One year of Naidu govt in Andhra Pradesh: Impressive welfare amid concerns
VIJAYAWADA: The TDP-led NDA, which not only achieved a 93% strike rate in the 2024 elections but also saw alliance candidates winning by huge margins against the YSRCP, is set to complete its first year in office on June 12, following the formation of the coalition government.
Going by the mandate, it is clear that the people had high expectations from the new government. But has it succeeded in fulfilling those aspirations?
Given the precarious financial situation the coalition inherited at the outset, it must be acknowledged that fulfilling all promises within a year was no easy task. However, the government, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, did manage to increase pensions from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 in its first month in office, in addition to paying Rs 3,000 in arrears to each beneficiary.
Similarly, under Deepam-2 scheme, the government began delivering three free LPG cylinders annually to women. Alongside the re-establishment of Anna Canteens to feed the poor, financial aid to fishermen during the fishing ban period was enhanced to Rs 20,000 from Rs 10,000 under the 'Mathsyakara Bharosa' scheme.
The State government has also issued orders for the implementation of another flagship scheme, 'Talliki Vandanam,' under which Rs 15,000 will be credited to the accounts of mothers of school-going children starting June 12, 2025.
Additionally, the State government has announced that free bus travel scheme for the women will also be implement from August 15 onwards.

Stepping up its attack on the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Government over what it termed its 'anti-poor policies', the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced a mass protest against the demolition of slum clusters in the national Capital. AAP Delhi unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the party will lead a major demonstration at Jantar Mantar on June 29 at 10 AM, demanding justice for lakhs of slum dwellers. Bharadwaj accused the BJP-led Delhi government of betraying the urban poor. 'The BJP promised 'Jaha Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan' but is instead bulldozing people's homes without providing alternative housing', he said. He also cited the tragic incident in Bawana where a fire in a slum killed two children and pointed out that no minister or MLA visited the site. 'Shockingly just two days later, bulldozers were sent to demolish the entire cluster', he alleged, questioning if the fire was part of a larger conspiracy. Bharadwaj also highlighted the demolition of over 800 homes in the historic Madarasi Camp, where generations of Tamil families have lived for decades, despite holding housing guarantee cards. He challenged the ruling BJP to bring a law in Parliament to protect slums. 'The BJP cannot hide behind court rulings. They are not going to the Supreme Court nor making laws to save the poor,' he said. Calling for unity, he appealed to all the slum dwellers to join the June 29 protest and expose the BJP's 'bulldozer politics' before the nation. It is worthy to note here that the issue of slum demolitions has become a problematic one for the BJP as both the AAP and Congress have been criticising the ruling party for failing to protect the slum dwellers in the national Capital. Bharadwaj's attack came as authorities launched a demolition drive in the Bhoomiheen camp in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area on June 11 morning, amid heavy police deployment. However, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had said on June 8 that the authorities cannot go against demolition orders issued by the courts and stressed that the displaced residents have been provided accommodation.

For this, the Indian Government has approved Rs 67,000 crore deal for the procurement of 97 additional Tejas MK-1A fighter jets in the financial year 2026-27. This contract which is likely to be finalised by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), will strengthen the role of indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas fighter jet as the backbone of the IAF. As per a report published by Moneycontrol, the deal which is following the 48,000 crore contract which was signed back in February 2021 for 83 Tejas MK-1A jets, will induct a total of 180 fighter jets in the IAF fleet. This will significantly enhance IAF's combat capabilities. It is worth noting that the Tejas MK-1A is manufactured by HAL and is being designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA, is a modern multirole fighter aircraft which is loaded with modern technology, Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, and beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile capabilities. These features of the Tejas makes a perfect replacement of ageing MiG-21, Jaguars.

Mangaluru: Shobha Karandlaje, the Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour & Employment, spoke to the press, celebrating the transformative impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past decade. Reflecting on his 11 years as Prime Minister and prior 13 years as Gujarat's Chief Minister, she praised PM Modi's commitment to reshaping India into a global powerhouse. Karandlaje emphasised that Modi's 2014 election was a turning point for a nation frustrated with the previous Congress-led UPA government. 'The people wanted a leader who could deliver,' she said. She challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to address what she called 'baseless allegations' and focus on governance.
