Armed suspect barricades inside Los Angeles home, forcing local school to relocate instruction for the day
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the 14000 block of Gruen Street in the neighborhood of Arleta at about 12:50 a.m. on reports of a suspect who threatened a family member with a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the suspect was alone inside the home and was allegedly still armed with at least one gun.
Officers with the LAPD SWAT unit arrived around 4 a.m.
As of 7:30 a.m., the situation was still active.
The administration at nearby Beachy Elementary School issued a statement confirming that access to campus was restricted Monday morning. Administrators asked parents to instead bring their children to Canterbury Elementary School in time for the school day's 8 a.m. start. Canterbury is about 1.3 miles away from Beachy.
"The Beachy Elementary School campus will be closed until further notice," the statement reads. "However, our teachers and support staff will be available at Canterbury Elementary School to support your student's instructional needs. We will also have school mental health on site to support."
No additional details were immediatley made available.

Bicyclist dead after hit-and-run in South Los Angeles; police search for driver
A man is dead after being hit while riding his bike in South Los Angeles on Monday morning. The Los Angeles Police Department said they received calls around 1:30 a.m. about a man who was in the roadway near San Pedro and 95th Streets. They said a man in his 60s was riding his bike through the area when he was hit by a car. The driver then fled the scene. The man was pronounced dead by first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Police do not have any suspect description and are working to review surveillance footage from nearby homes.

3 police officers shot, wounded while responding to call in Utah; man taken into custody
Three police officers were injured in a shooting in a northern Utah city and a man was taken into custody, police said. The officers were responding to a disturbance call late Sunday in a neighborhood in Tremonton. The extent of their injuries and their conditions weren't immediately known. "Upon arrival, they immediately began taking fire," Police Detective Crystal Beck of neighboring Brigham City told reporters. "They requested additional units. And then stopped answering their radio." Beck said once additional police arrived, "they were able to locate the subject of the shooting and take him into custody." Beck confirmed that multiple agencies, including a SWAT team, from three counties responded to the scene. Beck said she did not have the suspect's name but said he is in custody at the Box Elder County Jail. She said there was no threat to the public. Beck said the officers were injured but had no information on their conditions. She said no citizens were injured. "I think it leaves a big impact when any officer is involved in something like this," Beck said. "It affects not only the officers here in our community but also all over Utah, all over the nation." Tremonton, which has about 10,000 people, is about 75 miles north of Salt Lake City.
