the graphic novel series of the same name, and follows David (Kim), Juno's former partner, who comes out of hiding to save his daughter, Rebecca (portrayed by Reina Hardesty). The back story follows David leaving Rebecca in Juno's care nine years earlier, after one of his missions goes wrong and he has no option but to fake his death. Speaking of character, Perabo said, 'I like how clear Juno's sense of purpose is." 'I always think of her like when you were a kid and you're on the athletic fields and there's this parent on the sidelines who's screaming at their kid and just humiliating them and pushing them. That's who I think Juno is," she added.
