"I have seen Prithvi since his childhood, from the time he was 10 years old," Lad said on a podcast with Gaurav Mangalani.
"He was a highly talented player. But as I have said, everyone's journey is individual, and I don't know what exactly happened with him.
"Still, Prithvi Shaw was a very talented cricketer. Unfortunately, he went down the wrong path and ended up spoiling his cricket."
Poll
What do you think is the main reason for Prithvi Shaw's decline in cricket?
Poor choices
Lack of opportunities
Injuries
Pressure of expectations
Lad lauded India's next batting sensations Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, and said the Indian future is in safe hands.
'Even now, I feel there should be a batter like him, the way he used to bat. Although right now we have some truly outstanding batters," he said.
"For example, the way Vaibhav Suryavanshi is batting, and the way Ayush Mhatre is batting — these are future cricketers in the making. They are getting ready in line.
Indian cricket
is almost at the top,' he added.

Joy Taylor opens up about getting 'fired' from FOX Sports amid dealing with the scandalous lawsuit A few days back, former FOX Sports executive, Joy Taylor appeared on the 'Hot Mics with Billy Bush' show, where she spoke about her lawsuit and getting fired from FOX Sports. What's Next for Joy Taylor After Leaving Fox Sports? When Joy Taylor was asked about the legal mess, she said, "Well, it's still an ongoing legal situation, so I can't comment on that. I will have something to say about it…when I can legally.' However, Joy Taylor strongly denied any connection between her lawsuit and getting fired from FOX Sports. The former FOX Sports executive added, "I will say that that situation and that suit had nothing to do with the changes that happened at FS1. I mean, I think from a logical standpoint, everyone can just look at it and see what the changes were and that there were three shows that were cut." National Sports Governance Bill Clears Rajya Sabha: Here's What It Means For Athletes
News18 has learnt that the sports ministry is moving swiftly to frame rules for its implementation The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the long-pending National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, despite loud protests and sloganeering from the opposition. The government, determined to push the reform through in the ongoing monsoon session, hailed it as a landmark step towards overhauling sports administration in the country. CNN-News18 has learnt that the sports ministry is moving swiftly to frame rules for its implementation. 'Eighty per cent of the work is already done, and the notification should be out in the next couple of months," a senior government source said. Once notified, the National Sports Board (NSB) will be constituted to recognise and regulate national and state-level sports federations. The bill also paves the way for a National Sports Election Panel to ensure fair, dispute-free elections across federations. This panel will be made up of members experienced in conducting federation polls, aiming to avoid legal entanglements that have plagued Indian sports bodies in the past. Athletes, especially women, will be central to decision-making, with mandatory Athletes' Committees in all federations. For the first time, a statutory minimum of four women on every Executive Committee. The bill proposes aligning Indian sports governance with the Olympic and Paralympic Charters, ensuring that the country is better positioned to host major international events, including a potential bid for the 2036 Olympics. India's sports landscape has long been plagued by controversies, from court battles over federation elections to mismanagement and a lack of athlete representation. Currently, more than 350 court cases regarding sports federations are pending, creating serious hurdles in governance and sports promotion. By embedding transparency, athlete representation, and gender equity into the law, the bill aims to not just reform administration but also strengthen India's image as a global sporting power. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
