Cops shut down ‘Turun Anwar' stage at Dataran Merdeka over safety, lack of DBKL approval
KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Police instructed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to dismantle the main stage set up at Dataran Merdeka for an event today, citing safety concerns and lack of approval.
Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the structure was erected without permission from DBKL or a formal application from the organisers.
'The stage structure did not guarantee safety, and the police were not informed of how many people would be on the stage,' he told reporters via Whatsapp.
Mohamed Usuf said that police and the organisers had initially agreed to use two Hilux vehicles as a makeshift stage.
Thousands of protestors gathered in central Kuala Lumpur this afternoon to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

KUALA LUMPUR: About 2,000 people from diverse backgrounds gathered at Dataran Merdeka today to show solidarity with the Palestinian people during the "Malaysia Bangkit Untuk Gaza" rally. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Affendy Sulaiman said that 400 police personnel were deployed to ensure security and manage traffic throughout the rally, working closely with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). DBKL removes 18 illegally parked m-cycles at Bangsar LRT station
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) removed 18 parked motorcycles that obstructed pedestrian walkways and disabled facilities near the Bangsar Light Rail Transit (LRT) station. In a statement today, City Hall said it acted on public complaints on illegally parked vehicles and would continue periodic enforcement. "In the latest enforcement exercise, 18 motorcycles were towed to DBKL's vehicle impound depot in Jalan Pahang for further action, including issuing compounds. "DBKL issued 70 compounds for various traffic offences during the operation," it said in a Facebook post. City Hall reminded road users, especially motorcyclists, to obey traffic rules and to ensure their vehicles were parked properly without obstructing pedestrians or traffic flow.

Long-term Assistance For Pantai Dalam Fire Victims To Be Coordinated
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The form of long-term assistance for victims affected by the fire that destroyed 14 houses and several business premises in Pantai Dalam last night will be studied first before a coordinated plan is implemented. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said his ministry is arranging multiple meetings involving the affected families and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to determine the best way forward. 'First, we will engage with the affected families to explore what kinds of support, beyond financial aid and emergency relief, can be provided. I am considering relocating them to nearby People's Housing Projects (PPR) so that during the reconstruction period, or if they need to find a new home, they will at least have access to more suitable housing. 'For the shops and business premises that were affected, I will be meeting with DBKL, landlords, shop operators, and other relevant parties to discuss the next steps,' he said during a visit to the Al-Khwarizmi Religious Primary School, which has been turned into a relief centre to accommodate the victims, comprising 66 people from 17 families. Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, said that based on feedback from the Fire and Rescue Department, the existing structure of the premises involved was completely damaged and may need to be demolished. 'The damage is premises, frames and structures, mostly made of wood, are beyond repair and pose a safety hazard. Most likely, demolition will be necessary, followed by new construction. 'We will explore what kind of assistance can be channelled to support the redevelopment of this area,' he said. Earlier, Fahmi spent nearly an hour inspecting the site of the fire. The fire, which broke out about 11 pm yesterday, destroyed 14 squatter houses and four shop premises, including Mydin Mart and Pasaraya Karnival.
