Nurul Izzah named Sidec adviser, joins tech veterans in push to grow Selangor's semiconductor sector
Selangorkini cited Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari expressing confidence that Nurul Izzah's experience and roles would contribute significantly to the comprehensive planning of the industry in the state.
'Nurul Izzah has played her own role, including behind the scenes, in the semiconductor sector since last year.
'It is hoped that this appointment will help serve as a bridge between the federal government and other stakeholders,' he was quoted saying.
Sidec made the announcement last night during its 10th anniversary celebration, as posted on its Facebook page today.
The daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was cited as executive chairman of Polity — the think tank she founded, focusing on policy research and community-driven interventions.
The PKR deputy president was named alongside experts in the semiconductor industry: Datuk Lai Yit Loong, the former vice-president of Nvidia Corp and Foxconn, and Chiang Shang-Yi, a director at Foxconn and former chief operating officer of TSMC.
Last year during KL20 Summit in April, Putrajaya and Selangor announced the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, which spans 60,000 square feet and located in PFCC Puchong.
The project was expected to bring in economic returns of RM500 million to RM1 billion.
In August last year, Sidec said Cyberjaya has been identified as the next location for the expansion of the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park.

KANGAR, July 5 – PAS said it is open to contests for all positions, including the top posts of president and deputy president, at its 71st Muktamar or annual congress scheduled for September. Its spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin was quoted saying the Islamist part has a history of allowing contests at all levels and the decision on whether to challenge the top leadership would ultimately lie with the delegates. 'As of now, I am not aware whether there will be contests for the posts of president or deputy president. Recent media reports had speculated that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang might step down due to health concerns, though this has been denied by party leaders. Utusan reproted that the Pengkalan Chepa PAS Youth wing has nominated vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah for the deputy president post. The incumbent, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, reportedly said he would consider the nominations before making a decision.

AI deepfakes of PM, tycoons used in scams
KUALA LUMPUR: Scammers are using artificial intelligence (AI) to create hyper-realistic videos featuring politicians, business moguls, and celebrities. These videos are used to lure unsuspecting people into fraudulent investment schemes. MCA's Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said today that RM2.11 billion was lost to these scams last year. A total of 13,956 cases were reported. These AI-generated deepfake videos often depict influential figures — including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, tycoon Tan Sri Robert Kuok, former chief justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Capital A Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes — promoting fake investment and get-rich-quick schemes. "The AI-generated videos look so real that people can't tell the difference. Anyone watching would think it is the prime minister himself asking the public to invest, unaware that it's an AI-generated fake." Chong said this at Wisma MCA. He said 85 per cent of victims were convinced to invest after watching fake promotional videos featuring seemingly genuine endorsements from public figures. "If not for the Tamil accent in one of the videos, I too might have believed it was real," he said. This, he added, highlights just how convincing the content can be. "These videos have become rampant over the past four to five months, spreading through Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram — making them easily accessible." He said that while authorities such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission are removing flagged content, scammers continue to stay one step ahead. "They're smarter. The moment one video is taken down, they generate a new one and continue to deceive people." To illustrate how easily victims are ensnared, he and several MCA members conducted a simple sting operation. They pooled RM1,100 and responded to a link beneath one of the scam videos. "Within minutes, a scammer contacted our team member to explain the 'investment' and its returns. "He played along and invested RM1,100. He was promised a return of RM5,000 the following week. 'The next day, they demanded another US$250 as a processing fee. At that point, we confirmed it was a scam and stopped engaging." While it is difficult to prevent scammers from using technology in increasingly creative ways, he said public awareness remains the strongest defence. "We must flag and tag such videos as fake whenever they appear on our feed. "This way, the next person who sees it might think twice before falling for the scam." He said social media platforms should strengthen detection mechanisms and called on authorities to tighten legislation against the misuse of AI-generated media.

FT Minister Zaliha denies rumours Tuaran MP appointed Labuan Corp chairman, says no decision made yet
LABUAN, July 5 — Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has dismissed rumours that Member of Parliament for Tuaran Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau has been appointed as the new chairman of Labuan Corporation (LC). She clarified that no appointment has been made thus far, and that the Federal Government through Department of Federal Territories is still in the process of evaluating several qualified candidates for the leadership role at Labuan's local authority. 'The rumours and speculations circulating about the Tuaran MP assuming the position are not true. We are carefully scrutinising several potential individuals for the chairman post,' Dr Zaliha said in a statement to Bernama today. She stressed the government remains committed to identifying the most suitable candidate who will serve in the best interest of Labuan's socio-economic development. 'We are seriously looking into the right person to lead Labuan Corporation, someone capable of driving the island's growth and addressing the needs of the community,' she said. Dr Zaliha also urged the public to refrain from spreading unfounded claims and speculation, which could mislead and confuse the people of Labuan. The post of LC chairman became vacant following former Kimanis MP Tan Sri Anifah Aman concluding his term last month. — Bernama
