Sol de Janeiro coconut scent is back after fans begged for its return
Fragrance fans have been lamenting for years the loss of Sol de Janeiro's 'most gorgeous' coconut scent. In fact, Cheirosa 39 was so missed that there's even a petition with over 3,000 signatures who begged for its return.
Thankfully, the hair and body fragrance mist is finally back - and shoppers can get a 90ml bottle for £24 on LookFantastic. This summery scent opens up with a decadent coconut cream top note that instantly transports the wearer to beachy days ahead. Its wrapped up in a heart of vanilla and tropical orchid before settling down into a heart of toasted praline.
It has been suggested that Cheirosa 39 is quite similar to Cheirosa 71 but 'with more coconut'. The latter has regularly been praised for being a sister to the cult classic Cheirosa 62 for cooler months with it's toasted nuts, chocolate and caramelised vanilla notes.
While the limited-edition mist hasn't pulled in any reviews yet on LookFantastic, over on Fragrantica fragrance buffs have been buzzing about the scent for years. One fan said: "The most gorgeous coconut body mist to walk this earth. Luckily I had managed to get my hands on a 90ml through second hand; but omg it's so so worth the money i spent. I used two sprays alone, and it's lasted all day. The most delicious coconut opens it up immediately, then you get a white chocolatey dry down on my clothes atleast."
A second penned: "I grabbed a small bottle at Sephora before this scent was discontinued, I wish I would've gotten a few big bottles. This is the most long lasting body mist in my collection and it smells so good. Creamy coconut and vanilla, perfect for layering. I love this layered with Yum Boujee Marshmallow by Kayali and Yum Pistachio Gelato, perfect long lasting combos that are guaranteed to get you compliments." For those interested in the Kayali scents mentioned in this review, both are priced at £79 each for a 50ml bottle. They're available at Cult Beauty and Boots.
A third shopper wrote: "Sol de Janeiro announced on their instagram that they will be re-releasing this one. I can't wait to finally try it."
A fourth added: "The fragrance community's BIGGEST loss known to mankind. This is the MOST gorgeous coconut scent and nothing else even comes close to it. I'm beyond upset that i got into it after it was discontinued. I ended up buying 4 of them from resellers and i still fear running out of this spray that i adore so much. I can't find anything quite like it at all- the other coconut scents tend to be sweeter or tropical."
The main critique the scent has received online is how difficult it is to find. Shoppers might also want to keep in mind it doesn't have any caramel notes which Sol de Janeiro is widely recognised for.

I'm obsessed with the Sol de Janeiro scent & found a dupe £2.99 candle that smells the same at Home Bargains
SOL de Janeiro has racked up a huge fanbase thanks to their gorgeous scents - and now you may be able to pick up a candle that smells like it too. Shoppers have raved about a candle in Home Bargains' Santa de Cruz set, which is said to be a similar aroma to their Sol de Janeiro 62. 3 Shopper Em, who posts under @emhayes2, claims their orange Vanilla Almond & Salted Caramel scent is a great dupe for the smell. They wrote in a video: 'If you love Sol de Janeiro 62, RUN to Home Bargains. 'Home Bargains has done it again. 'It's divine.' Similar to the dupe candle, the Sol de Janeiro 62 scent is said to smell like salted caramel, but also has notes of 'alluring pistachio.' Thankfully the Home Bargains candle won't break the bank, and is just £2.99. Sephora. SOL DE JANEIRO CRAZE According to the website, the Sol de Janeiro brand was 'named after the 'Sun of January,' when the sun hits its highest point during Brazilian summers. Their star products are their skin-tightening Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (pronounced as 'boom boom cream') and their Perfume Mist. Celebs such as Selena Gomez and Hillary Duff are counted among its loyal fanbase, and it has spiked in popularity on social media. Primark adds brand new Sol De Janeiro dupes to its beauty aisles and they're perfect for keeping you smelling sweet on holiday too The company was founded by Heela Yang, who had previously worked as a director of marketing at Clinique and as a manager at Lancôme. Korean-American Heela and her husband moved from New York City to Brazil in 2008, and she was inspired to make the product after falling in love with their inclusive beach culture. In 2021, L'Occitane Group acquired a majority stake in Sol de Janeiro, and valued the company at US$450million (£350million). However, their Bum Bum cream also comes with a pretty hefty price tag, currently retailing for £28.80 at Boots. But it claims to have 'skin-tightening' benefits. The product description reads: 'A fast-absorbing body cream with an addictive scent and a visibly tightening, smoothing formula that adds a hint of shimmer to skin.' Get that coveted Brazilian Bum Bum Cream effect and experience absolute body joy with this luxurious cream. 'Infused with powerful, caffeine-rich guarana and a Brazilian blend of skin-loving ingredients, the award-winning formula melts in and visibly smooths the skin while imparting a touch of shimmer. 'Notes of salted caramel and pistachio create an addictive scent.'
