Karnataka to push for two defence corridors in meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

The Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Singh in the national capital on Wednesday evening.
"As the country's leading contributor to the aerospace and defence sector, Karnataka deserves two defence corridors-one in the
Kolar-Chikkaballapura region
and the other in the
Hubballi-Belagavi belt
. We will present this request during our meeting with Rajnath Singh," Patil said.

Speaking to reporters, he said there was a need for one corridor each in south and north Karnataka, pointing out that leading companies such as Aequs already operate in Belagavi.
Noting that Karnataka should have been granted a defence corridor when Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh were allotted theirs, Patil said even the central government had realised this oversight, and Rajnath Singh himself had acknowledged it.

He added that the matter was also discussed during Rajnath Singh's participation in the Global Investors Meet-Invest Karnataka 2025.
"We are not against projects being sanctioned for other states. We are only demanding what Karnataka rightfully deserves," he said.
Patil also mentioned that the Chairman of
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
(
HAL
) had recently met him and assured government support for land requirements.
Highlighting Karnataka's 65 per cent contribution to the country's aerospace and defence sector, Patil said the state ranks first nationally and third globally in this domain.
"The state is home to major players such as HAL, Safran, Boeing, Airbus, Collins, and Lockheed Martin. We already have an aerospace park near the Devanahalli airport. To further strengthen our position, the government now proposes another
aerospace and defence park
nearby. Farmers who lose their land will be compensated under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013," he said.
Farmer representatives and organisations have been protesting against the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board's (KIADB) notification for acquiring fertile land in Devanahalli for the proposed park.
CM Siddaramaiah will meet the farmers' representatives on July 15 to clarify the government's stand. He had recently cited legal constraints, as the final notification for acquisition had already been issued.
In response to a question, Patil urged actor Prakash Raj to raise his voice against land acquisition in other states as well, just as he has done in Karnataka over the Devanahalli project.
"Here in Devanahalli, the government plans to acquire just 1,282 acres for the proposed hi-tech aerospace and defence park. In contrast, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has acquired 10,000 acres from Madakasira to Penukonda for a similar project and is offering the land free of cost," he said.
Additionally, he said the Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government has acquired another 45,000 acres for industrial use.

Patil further noted that the Tamil Nadu government has been actively expanding industries in Hosur, just 50 km from Bengaluru, and also plans to build an international airport there.
For such projects, land is being allotted at highly subsidised rates. If Andhra succeeds in attracting the aerospace and defence park, companies in this sector may shift operations there, resulting in massive losses for Karnataka, he warned.
Clarifying his remarks, Patil said he "held no personal grudge" against Prakash Raj.

The Aam Aadmi Party always stands with farmers. If farmers do not like this policy, why should we impose it? Therefore, respecting the voice of the farmers—we are withdrawing this policy." The policy's objective was to acquire land in 164 villages for urban development near 27 cities and towns. The govt aimed to acquire around 45,000 acres in the Ludhiana district alone through a phased approach. Despite repeated assurances from CM Mann that no land would be "forcefully acquired," farmers remained sceptical. This opposition was rooted in a deep-seated fear that the policy would lead to the permanent loss of their lands and livelihoods. The protests also led to significant dissent, with farmers in districts like Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, and Jalandhar putting up "no entry" banners for AAP leaders. While MP Malvinder Kang publicly called for a "meaningful dialogue" with the farming community, the internal disagreement also saw some AAP functionaries resign in protest. Those who stepped down in protest included Harmanjit Singh Brar, chairman of the Moga District Planning Committee, and Gurjeet Singh Kanjhla, the block president of the AAP's unit in CM Mann's own constituency of Dhuri. Under the policy, owners who opted for pooling were to receive a 1,000 sq yd residential plot and a 200 sq yd commercial plot in fully developed land in lieu of one acre. To address farmer concerns, CM Mann announced several amendments to the policy on July 22. These changes included raising the annual livelihood allowance for landowners to Rs 1 lakh per acre until developed plots were handed over, a fivefold increase from the previous Rs 20,000. Farmers who owned as little as one kanal of land were also made eligible to receive a residential plot. Furthermore, landowners could opt for a larger residential plot in place of a commercial one, and a letter of intent (LOI) would be issued within 21 days, which could be used to secure bank loans. Kolkata: Suburban commuters on board the maiden AC EMU Ranaghat-Sealdah train were ecstatic to experience the much-awaited service on the first day of the week. The feelings were mixed when it came to coughing up Rs 120 for the ride from Ranaghat to Sealdah. While some seemed sensitive about paying Rs 100 more for a journey that otherwise costs Rs 20 in non-AC rakes, others said the cool comfort and the superior travel justified the fare. A monthly ticket costs Rs 2,430. The one-way fare ranges from Rs 35 to Rs 120 depending on the distance travelled. The train was flagged off with much fanfare from Sealdah on Sunday. Commercial services started at 8.29 am on Monday. The inaugural commercial service was fairly crowded, with several passengers standing. But there was enough legroom, unlike the non-AC local trains. Ranaghat resident Dilip Ghosh, who works in Khadi Bhavan on CR Avenue, was smiling as he looked around the ICF-made rake, from the AC vent over the seat, noting the time as the automatic doors closed and the train chugged out of Ranaghat station. "This is like travelling on a metro train. We are covering 90 km in AC comfort and saving time as well.
