Passenger Beaten On Train After Complaining About Food Overcharging; Video Sparks Outrage Online
A shocking video has gone viral on social media showing a passenger being beaten up on a train after he reportedly complained about being overcharged for food. The incident was first shared on Reddit in the 'r/indianrailways' group and later spread across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, sparking anger among the public.
The 19-second-long video shows a group of men—some wearing catering uniforms—surrounding a passenger and attacking him inside a sleeper coach. Other passengers can be seen watching, but no one steps in to help.

According to the Reddit post, the passenger had filed a complaint on the Railway Seva platform after being overcharged by the train's catering staff. The post claims that after the complaint was made, the passenger's ticket details (PNR and seat number) were shared with IRCTC, which then informed the food contractor. The contractor allegedly sent his men to confront and beat up the passenger.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jabalpur responded on social media, saying, 'We're sorry for the inconvenience. The complaint is from July 15, when the train was in the Baroda division. We're now in contact with IRCTC to cancel the pantry contract on this train."
The train involved is said to be the Somnath-Jabalpur Express (Train No. 11463). People online are criticising the system for allowing such incidents to happen. One user wrote, 'How can you give the complainant's details to the same people the complaint is about? That's unsafe and irresponsible." Others said complaints should be handled by an independent team, and refunds should be given without putting passengers in danger.
Several others came forward, sharing similar experiences where they were forced to take back complaints or pressured to say the issue was resolved, even when it wasn't.
As of now, Indian Railways has not released an official statement.

The chargesheet elaborates how the land, obtained as a bribe, was later sold to real estate giant DLF for Rs 58 crore. The ED claims that Rs 53 crore of this amount was channelled through Skylight Hospitality, with an additional Rs 5 crore routed through another company, Blue Breeze Trading. The agency states these funds were then used by Vadra to purchase other immovable properties and make investments. In total, the ED has provisionally attached 43 properties worth over Rs 38 crore, identifying them as either direct or value-equivalent proceeds of the crime. Mumbai, Aug 9 (PTI) A man was booked on Saturday for feeding pigeons from a grain-filled tray kept on the roof of his car in Mumbai's Dadar area, a police official said. The car too has been seized, the Shivaji Park police station official said. 'Mahendra Sanklecha, a Lalbaug resident, was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on charges of public nuisance, disobedience of the order duly promulgated by public servant, negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life. He has been issued a notice as well," the official said. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's decision to ban public feeding of pigeons in view of health hazards associated with the practice and close 'kabutarkhanas' has led to a controversy. People who feed pigeons have challenged the civic body's decision in the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court on Thursday said it had not passed any order directing the closure of 'kabutarkhanas' (pigeon-feeding spots) in the city, but only refrained from staying the closure order of the municipal corporation.
