The Runway Rundown: From the Streets to the Club At Balenciaga And Valentino

What does a wearable wardrobe look like? The answer depends on who you ask. This season, Demna and Balenciaga and Valentino both showcased diverging takes on clothes they want to see out in the real world — in the office, on the streets, at the club.

At Balenciaga, Demna wanted to 'show the different facets of my vision for Balenciaga,' he explained after the show, which was set in a gigantic black maze. 'I promised last year I would do a study of standards. It's the hardest thing to do. It's easy to put a chair on the head and be like, Oh, that's like, my wearable art… I wanted to show the whole variety of kind of standards in the way I imagine fashion.'
The show started with an office wardrobe, Demna style, with suiting that had subtle Balenciaga twists. 'What makes a suit a Demna suit is the [low] placement of the button,' he explained. 'It's the waistband that can be worn adjustable, low waist or high waist, the sleeves and armhole that's big enough to fit another garment other than a shirt underneath.'
There was the 'standard' trench coat, the 'standard' fur coat, the 'standard' hoodie dress (although, let's be real, few but Demna would see a hoodie dress as a wardrobe basic). There were lots of European streetwear and urban city looks — puffer coats and gilets worn with skinny puma tracksuits for men; while for women, jackets were fitted through the body, accentuating the female form, hoods finished with fur trims so exaggerated that they obscured the models' faces completely — and eveningwear dresses that slit right up to the hip bone, to reveal a flash of lacey stocking-clad leg.
'My fashion, what I do, is really about the brain behind dress making, rather than make believe or that 'Fashion is art', or whatever,' he said. 'Fashion is wearable, fashion is urgent, fashion is right now. I need that kind of fashion. And tonight was that exercise for me to share that.'
Meanwhile, at Valentino, Michele took us to the public toilets for his second ready-to-wear show for the house. He described the setting as place that neutralises different concepts of intimacy — but really, it was like being in the loos of a megaclub à la Hï Ibiza, people watching as different characters flitted in and out of the toilet stalls, music pounding, a sense of kinetic energy reverberating around the room.
His capsule wardrobe was eclectic, for sure, and definitely not for the minimally inclined. Some clubbers wore jeans and sneakers with Valentino's take on a going out top. Others were dressed to the nines in signature Michele gowns, a mish-mash of textures and colours. Bows! Feathers! Ruffles! Sequins! Lace! Day and cocktail dresses; '70s silhouetted-suiting; lace bodies teamed with lace tights and heels, bralettes and big knickers on full display. Welcome to the fashion nightclub of dreams.

Lea Michele's Tonys Look Paid Homage to Her Upcoming Role in 'Chess'

Lea Michele is making a triumphant return to Broadway this fall in the revival of Chess, and what better place to celebrate than at the Tony Awards? Last night, the actress appeared at Radio City Music Hall, where she joined co-star Aaron Tveit to present the trophy for Best Revival of a Musical. Together, they announced the winner: the Nicole Scherzinger-led Sunset Boulevard. For the big event, Michele wore a custom Michael Kors Collection look: a black halter tuxedo jacket with a plunging lapel neckline, paired with a pleated chiffon skirt featuring a thigh-high slit. She accessorized with classic black pumps and shimmering silver jewelry—including earrings, a bracelet, a bangle, and a ring—all by EFFY Jewelry. Consider it a seductive spin on the classic tailored suit. For the uninitiated, Chess is a musical set against the backdrop of the Cold War, revolving around an intense chess championship—and a complicated love triangle—between an American and a Russian. Joining Michele and Tveit is Nicholas Christopher (known for Miss Saigon and Hamilton), rounding out the trio. The production features a score by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with lyrics by Tim Rice. The book for this iteration is penned by Danny Strong (Dopesick) and Michael Mayer will direct. (He previously collaborated with Michele on Spring Awakening and Funny Girl, according to The Hollywood Reporter.) The cast already had a 29-hour reading earlier this month. 'I am beyond excited to be returning to Broadway this fall with my amazing new co-stars in Chess,' Michele tells ELLE. 'I made my Broadway debut when I was 8 years old, and I've had the pleasure of being a part of this community for 30 years now. I cannot wait to get back onto the stage.' Before Chess opens at the Shubert Theatre, Michele will be gracing stages elsewhere—she's currently in the midst of a solo concert tour across the U.S. and Canada. 'I'm having so much fun on tour singing songs that are so special to me,' she says of the shows. 'It's a mix of songs from Broadway shows that I have been in, some songs from my studio albums, as well as songs from Glee! We also included a fun new section that we think Rachel Berry would sing currently, and I think fans have really enjoyed that part of the show. I also tell a lot of stories and have fun interactions with the audience.' Michele wasn't the only former Glee star at the Tonys last night—Darren Criss (who won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical) and Jonathan Groff (who was nominated in the same category and performed in the Hamilton reunion) were also in attendance. Famous guest stars including Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Salonga, and Adam Lambert rounded out the crowd. Below, see how Michele got ready for Broadway's biggest night.

As the Beckham family feud rages on, one son just made a personal decision: report

Deep sigh. Romeo Beckham was single for a hot minute, and now has possibly moved on. David and Victoria' Beckham's middle son, 22, was just spotted with a gorgeous woman in Paris, days after reports he had split with Kim Turnbull. The latter relationship was apparently one of the catalysts for a feud currently simmering within the famous English family who lives in Miami part time. According to widespread media reports, Turnbull used to have a little something something with Romeo's older brother Brooklyn, 26. Despite being happily married to Nicola Peltz, the aspiring chef understandably didn't want to have to hang with the London-based DJ when the whole gang got together. OK, so Turnbull isn't the only cause of the alleged friction. We hear that Victoria and Peltz are not exactly besties, with problems dating back to the 'Transformers' star's 2022 wedding to the ex Spice Girl's eldest in Palm Beach. The fact that the socialite chose to wear Valentino apparently didn't sit well with her mother-in-law, a haute designer. Whatever caused the drama, and if it's still ongoing is unclear. But we do know Brooklyn recently covered up his 'Mama's Boy' chest tattoo with flowers. Ouch. Back to Romeo and his sitch: TMZ identifies his new ladyfriend as Caroline Daur, a German fitness influencer. According to her eponymous website, the 30-year-old is 'a successful self-made entrepreneur and actress' with over 4.6 million followers on Instagram. Time will tell if the Beckhams can heal from the all this tumult. Insiders tell UK's The Sun the soccer icon and former pop star are hoping they can all reunite to celebrate daughter Harper's 14th birthday, which falls on July 10. But another source threw cold water on that theory: 'It doesn't seem likely at the moment.'

Warner Bros. Discovery Stock Enjoys Big Jump, Then Promptly Fades After Split Announcement

Warner Bros. Discovery's plan to split into two publicly traded companies sent its stock price surging higher on Monday morning, with shares of WBD jumping 13% to $11.10 on the Nasdaq exchange only minutes after the opening bell. Those early gains started to fade by midday, though, with Warner Bros. Discovery's stock trading for $9.94 per share at 1 p.m. ET — up 1.30% from where it closed last week. Here is an up-to-the-minute look at WBD: On the year, WBD is down 6%, and the company's stock price has been more than sliced in half since it debuted on the Nasdaq in 2022 for $24.08 per share. That came after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged — a move that was met with a collective shrug from Wall Street analysts and investors from the start, with its stock price increasing 0.8% on April 11, 2022, its first day of trading. Now, three years later, WBD announced on Monday it will split into two companies, with one company focused on its global cable channels and another dedicated to its movie and streaming businesses. David Zaslav, president and CEO of WBD, will become president and CEO of Streaming & Studios, while Gunnar Wiedenfels, WBD's CFO, will serve as president and CEO of Global Networks. The separation is expected to be completed by mid-2026. 'By operating as two distinct and optimized companies in the future, we are empowering these iconic brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today's evolving media landscape,' Zaslav said in a statement. The new Streaming & Studios operation will consist of Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO and HBO Max, in addition to their corresponding film and television libraries. Global Networks, meanwhile, will include international entertainment, sports and TV news brands such as CNN, TNT Sports, Discovery, Discovery+, Bleacher Report and European free-to-air channels. In related news, WBD investors last week voted to reject a $51.9 million compensation package for Zaslav. The post Warner Bros.
