India thrives under Modi's leadership: Karandlaje
Mangaluru: Shobha Karandlaje, the Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour & Employment, spoke to the press, celebrating the transformative impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past decade. Reflecting on his 11 years as Prime Minister and prior 13 years as Gujarat's Chief Minister, she praised PM Modi's commitment to reshaping India into a global powerhouse. Karandlaje emphasised that Modi's 2014 election was a turning point for a nation frustrated with the previous Congress-led UPA government.
'The people wanted a leader who could deliver,' she said. 'Modi brought a clear agenda. A corruption-free administration, global stature for India, robust development, and uncompromised security.' According to her, these promises have been fulfilled. Addressing claims by Karnataka's state government that the central government has withheld funds, Karandlaje presented figures. She claimed that Karnataka received Rs. 1.44 lakh crore from 2004 to 2014 to 2014, compared to Rs. 5.42 lakh crore between 2014 and 2024, which is a 275% surge. She challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to address what she called 'baseless allegations' and focus on governance.

Supriya Sule rules out alliance with Ajit Pawar or BJP in upcoming municipal elections
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule has ruled out any alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming municipal elections. Sule is on a tour of Pune district during which she visited newly-appointed municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to discuss various issues related to her Lok Sabha (LS) constituency, Baramati. Sule told media persons: 'In a democracy, there should be dialogue. We should meet all party leaders and this is Maharashtra's tradition. But in the coming elections, we will never go with the BJP.' Recently, state president of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, Sunil Tatkare, had said, 'We have entered an alliance with the BJP and we will remain with them. If someone wants to join us, they should accept this principle.' Whereas the city president of the NCP (SP), Prashant Jagtap, said, 'Supriya Sule has made it clear that there will be no alliance with the BJP or Ajit Pawar-led party. We are prepared to contest the municipal elections and ready to face them.' For the last few weeks, there have been rumours about the likelihood of both NCP factions coming together. Recently however, both parties celebrated 'Foundation Day' in Pune, sending out a clear message that there will be no merger of the two factions. It is now clear that the two NCP factions will contest the upcoming civic elections separately and against each other.

Centre asks for measurable socio-economic benefits reports from highway development
The Union government has tasked all highway development agencies with preparing detailed impact assessments and outcome reports for all highway augmentation projects, including stretches under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase, to map the measurable socio-economic benefits arising from any new or expansion projects. These metrics from the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) include reduced travel time, fuel efficiency, expenditure reduction, riding and driving comfort, and user satisfaction, which will be used to measure the outcome in terms of economic impact, logistics impact, social Impact, environment impact, road safety and user experience. Also Read: Cube Highways Trust completes acquisition of 2 J&K highways from NIIF The MoRTH has issued a circular specifying the metrics that have to be studied and the outcome report that needs to be prepared by the heads of highway development agencies. The circular has been sent to all chief secretaries of states, chairman of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), managing director of National Highway and Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), director general Border Roads Organisation, Secretary General of Indian Roads Congress, etc. 'As per the CCEA approval for Bharatmala Pariyojana, the outcome parameters for the corridors/projects being implemented under Bharatmala Pariyojana i.e., reduction in time of travel, fuel efficiency, expenditure reduction, comfort in riding, user satisfaction, etc. have to be finalised. This is in keeping with the objective of ensuring that public investments yield measurable socio-economic benefits," said the Morth circular. The mechanism for monitoring outcome parameters of all capacity-augmentation projects, including the projects sanctioned under Bharatmala Pariyojana I, to be measured periodically at different intervals, has been finalised to measure the impact area, the circular added. Mapping connectivity The new framework for outcome measurement suggests that the economic impact of road projects will be studied, including both the direct and indirect impacts on macroeconomic indicators. This includes assessing whether the project provides connectivity to economic nodes within 25 km. All these would also be assessed in terms of an increase in gross domestic product (GDP) and an increase in consumer spending that results in a pick-up in automobile sales. MoRTH has also asked its agencies to conduct surveys and assess the logistics impact of a highway project, meaning whether the alignment is reducing overall logistics costs and saving distance and travel time. The social impact assessment for highway alignment will require agencies to study whether a road alignment improves connectivity to education hubs for the population living within 10 km of a highway and whether the network is improving in the movement of population to their workplaces, which will also impact overall household income. As per the circular, road development agencies would also study a project's outcome in terms of its impact on the environment and whether the road stretch provides a better and safer user experience. In this regard, projects would be studied in terms of their ability to reduce carbon dioxide emissions while improving fuel efficiency and user experience in terms of riding comfort. Flyover connecting North Delhi and Ghaziabad: PWD to carry out feasibility study
To provide smooth connectivity between North Delhi and Ghaziabad, the Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed an integrated transit corridor development project. The department has invited bids to carry out a feasibility study for constructing a 6-km-long elevated corridor under this project, starting from Nanaksar Gurudwara T-Point in Northeast Delhi's Sonia Vihar Pusta Road to the Delhi-UP corridor near Tronica City. According to officials, the stretch currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC), but as the PWD is the expert agency executing roads and flyovers, the department will hire an agency to carry out the feasibility study. Currently, the 6-km-long stretch is plagued by encroachment by the roadside and traffic snarls caused by vehicles, e-rickshaws, and pedestrian footfall. 'It was a long-pending request from residents… development of an elevated corridor will ease traffic movement for commuters and residents… The stretch passes through a densely populated area, which also has a market… Also, there are trees on both sides of Pushta Road… a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) underground water pipeline also falls on the route… all of this will be taken into consideration during the study,' said officials. The DJB's Sonia Vihar treatment plant is located near the alignment of the proposed flyover. In April, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, along with Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, inspected the stretch and announced the project. Officials said it is likely to cost approximately Rs 500 crore.
