Sinner avenges Alcaraz to win Wimbledon title for first time

London – Saba: Italian Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title after defeating Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion for the past two years, in the final held on Sunday evening in London. Sinner won the match in three sets to one, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, in three hours and four minutes, claiming his fourth Grand Slam title and avenging his loss to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final last month. The start of the match was tense and cautious from both sides, as each player held serve until Sinner broke Alcaraz's serve in the fifth game, taking advantage of the Spaniard's errors. However, Alcaraz quickly responded in the eighth game, breaking serve and winning the first set 6-4 after an exciting exchange of balls. In the second set, Alcaraz's performance faltered, with unforced errors paving the way for Sinner to break back early and take a 2-0 lead. Despite the Spaniard's attempts to come back, the Italian maintained his advantage and won the set by the same score, 6-4. The third set was evenly matched until the ninth game, when Sinner broke Alcaraz's serve after intense pressure at the net, before also clinching the set, 6-4. Sinner continued his dominance in the fourth set, opening the game with an early break after a backhand smash down the line. Alcaraz attempted to respond in the eighth game but missed two break points due to unforced errors. Sinner then closed out the match on serve, declaring his historic Wimbledon title.
