Bradley Beal and the Phoenix Suns are quietly finalizing a move no one saw coming
After two seasons filled with injuries and lackluster play, Bradley Beal is close to a major separation from the Phoenix Suns. Behind the scenes, both sides are negotiating a deal that will alter the team's salary cap situation—while fans are left guessing what will happen next.
With over $110 million still owed on his contract and various playoff teams eyeing him, this is more than just a simple trade—it marks a crucial juncture for Beal's career and the Suns' future.
The unseen deal that could shift Phoenix's entire offseason strategy
Word on the street is that the Phoenix Suns and Bradley Beal are on the verge of wrapping up a buyout for his remaining $110.8 million over the next two seasons. Beal is likely to give up at least $14 million to make this deal happen. If he does, it would be a groundbreaking move—far beyond anything we've seen in previous NBA buyouts.
Phoenix is on the verge of falling below the second luxury-tax apron, a point that would allow them to fully utilize the Mid-Level Exception (MLE) and steer clear of severe tax penalties. For the Suns, the benefits go beyond just finances—it's a tactical decision. They'll have the ability to bring in more talent to surround Devin Booker and gather draft assets. For Beal, it means a smooth exit and a chance to showcase himself without a burdensome contract looming over him.

Beal's arrival in the summer of 2023 came with huge expectations. He was set to join forces with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to build the next West Coast superteam. However, the results didn't match the hype—Beal averaged just 17.6 PPG over two seasons, dealt with injuries, and missed more than 60 games each year. The Suns didn't make it past the first round and fell to 11th in the West in 2024–25, which called for a total rethink.
Now that Durant was traded in June and Beal is about to follow, Phoenix is basically closing the book on this chapter before it becomes a drawn-out tale of cap problems. While Beal considers paying $14 million to leave, he's got plenty of suitors. Reports say at least five teams are interested: the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets, all ready to provide him with a new platform.
Teams are aiming to sign him at a low cost—probably significantly below his previous salary—and refresh their bench or wing rotation. Beal's numbers for 2024–25 were pretty good: 17.0 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 3.7 APG, with strong shooting stats (49.7% FG, 38.6% 3P).

With free agency on the horizon and teams eyeing their options, this low-key split could send waves throughout the league. Get ready: as soon as Beal becomes unrestricted, the offseason excitement will really take off.

Liam Livingstone baffled by England teammate's fat-shaming dig at The Hundred, makes him regret with death-over carnage
Liam Livingstone produced a blistering match-winning display in the Hundred that came with an unexpected sledge from his friend, which followed a revenge in the end. The Birmingham Phoenix star hammered an unbeaten 69 off just 27 balls to lead his side to their first win of the season, toppling defending champions Oval Invincibles in dramatic fashion at Edgbaston on Saturday. Liam Livingstone during The Hundred match against Oval Invincibles.(X) Livingstone revealed that his close friend and England teammate Tom Curran didn't spare him during the game, stating that the all-rounder fat-shamed him. 'I have no idea why Tom started to spray me,' Livingstone told BBC Two. 'He is one of my good friends and he called me a fat slob or something so I thought 'let's hope you don't go for a few if you come back at the death' and he did so I'm kind of happy with that.' Curran's words came back to haunt him in the penultimate set of five deliveries. With Phoenix needing 22 off the final 10 balls, he returned to bowl the 91-95 ball stretch and was dispatched for two sixes, a four, a two and a single; 19 runs in all, leaving just three needed from the last five deliveries. Despite a couple of late wickets, the target was comfortably chased down, sealing a four-wicket win. 'Very special, we needed it,' Livingstone said at the post-match presentation. 'They're a great team, won it two years in a row. Nice to get one over them and hopefully give us some momentum. [The approach was to] try and get used to the pitch and use the bounce, try and take down their spinners. I back myself if bowlers miss, I can hit, and thankfully it came off.' Livingstone smashing Rashid Khan A defining moment of Livingstone's knock came against one of the world's premier bowlers, Rashid Khan. The England batter smashed 26 runs in just five balls off the Afghan leg-spinner – three sixes and two fours – making him the first player in T20 history (the Hundred is classified under the format for statistical purposes) to score more than 200 career runs against Rashid. 'I've got a pretty good record just by stepping across and slogging him. It's worked in the past. I can't pick him so just try to do it that way,' Livingstone admitted. The Phoenix, who had been languishing at the bottom of the table, now hope this performance can serve as a turning point in their campaign. Still, the all-rounder was quick to acknowledge that there is room for improvement. 'We let ourselves down a bit in the field. Something we don't want to do. Great win, got ourselves back into the tournament,' he said.

‘You Can't Pick And Choose Matches': Mohammed Azharuddin Criticises Bumrah's Limited Test Appearances
Jasprit Bumrah's workload management has once again sparked debate in Indian cricket. The star fast bowler played only 3 of the 5 Tests in the recent India vs England series, missing the matches in Edgbaston and The Oval to manage his fitness. Despite his absence, India won both games, with Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna stepping up. Bumrah's reduced participation comes after a serious back injury that kept him out for a long time following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The team management and Bumrah had decided beforehand that he would feature in only three matches to avoid excessive strain. Azharuddin: Players Cannot Pick and Choose Matches Former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin has voiced strong disapproval of this approach. Speaking to Mid-Day, Azharuddin said a player should be available for every match once selected. 'If there is an injury issue, then the Board and the player have to decide. However, I feel once you are in the team, you can't pick and choose your matches,' Azharuddin said. He stressed that representing the country requires full commitment, even if workload management is important. Others Stepped Up in Bumrah's Absence India's bowling unit handled Bumrah's absence remarkably well. Siraj played all 5 Tests, collecting 16 wickets in the two matches Bumrah missed. Akash Deep claimed a 10-wicket haul at Edgbaston, while Prasidh Krishna took 8 wickets at The Oval. Azharuddin noted that India was 'fortunate' that the rest of the attack delivered match-winning performances. 'There is workload, but at this level, you have to manage it. You are playing for the country,' he added. 'What happens if India needs Bumrah badly in a particular situation?' Bumrah is set to return in the Asia Cup 2025 starting next month. India's next Test series will be against the West Indies at home. With workload concerns likely to continue, head coach Gautam Gambhir will face the challenge of keeping Bumrah fit while ensuring he plays in key matches.

'He Called Me A Fat...': Liam Livingstone Reveals Tom Curran's Nasty Sledge
Last Updated: Liam Livingstone has revealed that Tom Curran weight-shamed him during The Hundred. Tom Curran called Liam Livingstone a 'fat slob or something' during Birmingham Phoenix's four-wicket win over Oval Invincibles in the Hundred men's competition on Saturday. Livingstone, who put up a Player of the Match performance with a blazing fifty, said he didn't expect his 'good friend' to go that route. Curran's sledge backfired. He came to bowl the penultimate five deliveries of the innings (91-95) when Phoenix needed 22 off 10 runs and got smacked for two sixes, a four, a double and a single. It left them needing just three runs which, despite losing two more wickets, the Phoenix chased down. 'I have no idea why Tom started to spray me," Livingstone told BBC Two. 'He is one of my good friends and he called me a fat slob or something so I thought 'let's hope you don't go for a few if you come back at the death' and he did so I'm kind of happy with that," he added. Livingstone remained unbeaten for 69 off 27 to get them to their first win of the season and lift them up from last place in the points table. 'Very special, we needed it," Livingstone said earlier in the post-match presentation. 'They're a great team, won it two years in a row. Nice to get one over them and hopefully give us some momentum. [The approach was to] try and get used to the pitch and use the bounce, try and take down their spinners. I back myself if bowlers miss, I can hit, and thankfully it came off." A major feature of Livingstone's knock was his 26 runs off five balls against the world-class Rashid Khan, including three sixes and two fours. He became the first player ever in T20s (the Hundred is considered under T20s for statistical purposes) to hit more than 200 runs against the leggie. 'I've got a pretty good record just by stepping across and slogging him. It's worked in the past. I can't pick him so just try to do it that way. We let ourselves down a bit in the field. Something we don't want to do. Great win, got ourselves back into the tournament," Livingstone added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
