Deepika Padukone Gets Support In Spirit Row, Anurag Basu Says 'I Also Don't Like Long Shifts'
Last Updated: Director Anurag Basu backed Deepika Padukone and said that his actors never complain about long hours. The debate around work-life balance in Bollywood is heating up, especially after reports emerged that Deepika Padukone was removed from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to her requests for an eight-hour workday, profit-sharing, and language flexibility being turned down. Now, director Anurag Basu has backed Deepika's demand for an eight-hour shift. In a recent chat with Firstpost, Anurag Basu said, 'I also don't like long-hour shifts at work. My actors never complain about long hours or stress at work. So, I absolutely agree with what Deepika Padukone had to say. It's a film; I never give my actors a chance to complain about this." 'I want my actors to be very happy on set and know their character well. I don't give too much information to them before the shoot begins. Let them discover their roles, and this is the method I have been following for ages," Anurag said, explaining his process of filmmaking. Previously, Deepika's Chhapaak co-star Vikrant Massey also backed her in a chat with the portal. Vikrant addressed whether such a shift in Bollywood's rigorous shooting culture is realistic. 'I aspire to do something like that very soon. Maybe in a couple of years… I want to go out and say, we can collaborate, but I would only work for eight hours," he shared. However, he was quick to add that it must remain a mutual decision: 'But at the same time, it should be a choice. And if my producer cannot accommodate that, because there are also a lot of other things involved when you are making a film…" 'Money plays a very important role, and I will have to reduce my fees as I will be working for eight hours instead of twelve," he also said. 'If I cannot give my producer twelve hours a day, I cannot go out there and not reduce my fee. I ought to reduce my fee. It's a give-and-take, right?" Talking about the film, Allu recently told News9, 'Yes, it's my twenty-second film, and it's with Atlee garu, who directed Jawaan. We've collaborated on it. I like the concept he told me, and I like his goals; they were similar to mine on many levels, and we aim to present a fresh visual spectacle film to Indian cinema." On the other hand, Deepika Padukone is no longer part of Sandeep Reddy Vanga next big project, Spirit. Prabhas will be seen in the lead role. According to multiple Telugu outlets, including Gulte and Vanga reportedly removed Deepika from the project after repeated clashes over her demands, which were deemed 'unprofessional" by insiders. Deepika allegedly requested an 8-hour workday, which reportedly translated to just about 6 hours of actual shoot time. Things escalated further when the actress is said to have demanded a hefty remuneration along with a percentage of the film's profits.
