French referee Pierre Brousset to take charge of Leinster's Champions Cup semi against Saints
FRANCE'S PIERRE BROUSSET has been appointed as the referee for Leinster's Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton on Saturday. Brousset, who this year also made his Six Nations bow, will be officiating his first Champions Cup semi-final as Leinster host the Saints at the Aviva Stadium. The 36-year-old refereed Leinster's last-16 victory over Harlequins at Croke Park earlier this month. Advertisement Brousset was once the youngest referee in the French Top 14 but has been entrusted with Test rugby responsibilities in recent seasons. While an injury ruled him out of the 2024 Six Nations, he went on to officiate in last year's Rugby Championship and Autumn Nations Series before taking charge of this year's Calcutta Cup meeting between England and Scotland at Twickenham. Brousset will be assisted at the Aviva by compatriot Luc Ramos and Italy's Gianluca Gnecchi, while Tual Trainini of France will be the TMO. Irish referee Andrew Brace will be the man in the middle for Sunday's Champions Cup semi between top seeds Bordeaux Bègles and reigning champions Toulouse at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux. Limerick man Eoghan Cross will assist Brace alongside England's Christophe Ridley, while Scotland's Mike Adamson will be on TMO duties. Irish referee Andrew Brace. Ben Brady / INPHO Ben Brady / INPHO / INPHO The EPCR have also confirmed that that, for the first time in the Champions Cup, referees' decisions will be broadcast over the stadium PA systems. Supporters in Dublin and Bordeaux will be able to hear the real-time discussions and reasoning behind decisions made between the referee and the TMO. This will again be the case for both the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup finals in Cardiff next month. Referee microphones are already broadcast into stadiums during international fixtures, including in the Six Nations, and are currently being trialled in both the URC and English Premiership. Tony Spreadbury, the EPCR's head of match officials, said: 'Allowing fans to hear how decisions are made on the pitch will enhance the matchday experience and help educate spectators in real time. 'It's an exciting step towards making the game more accessible to newcomers, and we're thrilled to introduce this feature during such a pivotal stage of the competition.'

Live scoring: Bulls v Glasgow Warriors
The Bulls celebrate. Image: @BlueBullsRugby. Home » URC | Live scoring: Bulls v Glasgow Warriors The Bulls celebrate. Image: @BlueBullsRugby. The URC battle between the Bulls and second-placed Glasgow Warriors is expected to be a humdinger given how closely matched the teams are on the table and in terms of their performances this season, with only four log points separating them and both sides being tied on 11 victories in their 15 matches to date. The men from Pretoria can still finish in the top two on the log, should they bag a few good results in their remaining matches, starting in Glasgow. Glasgow Warriors v Bulls Date: Friday, 25 AprilVenue: Scotstoun Stadium, GlasgowSA Time: 20:35Referee: Andrew Brace TV: SuperSport Bulls: 15 Devon Williams, 14 Canan Moodie, 13 David Kriel, 12 Harold Vorster, 11 Sebastian de Klerk, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Embrose Papier, 8 Marco van Staden, 7 Ruan Nortje (captain), 6 Jannes Kirsten, 5 JF van Heerden, 4 Cobus Wiese, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Johann Grobbelaar, 1 Jan-hendrik Wessels. Replacements: 16 Akker van der Merwe, 17 Simphiwe Matanzima, 18 Mornay Smith, 19 Jacobus Grobler, 20 Marcell Coetzee, 21 Keagan Johannes, 22 Willie le Roux, 23 Stedman Gans. Spicing up the clash, memories of the Bulls' heart-breaking 21-16 defeat in last year's Grand Final in Pretoria will still be fresh in their minds – a result they will be determined to avenge. As if that were not enough, second place on the table will be at stake, as a victory for the Bulls, if they win with a bonus point and deny the Warriors a point will see them leapfrog the hosts on the table. While the Glasgow Warriors will do their utmost to make the most of their home ground advantage – especially with the team on a good run this season with only one defeat suffered at the Scotstoun Stadium in the competition so far. Adding to the visitors' motivation, they will enter the match with confidence after making history with a 16-13 victory against Munster in Limerick last week and winning five of their last six matches in the showpiece. All this combined is expected to result in a battle of epic proportions. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. URC: Playoff permutations for all four SA teams
With the URC well and truly entering the business end, the four SA teams continue to pin their hopes on victories to stay in the race for quarter-final spots or the best possible log positions with only three rounds of pool matches remaining. While the Bulls (in third position with 54 points) and Sharks (in fourth place with 49 points) will be resolute in their quest to maintain their standing in the top four as they hunt home quarter-finals, the Stormers (in eighth position with 40 points) will give everything to remain in the top eight, which could require winning all three remaining round-robin matches. The Lions, meanwhile, are under immense pressure to win their match to keep their faint playoff hopes alive after suffering five successive defeats in the competition. The Bulls will kick-start the action on Friday against the Glasgow Warriors in Pretoria in a repeat of last year's Grand Final – only this time in Scotland – while Saturday will be action-packed as the Lions host Connacht in Johannesburg, the Stormers welcome Benetton to Cape Town, and the Sharks take on Ulster in Belfast. The battle between the Bulls and second-placed Glasgow Warriors is expected to be a humdinger given how closely matched the teams are on the table and in terms of their performances this season, with only four log points separating them and both sides being tied on 11 victories in their 15 matches to date. The men from Pretoria can still finish in the top two on the log, should they bag a few good results in their remaining matches, starting in Glasgow. Watch: Palestinian flag flown over Twickenham
The second half of England's Six Nations victory over Italy was ambushed by a drone trailing a Palestinian flag over the top of Allianz Stadium. Towards the end of the round-four win over the Azzurri, a flying object entered the airspace over Twickenham and descended beneath the top of the stands, with the game still taking place beneath. The players and referee Andrew Brace were oblivious to the drone hovering above them and the game was never stopped, with the object flying off in a north-westerly direction after lingering for roughly a minute. At one stage, the drone descended to a point which was almost level with the stadium's spider cam, the wired aerial camera that manoeuvres above the Twickenham turf. It is understood that security at Twickenham had constant eyes on the drone and were monitoring its presence. Its appearance does raise the question of whether stadiums should follow the lead of airports and install jamming technology. The incident marks the second time this weekend that British sporting activity has been affected by Pro-Palestinian activists. On Saturday, Palestine Action targeted Donald Trump's Scottish golf course, Turnberry, spray-painting the clubhouse, digging up greens, and daubing 'Gaza is not for sale' on the course in 10ft-high white letters. Although it remains unclear whether Palestine Action was responsible for the Twickenham drone, the group on Saturday said in a statement that its Turnberry protest came 'as a direct response to the US administration's stated intent to ethnically cleanse Gaza'. The appearance of the drone is the first known security breach at the home of English rugby since Just Stop Oil activists interrupted the 2023 Premiership final with orange paint bombs. Two men were later charged with aggravated trespass.
