Orlando Pirates transfer news: Mokwena, Mayele, Mbokazi, Martin
How Orlando Pirates manage the offseason will be crucial to their longevity.
Jose Riveiro's departure means that not only are they on the lookout for rising and established stars in the transfer market, but they are simultaneously dealing with the complex task of finding a new coach. Both are never easy. Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is reportedly on Orlando Pirates' radar, alongside Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin, who had a previous PSL stint with AmaZulu FC.
The Buccaneers entered negotiations with Congolese international Fiston Mayele following his brace against the Soweto giants during the CAF Champions League semi-finals. The 30-year-old striker is said to be entertaining the offer.
Al Ahly, Jose Riveiro's new club, is eyeing teenage sensation Mbekezeli Mbokazi – Orlando Pirates have said they will not listen to any offers.
Club legend Lucky Lekgwathi is adamant that Orlando Pirates must find someone who can do one better than Riveiro: book a CAF Champions League final spot.
'Look I don't have a problem with the coach as long as the coach can come and take this team to another level,' said Lekgwathi.
'Look at [Mamelodi] Sundowns. Rulani left, and they got a new coach. That coach has now won the league, and the coach is in the final of the Champions League.
'We played the semi-finals of the Champions League this season, so next season we need someone who is going to take us to the final and challenge for the league as you know now our problem is in the league where we are not consistent.
'No matter who is coming, we as supporters, we just need to make sure we support him. When Jose came people called him a plumber and he surprised everyone. We supported the plumber and look where the plumber is today.
'He's one of the best coaches to have coached Pirates. That's why I'm saying whoever is coming to coach Orlando Pirates, even if he's a plumber, let's support that plumber or carpenter.

Fighting talk from Philander lights fire under Proteas ahead of Test Championship final
Former Proteas star Vernon Philander's five-fer against England at Lord's is still the stuff of cricketing legend. South African cricket legends shared their experiences of Lord's as they bid the Proteas farewell for the Test Championship final clash against Australia at the hallowed home of cricket, with fighting talk from Vernon Philander sure to have fired them up. The Proteas will take on the defending champions from June 11 to 15. The current crop of players, who will be led into battle by skipper Temba Bavuma, got to hear the inspirational stories, and funny anecdotes, from the likes of former skipper Graham Smith, all-rounder Jaques Kallis and seam bowler Philander. Philander was asked about the iconic five-fer against England at Lord's during the third Test match of the series in 2012. His performance was crucial to South Africa's series victory and their rise to the No 1 spot in the Test team rankings. "It's an amazing place to play cricket ... For me as a player there's so much to soak in. But I do feel that is the moment that we all play for, that's the moment that you want to be counted as a player," he said.

'You have to make the right choice': Bafana coach Broos on Mofokeng's European prospects
A year ago, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos warned of rushing Relebohile Mofokeng to find a club in Europe saying the Orlando Pirates attacker needed at least one more season in the PSL and also to gain experience playing in the Caf Champions League. After announcing his squad to face Tanzania and Mozambique in friendlies early next month the Bafana coach was asked how he now feels about the 20-year-old who had trials with Premier League club Wolves last year. Mofokeng is now a regular at Bafana and was included in the squad to play Tanzania and Mozambique where he will be accompanied by other promising young players from Pirates — Mbezekeli Mbokazi, Simphiwe Selepe and Mohau Nkota. In the season that has just finished, Mofokeng played a huge role in helping Pirates reach the semifinals of the Champions League where he contributed five goals and provided three assists in the 13 games he played. Mofokeng's contributions in the Betway Premiership to help Pirates finish second for a third time in a row were also not bad for someone who is not an out-and-out striker.
