
Motorcycle driver charged with stunt driving on deadly stretch of road in Ottawa Valley
Ontario Provincial Police say a motorcycle driver is facing charges after being stopped on a stretch of road in the Ottawa Valley that police say has claimed several lives.
According to police, several motorcycles were spotted speeding on Centennial Lake Road in Greater Madawaska Township at around 1 p.m. Saturday. OPP officers were able to stop one of them, a 45-year-old from Newcastle, who was allegedly going 151 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
Police said this stretch of road west of Ottawa has seen multiple fatal collisions.
'This stretch of road has claimed three lives in the last five years,' a post on social media said. 'The OPP is reminding drivers that speed kills and speed limits are there to keep everyone safe.'
OPP responded to fatal motorcycle collisions in that area in September 2024, June 2022, and September 2021.
The motorcycle driver who was stopped was charged with stunt driving and speeding, the OPP said, and received an automatic 30-day driver's licence suspension. The motorcycle has been impounded for 14 days.

According to the OPP the vehicle was pulled over in the Campeau Drive area on Sunday. 'The officer immediately observed an infant in a bassinet, on the front passenger seat, not belted in,' police said in a post on social media. Earlier in the day, the OPP said another officer saw a four-year-old walking around in the backseat of a moving car. The fine for having a passenger under the age of 16 not wearing a seatbelt is $240. 'Infants and small children rely on their parents to help them buckle up properly,' police say.

Three dead in Ontario cottage country, murder suspect still at large
Three people have died and a man is at large in Bracebridge Service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. [5005/500] It has been three days since Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of gunfire north of Bracebridge. According to police, officers responded to the call shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 1, in the area of Beatrice Town Road. When they arrived on scene, police found a deceased male and a house fully engulfed in flames. A shelter-in-place was initiated around 9:30 p.m. as officers responded to a potentially armed individual in distress. The shelter-in-place was lifted early Saturday morning around 1:45 a.m. and there is no longer a threat to public safety. In a second update from OPP on Saturday, Aug. 2, police identified an individual wanted for murder. Twenty-nine-year-old Mitchell Gray from Bracebridge is currently wanted for murder. Police describe him as a white male, 5′8″ with light brown hair and facial hair. He was last seen on Friday, Aug. 1. In a statement to CTV News, Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney said, 'We appreciate the efforts of all our emergency services who responded to this tragic incident, especially our OPP. Our hearts and thoughts are with the family of the victims.' OPP remain tightlipped on the ongoing death and arson investigation and have not released any additional information. Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Indecent act charge laid in Sarnia
Sarnia police have laid an indecent act charge against a man in the city. On Saturday just after 10:14 p.m., the Sarnia Police Service was called to the Overflow Shelter on Exmouth Street after receiving a complaint that a man allegedly exposed himself. Police said they spoke to witnesses, who named the man, and showed them the area the incident took place. The SPS found and arrested the suspect at a nearby restaurant, where they said he was 'badgering customers in the drive through'. The 26-year-old of no fixed address was charged with indecent act and four counts of breach of probation. In the last year, since August 2024, the SPS have arrested the suspect 10 times, laid 17 breach of probation charges, five indecent act charges (of 32 total charges), and this incident marked the 40th incident with the police.
