Taylor Swift's Personal Decision Draws Strong Response

Yahoo3 days ago

Taylor Swift's Personal Decision Draws Strong Response originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Back in 2019, it was revealed that Taylor Swift did not own the master recordings of her first six albums because they were sold to music executive Scooter Braun when he acquired her former label, Big Machine Records. In response, she announced plans to re-record all six albums to reclaim control of her music. From 2021 to 2023, the Eras Tour star released "Fearless (Taylor's Version)," "Red (Taylor's Version)," "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)."
But on Friday morning, Swift took to social media to announce that she now holds the rights to her first six albums. This means that the 35-year-old singer owns every single recording, music video, concert film and the art that comes with it.
"All of the music I've ever made...now belongs to me," the singer wrote in a letter that's published on her website. "Every single era. My entire life's work."
She regained ownership of her master recordings from Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that bought them from Braun's Ithaca Holdings in 2020. They reportedly sold them back to Swift for a price close to the $360 million they originally paid, according to Billboard.
The "Cruel Summer" singer was just 17 years old when she signed with Big Machine in 2006. Before her contract ended in 2018, she released six albums: "Taylor Swift," "Speak Now," "Fearless," "Red," "1989" and "Reputation."
On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter announced that streams from all of the original versions of her older albums at least doubled on Friday, according to percentage changes Spotify shared with the outlet.
Her 2010 album "Speak Now" had the biggest spike, with streams rising 430% globally. Swift's 2006 self-titled debut and 2017's "Reputation" followed in second and third place, with increases of 220% and 175%, respectively.
"Fearless," released in 2008, climbed 160%; "Red" jumped 150%; and "1989" had a 110% boost.
Even without releasing new music in over a year and stepping back from the spotlight since the Super Bowl, where her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce, lost against the Philadelphia Eagles, Swift is still one of the most-listened-to artists on Spotify with over 82 million monthly listeners.

Taylor Swift And Blake Lively Friendship Update In June

There's a new update on Taylor Swift and Blake Lively's friendship amidst Blake's ongoing legal woes with Justin Baldoni. In December, Blake sued Justin, her co-star and director on It Ends with Us, claiming he sexually harassed her on set. In addition to denying the claims, Justin launched a countersuit against Blake, alleging defamation, civil extortion, and false light invasion of privacy. Taylor was roped into the drama in May when Justin's legal team subpoenaed her, arguing that Blake had used "her megacelebrity friend to pressure [Justin]" into making changes on the film. A rep for Taylor immediately denied their claims. "Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie," her spokesperson said. "She was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history." According to the rep, Taylor had only agreed to license her song "My Tears Ricochet" for use in the trailer and one scene. "Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift's name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case." Still, the drama continued when Justin's lawyers wrote a letter to a judge claiming that Blake had allegedly asked Taylor to delete their text messages and "that if Ms. Swift refused to do so, private text messages of a personal nature in Ms. Lively's possession would be released." Blake's lawyer called the claims "categorically false," and the next day, a judge struck the "improper" letter from the record. However, a source claimed that Blake and Taylor's friendship was still left "fractured" in the wake of it. "Their friendship has halted," a source purportedly close to Taylor told People last month. "Taylor wants no part in this drama," the source added, before clarifying it didn't mean they were "not no longer friends" — they were just "taking some space." Neither Taylor nor Blake addressed the report at the time, but now, almost a month on, a source has offered an update, telling People their friendship still "isn't the same." "[They] aren't as close and haven't been spending as much time together as they did in the past," the source said. However, they claimed Taylor and Blake are trying to get back "on good terms." I guess we'll see what happens. In the meantime, BuzzFeed has reached out to reps for Taylor, Blake, and Justin for comment on the latest report.

Cowboys Players Rally Around Brian Schottenheimer's 'Brotherhood Energy'

Cowboys Players Rally Around Brian Schottenheimer's 'Brotherhood Energy' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It might only be early in the Brian Schottenheimer era for the Dallas Cowboys, but his presence is already being felt across the board. Advertisement With a family-oriented approach to his players, he brings a "different vibe" and energy to practice, which is something that the locker room and even past players love. "I think it's huge for the success of this football team," Tyler Smith said of Schottenheimer's approach. "Establishing the culture early and getting everybody on board is ultimately our goal. Schotty talks about it every day, but we're gonna compete everyday. "The ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl." That's the view from a player who is a Pro Bowler at the very top of the depth chart. What's it look like from a lower rung? 'It's every single day when you come into the building,' running back Deuce Vaughn said of Schottenheimer's energy. 'All the coaches as well, it really energizes us. It makes us really excited to come into the building every single day and put in the work. It really feels good whenever you're able to go out to practice and you're jumping around, listen to music, you're with your guys, and it's really the brotherhood we're trying to build.' Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, quarterback Dak Prescott (4) and running back Deuce Vaughn (42) celebrate a Heitman-Imagn Images Hmm, that word. Brotherhood. Advertisement We had heard about that over the past couple of seasons, but with Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence's social media blowup, it appeared to be all a facade. Maybe now, it isn't. Said team leader Dak Prescott, who speaks on "brotherhood'' more than anybody around here: "(Schottenheimer) is doing a hell of a job'' building a new culture in Dallas. Schottenheimer is doing all the right things to get his players pulling in the same direction. Yes, it is June, but this can't be denied now. The locker room appears bonded, with no one wanting to be "the" player who lets the team down. That's powerful. Too many have spoken glowingly of what Schotty is building both on and off the field to deny what is transpiring. His first crack at a head coaching role has gotten off to a solid start. Advertisement Now, we aren't proclaiming him to be anything yet, but he's got a vision for how he wants his team to act and play. And he's making sure they are all on the same page, with energy and vibes the key to everything the Cowboys will do under Schottenheimer's watch.
