During his 18-month-long military service, BTS' V not only kept his fans entertained with new projects but also managed to win numerous awards.
Even when BTS' Kim Taehyung, aka V, was wearing the military uniform and fulfilling his duties under the Special Task Force of the Military Police Corps, he proved that he was a real pop star. Following his enlistment in December 2023, ARMYs expected a quiet period. But they were taken by surprise when the BTS star continued to release new projects even during his 18-month-long service.
Now that his mandatory service ended on June 10, let's take a look at all his accomplishments in the past year and a half.
V released his first solo album, Layover, in September 2023, just months before enlisting in the military. On December 20, 2023, it became the top-selling solo album in Japan. According to Oricon Charts' year-end rankings, Layover ranked at No. 16.
Making A Mark On Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Charts
V's song Wherever U R with singer-songwriter UMI made it onto both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart and the Hot R&B Songs chart on Billboard. This was the first time that the BTS singer entered the charts as a soloist.
Won Big At The Seoul Music Awards
At the 33rd Seoul Music Awards, which took place in January 2024, V won a 'Main Award", and his album Layover was named Fan Choice of the Year. It was the first time he was nominated for his solo project.
Went Viral For IU's MV Love Wins All
V starred in IU's music video Love Wins All, which became a hit. Wedding-theme photos of him and IU trended on the Chinese social media platform Weibo with over 100 million views. The MV itself has a whopping 95 million views on YouTube.
Bagged His First-Ever Korea Brand Award
Thanks to his appearances in variety shows like In the Soop: Friendcation and Jinny's Kitchen, Taehyung was honoured with the Male Idol Variety Star award at the 2024 Korea Brand Awards, which took place in January 2024.
Topped Song Downloads In South Korea
His solo English single FRI(END)S, released in March 2024, was a hit. The track topped South Korea's Circle Chart's Download Chart, even without any promotions.
Won Two K-pop Music Show Trophies
Despite not actively promoting his single FRI(END)S, the song managed to secure the first-place spot on the music show M Countdown for two weeks straight.
Won First iHeartRadio Music Award
V's solo album Layover won the Favourite Debut Album award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2024.
Peaked On The UK Charts
FRI(END)S reached No. 13 on the U.K. Official Chart, leaving behind his song Slow Dancing, which peaked at No. 24 on the same chart in 2023.
Released His Own Photobook
Expanding his creativity, V surprised his fans by releasing his own photobook in July 2024. Titled Type 1, the book features peaceful everyday moments of the K-pop idol, where he enjoys his quiet life.
Won Honours At FACT Music Awards
Even without attending the award show, BTS' V won big during the 2023 and 2024 Fact Music Awards. He bagged the award for Best Music – Fall in 2023 for Slow Dancing and the Best Music – Spring award in 2024 for FRI(END)S.
100 Million Views On Love Me Again MV
In August 2024, V's music video for Love Me Again, a single from his album Layover, hit the 100 million mark on YouTube, that too, in less than a year of its release.
Honoured At The First-Ever Korea Grand Music Awards
At the first Korea Grand Music Awards in November 2024, the 29-year-old K-pop idol was awarded the Trend of the Year in the Solo Artist category.
Won His First MAMA Award
After several nominations in 2022 and 2023, Taehyung finally won a MAMA award in 2024. He was named one of the Top 10 Fan Choice Male Artists alongside RM, Jimin and Jungkook.
Song With His Best Friend
V teamed up with his close friend, ballad singer, Park Hyo Shin, for a cosy winter duet titled Winter Ahead, a jazz-pop that fans loved with all their heart.
Sang A Rendition Of White Christmas
In December 2024, V fulfilled his dream by releasing White Christmas, as a duet with the late legend Bing Crosby. This holiday song touched fans all over the world.
Topped Holiday Charts Twice
Both Winter Ahead and White Christmas reached No. 1 on Billboard's Holiday Digital Song Sales chart within a week of each other. That turned out to be a perfect gift for his birthday, as he turned 29 on December 30.
Fans Donated In Yeontan's Memory
In December last year, V shared that his beloved pet dog Yeontan had passed away. Following this, his fans chose to raise money in Yeontan's memory and donate to the Korean Animal Welfare Association for V's birthday that year. Fans managed to raise around 1.23 million Korean Won (approx. $908).
Donated To Wildfire Relief
In March 2025, V donated 200 million Korean Won (approx. $147,504) to the Korean Red Cross to help his country recover from the devastating wildfires.
V's hard work as a soloist was recognised internationally when he received a nomination at the first-ever Music Awards Japan in its Special Award: Oshi-Katsu Request Artist of the Year category.

2025 VMAs nominations spark controversy over BTS' Jin and J-Hope snubs as all BLACKPINK members get nods: 'Disclose criteria'

The 2025 Video Music Awards just revealed their nomination list, and things immediately got messy, especially in the K-pop category. Fans expected a little drama, sure, but not this level of confusion. BTS's Jin and J-Hope, both of whom dropped some of the strongest solo tracks this year, didn't make the cut. Meanwhile, all four BLACKPINK members landed solo nods, and fans are already coming up with scathing accusations. The nominations were supposed to celebrate the best in K-pop, but right now, it feels more like a popularity contest, according to BTS ARMY. VMAs 2025 spark chaos over K-pop nominations The Best K‑Pop category at the 2025 VMAs includes seven nominees: Whiplash by Aespa, Like Jennie by Jennie, Who by Jimin, Earthquake by Jisoo, Born Again by Lisa featuring Doja Cat and Raye, Chk Chk Boom by Stray Kids, and Toxic Till the End by Rosé. While all four BLACKPINK members landed solo nominations, Jimin is the only BTS member to appear on the list. #VMAs Best K-pop nominees:Aespa – 'Whiplash' Jennie – 'Like Jennie ' Jimin – 'Who'Jisoo – 'Earthquake' Lisa ft. Doja Cat & Raye – 'Born Again' Stray Kids – 'Chk Chk Boom' Rosé – 'Toxic Till the End' The BTS snub: Jin and J-Hope left out One of the biggest talking points this year is who didn't make the cut, and at the centre of it are BTS's Jin and J-Hope. Both artists released solo work that not only performed well commercially but also made a serious cultural impact. J-Hope's tracks Killin' It Girl, Mona Lisa, and Sweet Dreams emerged as chartbusters, dominating streaming platforms and showcasing his range as a performer. Meanwhile, Jin's Heart on the Window and Don't Say You Love Me struck a chord with listeners, pulling in massive numbers globally—numbers that, in many cases, outpaced those of several nominees. But neither name appears on the VMAs list. Only Jimin is nominated, and while fans are proud of that, it's hard to ignore how the rest of BTS was completely shut out. Fans are now questioning whether BLACKPINK's agency YG Entertainment had a hand in shaping the lineup, with some openly suggesting that industry politics may have played a bigger role than actual performance or impact. 'Disclose nomination criteria': ARMYs enraged One fan on X wrote, "Jin has better chart results than more than half of this list. He has better streams, better sales, and a better debut on billboard charts. He is still charting, unlike half of these people. Why is he not nominated? What's the criteria? Where's the transparency? Disclose nomination criteria @vmas." "Jin has accomplished way more than anyone on this list, yet he didn't get a single nomination. Just wondering, did the rules change, or is something else going on?" tweeted another ARMY. A third added, "Vmas are so annoyingly ambiguous with their noms, like how are Jin and hobi not there… It's laughable. anyway, let's make sure we win this for Jimin!!" Check out more reactions below: then how come Jin and Jhope didn't get nominated? @vmas b!tchass answer the way jin adn jhope were robbed off the VMA'S is we have know they r attendance just do our best for jimin tho(fuck u vmas) Let's be serious, how come neither Jin nor Tae or even Jhope were nominated for the VMAS while #her, who was a total flop, is nominated???? Overall nominations: Gaga leads, Rosé hits a milestone Outside of the K-pop category, the 2025 VMAs are gearing up to Lady Gaga's show. She leads the pack with 12 nominations, just behind Taylor Swift's record. Bruno Mars follows with 11 nods, and Kendrick Lamar scores 10. BLACKPINK's Rosé makes history as well, tying for eighth place overall with 8 nominations, making her the first member of the group to reach that number as a solo artist. 2025 MTV Video Music Awards – Full nominee list Video of the Year The biggest category of the night is stacked. Hidden Love actor Zhao Lusi claims she was locked in hotel room, called ‘cursed' when she fell ill as agency stole $350k: ‘They told me I might be blacklisted'

Chinese actor Zhao Lusi, known for popular shows like Hidden Love and The Romance of Tiger and Rose, has accused her management agency Galaxy KU Media, of emotional and financial manipulation at a time when she was severely ill. In a post shared on Weibo, Zhao Lusi accused them of making financial transactions on her behalf without her authorisation. In another livestream, Zhao claimed that instead of providing her with medical support, the team locked her in a hotel room when her health was rapidly deteriorating. Zhao shared a detailed account of her troubles and claimed that the agency withdrew 2.05 million yuan (around $350k) from her studio's account after they made her team sign off on a split earning system. She claimed that the studio was dismantled without her consent and they refused to return the operational control even when she repeatedly asked for it. Zhao claimed that she was warned against speaking out or taking any legal action, and was told that she would be 'blacklisted' if she went public with her accusations. 'They told me I might be blacklisted and should stay quiet. Is that what they call a solution?' she asked. Zhao shared that after she fell ill, the agency that had previously assured her of their support, left her alone to bear all financial losses. She also claimed that they refused to terminate her contract so she was stuck in a financial mess while dealing with her ill health. It has been reported that Zhao's health started deteriorating in December 2023 while she was filming Almost Lover. Reportedly, her health went down so rapidly that she lost the ability to walk and talk. Fans of the actor claim that she was shooting with oxygen support and was using a wheelchair while on set, and all this while, she was being pushed to shoot by her management agency. ALSO READ | Not Jungkook or V, this BTS star alone powered HYBE's 85% North American revenue boost in Q1 2025 Days after she accused Galaxy KU Media of financial manipulation, she conducted a livestream where she claimed that they denied her any medical care during her illness. They allegedly said she was 'cursed' and 'locked' her in a hotel room. 'I was sick, and instead of taking me to see a doctor, you locked me in a hotel,' she said. Fans of the actor have been putting together a timeline to show that the actor was severely sick when she was being forced to work by her agency, and have been sharing her old posts where she hinted that she was being mistreated by her agency. Reportedly, the posts go as far back as 2019. As per these reports, she allegedly sent an SOS message in December 2022 to her friend Zhirui. Her condition, as per reports, was revealed as aphasia — a condition that impacts speech. However, later Zhao's close friend, Song Nanxi, alleged that the actor has been emotionally abused by the head of Galaxy KU Media for years. These allegations were repeated by her stylist and assistant, who claim she has received bad treatment for years.
