The three SA teams in the United Rugby Championship (URC) quarter-finals face their biggest task of the season this weekend as they line up against top opposition in the first round of the knockout stage.

Dream start for Betway Premiership newcomers
The first weekend of action in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season is done and dusted – and what a weekend it was for two of the newcomers to the top-flight! All 16 teams were in action, and there were six matches which produced winners and two drawn fixtures. A total of 15 goals were scored at just under two per match. It was a great weekend for two of the three newcomers to the top-flight with Siwelele FC beating Golden Arrows 3-1, while Gavin Hunt's Durban City beat TS Galaxy 2-0. Siwelele FC bought SuperSport United during the off-season. Coincidentally, former SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt is now in charge at Durban City. Meanwhile, the third new team, Orbit College, went down narrowly 1-0 to AmaZulu. You would have paid good money to have seen Siwelele at the top of the standings at any point in the season! Somewhat surprisingly, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United while Orlando Pirates went down 1-0 at home against Sekhukhune United. On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs made the perfect start to their campaign, winning 2-0 on the road against Stellenbosch FC. The next matches are scheduled for Tuesday, 12 August. Rassie names Springboks side vs Australia, two surprise picks
Rassie Erasmus has named a strong Springboks side to meet Australia in two Rugby Championship tests on 16 and 23 August. 23-year-old flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is a surprise omission. Mngomezulu starred in South Africa's 33-7 win against Australia in Brisbane almost exactly a year ago but Manie Libbok will wear number 10. Good news for Kaizer Chiefs as PSL DRC delivers ruling on Velebayi
The PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (PSL DRC) has delivered a ruling on the matter between Cape Town Spurs and Asanele Velebayi. Spurs have been refusing to let Velebayi go simply because he was contracted to them before their relegation to the ABC Motsepe League. Their relegation meant all the contracted players are free agents as the ABC Motsepe League is an amateur league. However, Spurs had thought otherwise, and were against the idea of losing their top stars, including Velebayi, for free. The other two are Luke Baartman and Liam Bern who are expected to join Chiefs and AmaZulu respectively. What's left is for Spurs to issue the speedy winger his clearance so that he can complete his four-year deal with Amakhosi. The ruling on the matter involving Baartman and Bern has not yet been delivered, but expectations are that they will also be declared free agents.
