Greg Olsen sends candid message to Tom Brady over 'resentment' on NFL great replacing him at Fox

Daily Mail23-07-2025
Greg Olsen has tried to cool any tension between himself and Fox NFL colleague Tom Brady before the beginning of the new season.
Olsen was replaced by Brady as the No 1 analyst for Fox Sports last year, with the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback beginning a 10-year deal worth $375million.
Up to then, former Carolina Panthers man Olsen was the main man and adored by Fox viewers. He still has a role with the team, but Brady is very much the top dog.
Earlier this year, Olsen admitted 'resentment' felt 'not too far off' in some brutal quotes about being replaced by Brady. But now, with the new season on the horizon, he has been keen to show that time is healer.
In an interview on 'Bussin With The Boys', he explained: 'I have zero animosity toward Tom. I don't sit there saying "I hope their broadcast stinks" at all.
'That is independent from my personal aspirations of, I want to take this to the highest level I can. I want to call Super Bowls. I want to get to a top crew.
'I want to continue to elevate and see how high in the industry that I can get. Those things can both simultaneously exist.
'My ascension individually does not have to come at the expense of him. It does not have to come in the animosity toward him. If he has a long career in this industry, so can I. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. That's the way I look at it.'
Brady called the Super Bowl in New Orleans in February, where the Philadelphia Eagles turned Kansas City Chiefs' three-peat hopes to dust with a 40-22 win.
Olsen, 40, insisted that he and Brady and friends who talk outside of football about their families.
'Tom and I's relationship, both professionally and personally, is really good,' Olsen continued. 'We've formed a better personal relationship since he joined Fox.
'We've spent a lot of time on the phone, talking broadcasting but also talking about raising teenage daughters. We have a lot of other things in common.'
It marks a shift in approach for Olsen from earlier in the year. Speaking to The Athletic in January, he said: 'I don't think resentment's probably accurate. But I also think it's not too far off, if I'm being honest.
'It's hard to sit there and watch games that over the last couple of years you were preparing for and you were calling. And then you're sitting there on your couch and you're watching the game, you're almost kind of broadcasting the game in your brain.
'You're saying, 'Oh, man, what would I have said on this play? There was so much to talk about there. That would've been super fun to dive into.' So you're kinda driving yourself crazy with all these what-if scenarios as you're watching the game.
'It's very hard now to watch the games and just sit back and watch.'
Brady's first season was not without its hard points. He was criticized early on for how much color he was providing, as well as some other less excusable mistakes - such as saying Josh Allen used to run 'like a spaz'.
But it was widely accepted that Brady got better as the season progressed. The first NFL game Fox will broadcast in the 2025 season will see Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals against the Cleveland Browns.

Tigers' Chris Paddack seeks revenge in rematch vs. Twins

August 17 - Chris Paddack will take the mound on Sunday afternoon with a new jersey, a familiar ballpark and a fresh chapter in his career when the Detroit Tigers visit the Minnesota Twins. In his first start in Minneapolis since being traded to the Tigers by the Twins on July 28, the right-hander will face the team that once pinned hopes on his arm -- and ultimately moved on. But Paddack (4-10, 4.76 ERA) has allowed only one run per game in three of his last four starts. He enjoyed success against the Los Angeles Dodgers before the trade, and the Arizona Diamondbacks and White Sox after it. The lone blemish? A rocky outing against the Twins on Aug. 5, when he surrendered four runs on six hits in four innings of a 6-3 setback in his only career appearance against them. "They gave me a little taste of my own blood, you know," said Paddack, 29. "They put up four runs, and I only had one swing-and-miss, to Royce (Lewis), and it came in the fourth inning." Now Paddack will get a chance to redeem himself against the Twins. In his three starts with the Tigers, Paddack has thrown nearly 72 percent of his pitches for strikes and has allowed only one walk. "Definitely going into this outing with a little revenge in mind," he said. "I know those guys were good friends and good teammates, but they're trying to take food off my plate, and it comes down to who wants it more." Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said he likes what he's seeing from his team in this series. "Our guys are settling in, and there is a lot of belief that we can win every night," he said. The Tigers have won four games in a row and six of their past seven, while the Twins have lost three straight, five of their last six and have struggled offensively. Minnesota's starting pitcher for Sunday's game has yet to be announced. One of the few bright spots has been the play of Luke Keaschall. In 18 games to start his career, he has reached base safely 32 times, with 22 hits, eight walks and two hit-by-pitch. In the Twins' 8-5 loss on Saturday, the rookie was 2-for-3 with two runs. Keaschall played a big role in the Twins' win on Aug. 5 over Paddack. In his first game back since fracturing his forearm in April, Keaschall hammered a cutter over the left field wall in Detroit for a two-run homer. Another player Minnesota is turning to spark the offense is James Outman, who made his Twins debut Saturday. The 28-year-old outfielder was acquired at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers for reliever Brock Stewart and replaced Alan Roden, who was placed on the injured list with a sprained thumb. The Twins hope Outman re-emerges as the outfielder who played in 151 games for the Dodgers in 2023 and finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting. That season he hit .248 with 86 runs and 70 RBIs. "He's going to get opportunities to play, and to hopefully get into a good rhythm and show us some things he can do," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. "I'd like to get to know the player a little bit." --Field Level Media

Royals' fans get first in-person look at P Ryan Bergert as he faces White Sox

August 17 - Ryan Bergert has enjoyed a solid start to his Kansas City tenure and now has a chance to help the Royals continue their home dominance of the Chicago White Sox. The 25-year-old rookie right-hander will seek a third straight solid start Sunday afternoon for the Royals, who can sweep this three-game set with a 14th consecutive home win over the White Sox. Bergert (1-1, 2.87 ERA) has helped an injury-plagued rotation by allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings in each of his two starts since coming from San Diego at the trade deadline last month. The Royals acquired Bergert in a deal that sent backup catcher Freddy Fermin to the Padres. This will be the first Royals' home start for Bergert, who has yielded six hits, three walks and has struck out 10 in facing Boston and Minnesota with his new club. The Royals lost both games, but that didn't dim the enthusiasm of Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro about Bergert. "He's throwing the ball exceptionally well," Quatraro told the club's official website of Bergert, who has made 13 appearances and nine starts since his major league debut on April 26. "We're really happy with that. We think he merits continuing to get starts." Sunday will mark Bergert's first look at the White Sox, who have been outscored 65-15 during a 13-game losing streak at Kansas City. Chicago last won there on Sept. 6, 2023. On Saturday, John Rave and Mike Yastrzemski hit solo homers and Michael Lorenzen came off the injury list to throw four scoreless innings in Kansas City's 6-2 victory. Trying to reach a wild-card position in the American League, the Royals are back above .500 and are amid a 12-5 stretch at home. They have won four of their past five games overall. Bobby Witt Jr. singled Saturday and is batting .515 during a 17-game hitting streak against the White Sox. "He unbelievable," teammate Noah Cameron told the Royals' official website about Witt. However, Witt is 3-for-11 with four strikeouts against Sunday's scheduled Chicago starter, Davis Martin (4-9, 4.17 ERA), who has a 1-7 record and 5.14 ERA on the road this season. Martin yielded four runs and seven hits during 4 1/3 innings of the White Sox's 10-0 loss at Kansas City on May 8. However, the right-hander, who pitched into the sixth inning and was charged with three runs during Chicago's 6-4 home win over Cleveland on Aug. 10, gave up only solo homers to Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino, while striking out seven with a walk, over six innings of a 7-2 victory against the Royals on June 6. He did not figure into the decision. It's uncertain if Pasquantino, who had five hits and nine RBIs in three games entering Saturday's contest, will be available after he left the game early with a heat-related illness. For Chicago, with another hit Saturday, Lenyn Sosa is batting .323 in his last 17 games. However, the White Sox's potential double-play combination of the future in rookies Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth are a combined 3-for-15 in the series. They are part of the promising youth movement for Chicago, but the White Sox still are 35 games below .500 and have totaled three runs during a three-game losing streak. The team has lost 10 of the last 12 overall. "We are still very much figuring out how this group is going to work together," Chicago manager Will Venable said. --Field Level Media

Bikini-clad Livvy Dunne shows off her flexibility in stunning new pictures from Georgia lake trip

Livvy Dunne may have retired from gymnastics in April, but the former LSU star showed that she hasn't lost any flexibility as she shared a series of pictures from her Georgia lake trip. After traveling to Montauk with her MLB boyfriend Paul Skenes last month, Dunne has been spending time in Lake Oconee with her sister Julz and other friends. And the national champion gymnast showed off her skills in one photo posted to her Instagram, as she performed a handstand on the dock while wearing a leopard-print bikini. In other photos which made up the carousel post to her feed, Dunne could be seen smiling as she posed by the water in a blue swimsuit, while she and her sister Julz embraced each other in another picture. Dunne even tried her hand at water skiing, as she posted an action shot of her holding on for dear life. She captioned her post: 'The summer I turned into a lake girl.' The snaps surfaced on Saturday after Dunne shared a similarly happy picture to her story on Friday, as she beamed at the camera while sitting at a lakeside cabin. Earlier in the week, the social media influencer made headlines when she weighed in on one of the internet's most viral moments - Taylor Swift's appearance on the 'New Heights' podcast, hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce. Swift, who has faced backlash from some male NFL fans for the screen time she received while cheering on boyfriend Travis during Chiefs games, leaned into the criticism during the show. 'I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens - it's more of me,' the pop icon joked. Dunne reposted the clip to her story, adding 'She gets it' - signaling her support for Swift's response. It's been several months since Dunne - who had been a fifth-year senior at LSU - formally announced her emotional retirement from gymnastics. In a video released by LSU, she narrated: 'Time flies when you're having fun. Something said when you're enjoying yourself to the point time seems to slip away from you. And that's exactly how the past 20 years in this sport have felt. She even tried her hand at water skiing and posted and action shot of her holding on 'The highs, the lows, making the USA national team and competing for our country, every risk was worth the reward. Finishing my career over the past five years of the best university in the world has been an incredible journey, and I'm forever grateful.' She continued: 'Gymnastics, you have filled my heart and shaped be a part of me. You've shaped me into the person I am today, creating memories and sisterhoods that will last a life support. You are my first love. 'To my family, especially my parents. Thank you for everything, for supporting me through it all, and to my childhood coaches from New Jersey and the LSU coaching staff, thank you for pushing me to be great. and yes, time did fly by, and I will cherish every memory for the rest of my life. 'Thank you for everything gymnastics. You were so good to me.' While Dunne will no longer be competing in gymnastics, she's remained around the sports world as she's cheered on her boyfriend Skenes - who is considered one of the best pitchers in baseball.
