Timeline: How Orlando Pirates' season turned into a nightmare
Orlando Pirates looked set to win at least a treble this season, but things went south quickly for Jose Riveiro's men.
In October, the Sea Robbers won the MTN8 and were top of the Betway Premiership after five matches played. At the time, it looked like Pirates would add on to their MTN8 title given how they played earlier in the season.
Despite a mini-slump in January and February, Jose Riveiro's men were still on a hunt to claim the CAF Champions League, Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup.
On 3 April, Pirates released a statement on Riveiro's departure. With three months remaining in his contract, many Bucs fans hoped the players would go all out and win several trophies for their coach.
25 April: Pyramids 3-2 Pirates
Three weeks later, the Buccaneers crashed out of the CAF CL semi-finals before losing to Sekhukhune United a few days after the agonising defeat. That saw Pirates now hoping for rivals Mamelodi Sundowns to drop points in the league.
10 May: Chiefs 2-1 Pirates
Despite back-to-back league wins against Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows, the title was already out of reach for the Sea Robbers. The only chance of saving their season was a win against Amakhosi in the Nedbank Cup, but Riveiro's men suffered a 2-1 defeat, making it the first time the Spanish tactician had lost a final in his three years at Pirates.
Under the Spaniard, Orlando Pirates only lost eight of the 47 matches this season, but only three defeats spoiled their campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs set to snatch rising star Ime Okon from rivals
Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly closing in on a major signing ahead of the 2025/2026 season, with highly-rated defender Ime Okon believed to be on the brink of joining the Soweto giants. Despite impressing, no deal came to fruition, and he returned to see out his contract with Matsatsantsa. This presented Chiefs with a golden opportunity, and they appear poised to capitalise. Okon recently featured for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup. Which further strengthens his reputation as one of South Africa's most promising young centre-backs. His potential, youth, and international exposure make him an attractive prospect for a club eager to rebuild and restore glory. With negotiations believed to be at an advanced stage. Tepid Bafana held by Tanzania

Picture: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix An experimental Bafana Bafana failed to spark against Tanzania in an unremarkable goalless draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday. And the Belgian's competitive record is spectacular enough to suggest it will be put to good use in September's Fifa World Cup qualifiers. Bafana struggle This was a painful watch in general, however, as Bafana laboured to break down a Tanzanian side that seemed content with a draw from kick off. Three players were handed their Bafana debuts from the start against Tanzania. Orlando Pirates pair Deano Van Rooyen and Simphiwe Selepe along with TS Galaxy's Khulumani Ndumane got their chance to shine on the international stage. It was one of Bafana's regulars, Oswin Appollis, who shone in the first half. In just the fourth minute, the Polokwane City forward pounced on a mistake in the Tanzania penalty area, but his effort was cleared off the line. On the half hour mark, a neat passing move found Thalente Mbatha in space on the edge of the box, but he fired way off target. And on the stroke of half time, it was Appollis who threatened again, his long-range strike comfortably saved by Tanzania goalkeeper Suleiman Ali. In truth, the first half was a difficult watch, with neither side really able to string too much together in the attacking third. Greater intent Bafana came out with far more intent after the break. Tshepang Moremi nearly latched onto Mbatha's fine long range pass. Moremi then saw his fizzing long-range effort tipped wide by Ali. Pirates winger Mohau Nkota also got on the pitch for his debut, while Relebohile Mofokeng entered the field at the same time. And Mofokeng blew a great chance to score in stoppage time when he was gifted possession and chipped the ball over Ali but onto the roof of the net.
