Everton's Moyes told players to make sure Goodison finish was positive
He need not have worried as his players handled the occasion with ease, Iliman Ndiaye scoring twice as they beat relegated Southampton 2-0 on Sunday as the stadium known as the Grand Old Lady hosted its final Premier League game after 133 years.
"I was worried today. Everybody's been talking about this for so long," Moyes told reporters.
"The scenes outside the stadium were incredible, really. It felt like a club which is needing some big days, some big things in the future. So let's hope this is the start of it.
"But I tried to make a point to the players that what couldn't happen was that we left here not finishing it off right. (But) we've done the job which we needed. We've got 45 points (and stand 13th in the league table).
"The pressure was off the players today because of that (being clear of relegation), but it was also on because of the occasion, because of the greats who were sitting watching them."
Dozens of Everton icons, including Tim Cahill, Wayne Rooney and Duncan Ferguson, were at Goodison to take part in a post-game celebration that had fans in their seats - some singing, others sobbing - long after the final whistle blew.
"I've been here a while and I know what it means. It's been a great stadium," said 62-year-old Scot Moyes, who managed Everton from 2002-2013 before rejoining the club this year.
"Some questions (about the last game at Goodison) make me think, 'My goodness, this is difficult to take some of these,'" he added.
"I think more the feeling that there might be a club which is coming back together, signs that before there was a real breakup of a sort, of a love affair with the supporters, the players, the club, the owners. So we're all trying to get back ... together."
Everton end the season at Newcastle United on May 25, and then will move into their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the next campaign.
The club announced earlier this week that their women's team, who play in the Women's Super League, would make a permanent move to Goodison from next season.

This addition happened a month before the US Open. Raducanu has been working with her British coach, Mark Petchey, on an unofficial basis ever since March, and this partnership has shown positive results in the athlete's season performance. The 22-year-old athlete had difficulties with a coach in recent years until her part-time collaboration with Petchey, which successfully led her to the quarterfinals at the Miami Open last March, followed by a last-16 run at the Italian Open and last eight in the first women's tournament at Queen's Club this year. However, Petchey is unable to become Raducanu's full-time coach due to his TV commitments. After having a trial with Roig following this year's Wimbledon, Raducanu will then start working with him for the Cincinnati Open. The Spanish coach has worked with Rafael Nadal, together with Nadal's uncle Toni, for the majority of the 22-time Grand Slam champion's tennis career. Furthermore, he was part of Matteo Berrettini's backroom staff. Roig agreed to a contract with Raducanu until the end of 2025. Raducanu to pair up with Alcaraz at the US Open Young tennis stars, Alcaraz and Raducanu, were one of the exciting pairs for this season's mixed doubles at the US Open. The pair will play on-court together for the very first time. With this, Alcaraz admitted: 'She's gonna be the boss… I'm super excited about it. I think it's going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament… I've known Emma for a really long time, so we know each other. I have a really good relationship with her. We are going to enjoy it, for sure.' The Spaniard added: 'I will try to bring my doubles skill. We will try to win, but obviously it's going to be really, really fun… I was thinking that I couldn't play better unless it was with Emma. I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request.' With this partnership, Raducanu also expressed that Alcaraz was an inspiration to her: 'I've known him for years, and actually in Wimbledon 2021 it was like kind of the first time I started getting to know him, and I had a good run there and then also again in the US Open in 2021… And I remember he was always playing the day before me, and I was playing like the second day of the round, and I would see him win, and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too.' Benn and Eubank rematch scheduled for November at Tottenham Stadium
LONDON :British rivals Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will meet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 15 for an eagerly-awaited rematch of their non-title middleweight clash last April, organisers announced on Wednesday. Eubank won the first 12 round fight, an echo of a clash 35 years previously between their fathers Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, at the same North London venue by unanimous 116-112 points decision. Ring Magazine, owned by Turki Alalshikh who chairs Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, reported the deal was completed on Tuesday and it would sponsor the "Unfinished Business" fight along with Riyadh Season. Sela, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), will be the lead promoter. Ring said it believed the weight terms would remain the same.
