Passenger Beaten On Train After Complaining About Food Overcharging; Video Sparks Outrage Online
A shocking video has gone viral on social media showing a passenger being beaten up on a train after he reportedly complained about being overcharged for food. The incident was first shared on Reddit in the 'r/indianrailways' group and later spread across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, sparking anger among the public.
The 19-second-long video shows a group of men—some wearing catering uniforms—surrounding a passenger and attacking him inside a sleeper coach. Other passengers can be seen watching, but no one steps in to help.
According to the Reddit post, the passenger had filed a complaint on the Railway Seva platform after being overcharged by the train's catering staff. The post claims that after the complaint was made, the passenger's ticket details (PNR and seat number) were shared with IRCTC, which then informed the food contractor. The contractor allegedly sent his men to confront and beat up the passenger.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jabalpur responded on social media, saying, 'We're sorry for the inconvenience. The complaint is from July 15, when the train was in the Baroda division. We're now in contact with IRCTC to cancel the pantry contract on this train."
The train involved is said to be the Somnath-Jabalpur Express (Train No. 11463). People online are criticising the system for allowing such incidents to happen. One user wrote, 'How can you give the complainant's details to the same people the complaint is about? That's unsafe and irresponsible." Others said complaints should be handled by an independent team, and refunds should be given without putting passengers in danger.
Several others came forward, sharing similar experiences where they were forced to take back complaints or pressured to say the issue was resolved, even when it wasn't.
As of now, Indian Railways has not released an official statement.

Robert Vadra Received Rs 58 Cr Proceeds Of Crime In Tainted Gurugram Land Deal, ED Tells Court
A special PMLA court has issued a notice to Vadra, scheduling a hearing on August 28 to determine whether to take cognisance of the complaint The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted a detailed chargesheet against Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accusing him of receiving Rs 58 crore as proceeds from a corrupt land deal in Gurugram. The ED informed a special court that Vadra's company, Skylight Hospitality Pvt Ltd, was pivotal to the alleged money laundering operation. According to the ED's chargesheet filed on July 17, Vadra's company acquired a 3.5-acre plot in Gurugram's Shikohpur village as a bribe, contradicting his earlier assertion that he purchased the land for Rs 7.5 crore. The investigation revealed that the cheque intended for the payment was never cashed, and the sale deed was based on false information. The ED alleges that Omkareshwar Properties Pvt Ltd transferred the land to Vadra's company without any payment in exchange for his supposed influence with then-Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to obtain a housing license. The chargesheet elaborates how the land, obtained as a bribe, was later sold to real estate giant DLF for Rs 58 crore. The ED claims that Rs 53 crore of this amount was channelled through Skylight Hospitality, with an additional Rs 5 crore routed through another company, Blue Breeze Trading. The agency states these funds were then used by Vadra to purchase other immovable properties and make investments. In total, the ED has provisionally attached 43 properties worth over Rs 38 crore, identifying them as either direct or value-equivalent proceeds of the crime. A special PMLA court has issued a notice to Vadra, scheduling a hearing on August 28 to determine whether to take cognisance of the complaint. Vadra has consistently denied all allegations, calling them a 'political witch-hunt". This chargesheet, being the first one filed against him in a criminal case, signifies a major development in the investigation. view comments First Published: August 10, 2025, 05:02 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ex-Delhi Cop Among 4 Held In Punjab Jewellery Heist, Learnt To Disguise Himself From YouTube Videos
The police recovered a substantial haul of stolen items, comprising 120 grams of gold, 500 grams of silver, and Rs 8 lakh in cash from the suspects Punjab Police have apprehended four individuals, including a former Delhi Police officer, in connection with a brazen daylight robbery at a jeweller's shop in Dhakoli on July 11. The police recovered a substantial haul of stolen items, comprising 120 grams of gold, 500 grams of silver, and Rs 8 lakh in cash from the suspects. The arrested individuals have been identified as Delhi residents Amit Shukla, Vijay Kamal, Akash Sharma, and Ravinder Tyagi. Zirakpur Superintendent of Police, Jaspinder Singh Gill, detailed the suspects' criminal backgrounds and their sophisticated methods. Amit Shukla, identified as the main accused, is already implicated in two prior cases of robbery and criminal conspiracy. The most shocking revelation pertains to Vijay Kamal, a former Delhi Police officer dismissed after his involvement in a kidnapping case. Kamal, who has a notorious history with eight registered cases of theft and robbery, is considered the mastermind behind several jewellery heists. Investigations revealed that Kamal went to great lengths to avoid detection during the Dhakoli robbery. To disguise himself, he meticulously learned to tie a turban using YouTube tutorials, a detail underscoring his cunning. Police disclosed that Kamal's criminal strategy involved a systematic reconnaissance process, where he tracked and observed jewellers for a period before carrying out the robbery. This premeditated approach allowed the gang to strike with precision. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Man booked for feeding pigeons from tray on roof of car; vehicle seized
Mumbai, Aug 9 (PTI) A man was booked on Saturday for feeding pigeons from a grain-filled tray kept on the roof of his car in Mumbai's Dadar area, a police official said. The car too has been seized, the Shivaji Park police station official said. 'Mahendra Sanklecha, a Lalbaug resident, was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on charges of public nuisance, disobedience of the order duly promulgated by public servant, negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life. He has been issued a notice as well," the official said. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's decision to ban public feeding of pigeons in view of health hazards associated with the practice and close 'kabutarkhanas' has led to a controversy. People who feed pigeons have challenged the civic body's decision in the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court on Thursday said it had not passed any order directing the closure of 'kabutarkhanas' (pigeon-feeding spots) in the city, but only refrained from staying the closure order of the municipal corporation. A committee of experts can study whether the old kabutarkhanas in the city should continue, but 'human life is of paramount importance", it said.
