Hyderabad: 'Be the person that someone or the other will look up to', is the mantra that won Thailand's Opal SuchataChuangsri her Miss World crown at the star-studded 72nd Miss World contest here on Saturday. She became her country's first Miss World.
'I always believe that no matter who you are and no matter how old you are, no matter what title you hold in your life, there is always a person next to you -- whether it's a child, whether it's an adult, it could even be your own parents -- that look up to you in a way.
And the best way to lead people is to lead with their gracefulness in your actions. That is the best thing we can do to the people around us and in our world,' said the 72nd Miss World.
She was replying to a question by one of the judges, Sonu Sood. Sood wanted to know what her Miss World journey taught her about the truth and personal responsibility in shaping how the stories are told. Incidentally, according to the Miss World website, Chuangsri was crowned Miss World Thailand 2025 on April 22, just a week before she departed to Hyderabad to participate in the 72nd edition of the Miss World. She has also represented her country in Miss Universe 2024, finishing third runner-up.
Miss World first runner-up Hasset Dereje from Ethiopia is the first ever from her country too to have reached this far in the Miss World contest. Ethiopia started sending representatives from 2003 onwards, according to the Miss World website. Answering a member of the jury, actor Rana Daggubati's question on what it means to be a beauty queen, Dereje said she holds 'so much pride' in being the first in her country to come this far.

These 3 Miss Worlds Entered Bollywood - Two Pregnant Before Marriage, 3rd Created Bigger Buzz

That year, Lara Dutta became Miss Universe on May 12 in Nicosia, Cyprus. Dia Mirza, runner-up at Miss India 2000, went on to win the Miss Asia Pacific crown. Priyanka Chopra claimed the Miss World title. By 2003, all three had entered Hindi cinema as Dia debuted with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (2001), and Lara and Priyanka arriving together in Andaaz opposite Akshay Kumar. (News18 Hindi) Recalling those early days, Dia once said in an interview that she had entered the industry with Priyanka and Lara. "Priyanka had family support, but Lara and I were short of money. She invited me to stay in her small apartment. Many nights, dinner was just noodles," she said. (News18 Hindi) Success came quickly for Priyanka and Lara with their first film, while Dia struggled through a string of flops. Yet it was in their personal lives that headlines grew more dramatic. Dia married producer Sahil Sangha in 2014 after meeting him in 2009. The two divorced by mutual consent, and in February 2021 she wed businessman Vaibhav Rekhi, announcing her pregnancy shortly afterward. (News18 Hindi) Lara, meanwhile, had a nine-year relationship with model-actor Kelly Dorji before marrying tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi in 2011. Bhupathi, who divorced Shweta Jaishankar before the wedding, became a father just months later when Lara confirmed her pregnancy. Industry whispers often linked her fading Bollywood career to relationship distractions. (News18 Hindi) Priyanka's trajectory was different. She delivered box office hits like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Krrish, Don, Barfi!, and Bajirao Mastani. But in 2018, at the height of her stardom, she surprised many by marrying American singer Nick Jonas in Udaipur and relocating to the US. Rumours in the film industry suggested her exit was hastened by a fallout with Gauri Khan amid speculation about her friendship with Shah Rukh Khan, a controversy that reportedly cost her projects. Manushi Chillar was papped at the Mumbai airport ahead of jetting off to an undisclosed destination. Manushi Chhillar recently charmed everyone with her smile and casual vibe when she was spotted at the Mumbai airport this morning. The Miss World 2017, known for her notable roles in films like Samrat Prithviraj and Maalik, yet again captivated her fans with her minimal yet chic glam. The actress was, however, also seen shielding her skin from the hot and humid weather with the perfect accessories. In a video posted on Instagram, Manushi Chhillar was seen exiting her swanky four-wheeler as she walked towards the entrance of the Mumbai airport. The actress then took a pause and posed for the shutterbugs, flaunting her charming smile. After exuding pure elegance, the Samrat Prithviraj actress expressed her gratitude and bid adieu towards the paps. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Instant Bollywood (@instantbollywood) Manushi Chillar's Latest Travel Mode Is A Pure Glam Version Of Her Chic Style Soon after the video was posted, social media users flooded the comment section by posting appreciative emojis for Manushi's look. For the day, she picked a white tank top teamed with a pair of black-hued loose-fitting palazzo pants. The diva layered her ensemble with a black scarf to shield her skin from the hot and humid weather of the city. For accessories, the Operation Valentine star opted for a sleek leather arm candy, a pair of pink pump shoes and brown sunglasses. She kept her makeup subtle with a pink tint on her lips and left her tresses open and loose to cascade down her shoulders effortlessly. Manushi Chillar's Professional Front Manushi Chillar made her acting debut in 2022 with the role of Sanyogita in the historical drama Samrat Prithviraj. Since then, she has appeared in a number of movies, including The Great Indian Family, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Operation Valentine and Maalik. Next, she will be seen in the action thriller movie titled Tehran, directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Shobhna Yadav and Sandeep Leyzell. The winner of the Miss World 2017 pageant once revealed whether there are any stereotypes associated with the pageantry field. 'Whatever people have to say, it's their opinion, but for me personally, when I transitioned into films, I didn't feel like I had to do something very different or I had to be a certain way. I dress according to my job. I was a girl doing her job as Ms World, and I am a girl doing my job as an actor now," she told HT, adding, 'The first thing is that when people say that the world of beauty pageant is of glamour, I do not agree with that. It's that one night in 365 days when a girl is crowned, which you see on stage." 'The whole year, what you are doing is not a very glamorous job. I was working with a charity called Beauty With A Purpose, and we were constantly travelling to the remotest areas of different parts of the world, and that's not a very glamorous job. So, technically, what I had to do as a Miss World was not just wear a crown, dress up and get photographed. Probably the media covers that one night, which gets most spoken about," she concluded. Dr. Ashwin Fernandes' PACT Foundation launches #GoaSuper100 initiative, joined by Anupam Kher and Sonu Sood Goa [India], August 11: In a powerful celebration of grassroots impact and visionary leadership, PACT Foundation commemorated its 2nd Foundation Day on August 8 at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar, Goa. The event brought together educators, changemakers, government partners, and citizens to mark two years of PACT's mission to transform education in Goa. In unveiling the Foundation's next big leap: #GoaSuper100, the event was graced by special guests — veteran actor and motivational speaker Anupam Kher, andacclaimed actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood, who joined PACT's Founder and President, Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, in celebrating this milestone. The Goa Super 100 is a full undergraduate scholarship program designed to empower 100 bright, underprivileged Goan students to pursue higher education at reputed universities across India. Envisioned by Fernandes, this program marks a significant step in addressing the post-Class 12 education gap for economically constrained youth in the state. Speaking at the event, Dr. Ashwin Fernandes said, 'We have seen firsthand how hope takes root when resources meet responsibility. Goa Super 100 is not just about financial support — it's about creating a generation of leaders who carry forward the spirit of equity, gratitude, and giving back.' The initiative builds on PACT's impressive track record of impact in just two years. Since its inception in 2023, the Foundation's flagship Happy School Project has transformed over 20 rural and semi-urban government schools, creating clean, safe, and joyful learning environments for more than 6,000 students. From smart classrooms and libraries to playgrounds and clean sanitation, the schools have become thriving spaces of dignity, learning, and community pride. The Foundation Day also recognised the tireless efforts of teachers, community leaders, and volunteers who have co-created this journey of change. In their keynote addresses, both Mr. Anupam Kher and Mr. Sonu Sood emphasised the power of education to transform lives. Mr. Anupam Kher encouraged students to dream big and persevere through challenges, while Mr. Sonu Sood praised Dr. Ashwin Fernandes for turning his global experience into grassroots action in his home state. The Foundation Day concluded with a call to action from Fernandes — inviting individuals, corporate partners, and the Goan diaspora to support the mission through donations, mentorship, or institutional partnerships. PACT will soon open the Goa Super 100 application portal, with the first cohort of scholars expected to begin college in the 2026–27 academic year. From restoring schools to opening doors to universities, PACT Foundation continues to build an education ecosystem where every child can dream, achieve, and give back.
