Jaguars star Josh Hines-Allen shares major update on his 7-year-old son's cancer battle ahead of key milestone
Hines-Allen previously revealed Wesley's progress at the start of camp last week, but has now revealed more encouraging details about his eldest son's treatment. Specifically, Wesley doesn't have too much more to endure.
'He's doing well,' Hines-Allen told CBS Sports' Pete Prisco. 'He's in full remission right now. We got one more phase right now and then after that, at the end of August, we should be done with all treatment.
'He's doing well,' Hines-Allen continued. 'He's back in school living like a 7-year-old life, which is fun.'
Hines-Allen added that Wesley is already back to 'getting in trouble,' which may be the best indicator of all.
The former Kentucky standout and first-round draft pick has also launched a foundation, Four One For All, which is doing a season-long initiative titled, Four One For Hope, aimed at supporting four cancer-related nonprofits in 2025.
Hines-Allen's oldest boy, Wesley (pictured), was diagnosed with leukemia seven months ago
'We started a foundation last year, Four One Four All,' Hines-Allen said. 'But this year we kind of identified it more to help with childhood cancer awareness.
'We'll be playing and doing things to help families in need and showing our support.'
Hines-Allen also expressed his family's gratitude at all of the supporters they've encountered over the last seven months.
'So many so many prayers have been coming our way and we can feel it,' he said. 'To see the smile on his face, we know that prayer works, so we can can't ask for more.'
Previously Hines-Allen revealed that Wesley is being treated at Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville, where he expects to ring the 'cancer-free' bell.
And, because Wesley is a normal Florida kid, he's been spending his summer outside.
'He's swimming every day,' Hines-Allen said. 'He's running around. He's playing sports.
'He's got back to being the big brother that he is.'
Hines-Allen has reached a pair of Pro Bowls as one of the premiere pass rushers in the AFC with 53 career sacks over six seasons.
He signed a five-year, $141 million deal before the 2024 season that includes $77 million in guarantees.

Lions put CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (shoulder) on IR
August 7 - After Detroit Lions cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. exited Monday's practice with a shoulder injury, coach Dan Campbell warned that the second-year player could be out a while "at best." Indeed that is the case, as the Lions placed Rakestraw on injured reserve after he underwent shoulder surgery on Thursday. As a result, the 2024 second-round pick out of Missouri will miss the entire 2025 season. Prior to his procedure, Rakestraw posted a picture of himself in a hospital gown to his Instagram story with the caption, "Road to Be back starts soon." The shoulder injury was yet another setback for the second-year pro, who was already dealing with a chest contusion suffered during the first day of training camp. His rookie campaign, during which he recorded six tackles across eight games, was also shortened by injuries to his ankle and hamstring. --Field Level Media

Patrick Mahomes has the perfect response to shockingly low Madden rating
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes perfectly responded to a oddly low Madden 26 rating of 95, four points below the highest-rated players in the game. Mahomes did not appear fazed by what most would consider a cheap shot, as the three-time Super Bowl MVP retained his rating from Madden 25. He also stayed ranked as the game's QB No 4, with Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen both given the highest rating of 99, and Joe Burrow two points ahead of Mahomes at 95. There is a severe signal-caller drop-off after Mahomes, with Matthew Stafford's 88 being the fifth-highest Madden 26 rating for quarterbacks. 'I like playing Madden, so I would like to be rated higher,' Mahomes said. 'But I've got to play and showcase that stuff on the field. I believe that if I go out there and play the football I want to play, we can get to 99 pretty quickly.' A 95 in Madden would be a dream come true for most NFL players, as only 22 characters have a higher rating. Mahomes is the second-highest-rated Chief, with defensive tackle Chris Jones receiving a 97. The 29-year-old goes up a spot on Kansas City's roster, as he was the No 3 Chief in Madden 25. Travis Kelce falls from the top Chief to No 5 on the team after dropping from a 99 overall to a 93 in Madden 26. Only seven players were given a 99 overall rating, with the Philadelphia Eagles being the lone team with multiple top-rated players. Both running back Saquon Barkley and offensive lineman Lane Johnson received the 99 overall rating.

49ers GM not expecting Brandon Aiyuk to be ready for Week 1
August 7 - The San Francisco 49ers do not expect to have receiver Brandon Aiyuk on the field for the season-opening game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 7. Aiyuk is battling back from a serious right knee injury that included tears to the ACL and MCL. He was injured in Week 7 of last season. San Francisco general manager John Lynch told KNBR on Thursday that Aiyuk is making progress but the team isn't ready to put a date on his return. "There's just steps that you have to continue to hit and I'll continue to say that Brandon is doing very well in his rehab," Lynch said. "Do we have an exact date right now? No. I don't think it'll be Week 1, but hopefully I'm surprised. We'll see -- continue to watch him work his way through his rehab. But we want him fully healthy. "He had a significant injury, so you have to do a significant rehab. He's doing a really good job with that, and we got to continue to do so." Aiyuk was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list prior to training camp. If he is still on the PUP list at the outset of the season, he will be required to miss at least the first four games. Aiyuk, 27, had 25 receptions for 374 yards and no touchdowns over seven games last season after developing into a star over the previous two campaigns. Aiyuk caught a career-high 78 passes for 1,015 yards and a career-best eight touchdowns in 2022, followed by 75 receptions for a career-high 1,342 yards in 2023. Also, rookie running back Jordan James will miss time after injuring a finger earlier this week. "Jordan James broke his finger, so he's getting surgery on that," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. "He'll be out a couple of weeks." James was a fifth-round pick in April's draft. He rushed for 2,215 yards and 31 touchdowns in three seasons at Oregon. The 49ers also released veteran cornerback Eli Apple on Thursday, a little more than a week after signing him. --Field Level Media
