Parthiv Patel brings IPL experience to Outer Delhi Warriors as mentor for DPL season 2

India Today5 days ago
Former Indian wicketkeeper and batter Parthiv Patel is set to don a new hat this time as the mentor of Outer Delhi Warriors, the newest entrant in Delhi Premier League (DPL) Season 2. With a squad full of young and promising talent, including the likes of IPL stars Priyansh Arya and Suyash Sharma, the veteran cricketer is ready to channel his rich experience into shaping the next generation of Delhi-based cricketers.advertisementIn the modern cricketing world, success isn't just about skills with the bat or ball, it's also about how well a team works together. That's where man management comes in. Whether it's lifting a player's confidence after a rough patch or knowing when to give someone space, good man management can be the difference between a team that plays for each other and one that falls apart under pressure.'You talk about established teams. But here, the platform is different and cricketers are at different stages of their professional journey. It is extremely important to understand the mindset of every cricketer,' Patel, on being questioned about the importance of efficient man management for young cricketers, told India Today.
Patel also stressed on the need to create an environment where players can express themselves freely, without feeling too restricted.'It is essential to provide a platform where players are able to express themselves fully without crossing the line, and that is what we will try to do here,' he added.Mantra to hold dressing room togetherThe 40-year-old also pointed out that while many talented players go unsold at the auction table, those who have been picked have made it to the stage on account of their potential. 'Every cricketer is young, and if they have reached here, it means that they have certain capabilities. The ones we have grabbed, we would try to bring the best out of them, and for the same, the role of the support staff is of vital importance,' he said. When asked about the one mantra that can hold a dressing room together, Patel kept it simple, 'It's about keeping it light, keeping it happy, and making sure that you don't judge anyone. Everyone has their own way of preparing, so it's important to keep a flexible mindset.'Having worked with two of the most well-structured franchises in the IPL, Mumbai Indians – renowned for their sharp talent scouting, and Gujarat Titans – praised for their orthodox yet astute style in T20I setup, Patel has seen what it takes to build a winning unit from the ground up. As the Warriors embark on their maiden DPL journey, he could very well be the key architect in building a strong team.- EndsMust Watch

'There are going to be shots taken at me': Shubman Gill gives smashing reply after his captaincy credentials doubted

Shubman Gill, on Monday, gave a fitting reply to his critics after leading India to a famous win at The Oval, which helped the visitors level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series 2-2. India defeated a Ben Stokes-less England by six runs as Mohammed Siraj claimed a five-wicket haul on the final morning under overcast London skies, bowling the hosts out for 396. India's captain Shubman Gill acknowledges the crowd after India won the fifth Test match against England, at The Oval cricket ground(PTI) The selection committee's decision to name the young Gill as India's new Test captain for such a crucial tour, ahead of a few experienced alternatives, had raised quite a few eyebrows. The 25-year-old has since been under the scanner, with experts and critics dissecting each of his decisions throughout the series. Team selection was among the biggest criticisms he faced. Even ahead of the series decider in London, Gill was questioned for not picking enough wicket-taking options, instead choosing to strengthen the batting line-up with the inclusion of Karun Nair. ALSO READ: Gautam Gambhir mobbed in Team India's dressing room after Oval stunner, unleashes raw emotions upon seeing Shubman Gill Speaking to the media after the Oval win, Gill said he understood the criticism around team selection, especially not picking a fourth pacer, but stood by his choices, stressing that Nair vindicated the call with his crucial fifty — and while he knew backlash would've followed had India lost, he was at peace knowing the decision was made in the team's best interest. 'You keep learning every day, because I learnt a lot from Day 1 in the series, till the last day. There were a lot of people there should have been a fourth fast bowler, but the guy who played instead of the fourth bowler. Karun's fifty in the first innings was equally important for us, which took us to a decent total. Such opinions will keep forming, especially in hindsight, after the match gets completed. But you got to weigh in what is important for you at that moment. We felt three fast bowlers will get the job done for us and they delivered. When decisions go your way, people will praise you, but had it not gone India's way, I am aware that shots would have been taken at me and I am fine with that because at the end of the day I know I made the decision with was best for the team,' he said. Nair makes most of 'third chance' Nair returned to the Indian team after eight years, earning a call-up on the back of a record-breaking domestic season. However, he failed to impress in the first three Tests, managing just 133 runs with a solitary half-century, and was subsequently dropped for the fourth Test in Manchester. While many believed it marked the end of Nair's 'second chance' in international cricket, he was recalled for the series finale, where he scored a gritty 109-ball 57 to help India post a first-innings total of 224. England managed only a 23-run lead, riding on fifties from Zak Crawley and Harry Brook, before India set them a challenging 374-run target, powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal's century. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna then wreaked havoc, sharing nine wickets between them, as England fell short by just six runs.

The post quickly earned support from Indian cricket fans. "Wasim Bhai waited for this so long," joked one user. Another added, 'This tweet will go in history as the greatest banter of all time. And for you @MichaelVaughan you truly deserve this trolling, every part of it.' "Bhai sahab yha alag hi series chal rhi thi. Aur Wasim Bhai series draw nhi jeet gye 5-0. (Brother, there was a whole different series going on here. And Wasim Bhai didn't just draw the series, he won it 5–0)," a third user. Others used memes to poke fun at Vaughan. "The way Wasim bhai lights up at Vaughan's name… it's like kids hearing the school's final bell!" said one of them. "I hope you are fine and your heart is still healthy and has recovered from the match for ages," said one Indian fan, commenting on Vaughan's post. India pulled off a stunning win at The Oval on Monday, edging out England by six runs in a dramatic finish to the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
