The URC battle between the Bulls and second-placed Glasgow Warriors is expected to be a humdinger given how closely matched the teams are on the table and in terms of their performances this season, with only four log points separating them and both sides being tied on 11 victories in their 15 matches to date.
The men from Pretoria can still finish in the top two on the log, should they bag a few good results in their remaining matches, starting in Glasgow.
Glasgow Warriors v Bulls
Date: Friday, 25 AprilVenue: Scotstoun Stadium, GlasgowSA Time: 20:35Referee: Andrew Brace
TV: SuperSport
Bulls: 15 Devon Williams, 14 Canan Moodie, 13 David Kriel, 12 Harold Vorster, 11 Sebastian de Klerk, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Embrose Papier, 8 Marco van Staden, 7 Ruan Nortje (captain), 6 Jannes Kirsten, 5 JF van Heerden, 4 Cobus Wiese, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Johann Grobbelaar, 1 Jan-hendrik Wessels.
Replacements: 16 Akker van der Merwe, 17 Simphiwe Matanzima, 18 Mornay Smith, 19 Jacobus Grobler, 20 Marcell Coetzee, 21 Keagan Johannes, 22 Willie le Roux, 23 Stedman Gans.
Spicing up the clash, memories of the Bulls' heart-breaking 21-16 defeat in last year's Grand Final in Pretoria will still be fresh in their minds – a result they will be determined to avenge.
As if that were not enough, second place on the table will be at stake, as a victory for the Bulls, if they win with a bonus point and deny the Warriors a point will see them leapfrog the hosts on the table.
While the Glasgow Warriors will do their utmost to make the most of their home ground advantage – especially with the team on a good run this season with only one defeat suffered at the Scotstoun Stadium in the competition so far.
Adding to the visitors' motivation, they will enter the match with confidence after making history with a 16-13 victory against Munster in Limerick last week and winning five of their last six matches in the showpiece. All this combined is expected to result in a battle of epic proportions.

Sekhukhune, Pumas show it can pay to back a longshot

Punters can beat the odds if they think smartly and spot value. Underdogs are still alive and kicking in sport, even in this era of professionalism, data and algorithms. A couple of shock results in high-profile matches at the weekend proved it. Sekhukhune United rocked mighty Orlando Pirates 1-0 in a Betway Premiership opening fixture to gladden the hearts of neutrals, their fans in Limpopo and those punters brave enough to chance a few rands on them. Sekhukhune were at 6.00 for the away win (with Pirates at 1.48 and the draw at 3.40), long odds for a contest between two sides in the same league. The betting board told a story: last year's league runners-up Pirates had the player strength, home fan support and historical aura to make short work of upstarts Sekhukhune. But there was subtext to this story, which a few clever punters managed to decipher: Pirates had a new coach and seven new players, leaving them vulnerable to disjointedness and a smash-and-grab from a well-organised team that has been on an upward trajectory for a couple of years. Over in Pretoria, in rugby's Currie Cup, home side the Bulls (1.01) were hot favourites to beat the Pumas (10.00). Again, the signal from the data analysts and odds-setters was that it would be one-way traffic. And it was. Just not the way they thought it would be! The Pumas steamrollered their fancied opponents 41-7. Again, smart followers of the game might have seen that the visitors were a mature, settled outfit, while the Bulls – also with a new coach – fielded youth and brilliance but relative inexperience in the trenches of an ultra-tough battlefield. Lesson learnt? Successfully backing outsiders is not easy and looking to beat the odds shouldn't be any bettor's only strategy. But an eye should always be kept open for the value gap. If odds are long, a wager can be modest yet yield a pleasing return.

Bring on the brannas: Pollard becomes face of new brandy

Handre Pollard has become the latest Springbok to front a boozy beverage – a brandy, aptly called Invictus. The famous flyhalf recently returned to the Bulls after playing abroad for the past five years. On his Instagram, Handre Pollard revealed that he had become the official face of the Invictus VSOP Cape Brandy, which recently launched in Checkers Liquor stores around the country. In a funny clip, the flyhalf was seen surprising Checkers shoppers whilst in disguise. After winning his second consecutive Rugby World Cup, Pollard and many of his Springbok pals celebrated their victory with their favourite drinks. Pollard's drink of choice was brandy – or 'brannas en coke' – which he downed in copious amounts. Handre Pollard and Willie Le Roux look worse for wear during Springbok Rugby World Cup celebrations. Here are others… Trevor Nyakane – Nyakane Gin According to The Noblex, the Springboks prop developed his gin as a 'lockdown hobby.' Steven Kitshoff – Bomb Squad Lager Playing on his famous membership to the Boks' 'Bomb Squad,' Steven developed the beer alongside teammate Malcolm Marx. The boozy beverage was launched just weeks before the kick-off of the Rugby World Cup. They said of their motivation: 'We love a second half…It tastes of victory'. Percy Montgomery – El Centurion 102 Tequila Springbok Old Boy launched his own range of tequila in 2021. The blonde iconic player donates a portion of his proceeds to underprivileged communities.
