Nicolas Cage lookalikes take over London as they channel the Hollywood movie star in hilarious contest to celebrate his latest film release
The Hollywood actor, 61, has had an illustrious film career spanning over three decades, so it is little wonder die hard fans gathered to mark his latest cinematic offering.
Taking over London's Prince Charles cinema near Leicester Square, several fans pulled off their best impressions of the Hollywood hunk - with varying results.
The winner of the contest turned out to be Daniel Breuer, who managed to capture Cage's childless criminal character Hi from 1987's Raising Arizona - complete with Hawaiian shirt and moustache.
Speaking to The Guardian following his win, Daniel quipped: 'I've had a whole lifetime of ridicule and this is my moment of glory.'
He noted that he'd been regularly compared to famous people all his life including Al Pacino and Jerry Seinfeld, but said that 'Nicolas Cage has been the only constant.'
Nicolas Cage lookalikes descended upon the capital on Friday for a hilarious contest to celebrate the release of the his latest film, The Surfer
Meanwhile, Patrick Doran put on an animated display with his blond hair and white vest as he impersonated Nicolas' character character Cameron Poe from 1997's Con Air.
Like Daniel, he too has had a lifetime of being compared to the Ghost Rider actor.
He added to the publication: 'When I was younger, people used to say I looked like a young Nic Cage. Now it's just: "You look like Nic Cage." I take it as a great compliment.'
The group of lookalikes certainly appeared to be having the time of their lives as they larked around and posed for selfies with curious passersby.
Unfortunately, the real Nicolas Cage failed to put in an appearance, with competitors having to make do with a life-sized cardboard cutout instead.
It comes after Nicolas attended his son Weston's wedding during a romantic outdoor ceremony in Beverly Hills - only weeks after the singer learned of his fate in his felony assault trial.
The National Treasure actor could be seen standing on the left side of the altar near his son, 34, in an Instagram video recently uploaded by one of the guests.
The nuptials took place at The London West Hollywood last week on April 25, sources informed TMZ.
In the short snippet, Cage - who sported a classic black tuxedo for the special day - watched as Weston and fiancée Jenifer Alexa Canter exchanged vows underneath the warm California sunshine.
His son was also dressed for the occasion in a black ensemble while the bride wore a strapless, white ballgown that flowed down into a short train.
A sheer white veil was pinned at the back of her brunette locks which were styled into elegant curls.
Flower petals led up to the altar which was placed on what appeared to be the rooftop of the hotel.
Nicolas was possibly part of the wedding party but it is not known if Weston's mother Christina Fulton was in attendance - after she accused him of viciously attacking her last year.

BBC edit ANOTHER MasterChef contestant out of scandal-ridden series after axing hosts John Torode and Gregg Wallace - and sparking fan fury
Yet another MasterChef contestant has been edited out of the scandal-ridden cooking series - despite the BBC having already sacked hosts John Torode and Gregg Wallace. Sarah Shafi and another contestant who wanted to remain anonymous said they did not want to appear in the series given 'recent events', according to The Sun. Sarah previously said she felt 'pressured' to accept show bosses' offer to cut her from the final edits completely. This means the show's upcoming season, yet to be aired, will be heavily edited the whole way through so as not to include two competitors. It follows a report which upheld damning claims against once-beloved host Gregg Wallace, and use of unacceptable language by John Torode. At the end of last year, Wallace was accused of making sexualised jokes and other inappropriate remarks towards a range of women, with claims dating back as far as 19 years. Since then, more than 50 people have approached the BBC with fresh claims about the presenter - including allegations he groped a MasterChef worker and pulled his trousers down in front of another. Wallace denies the claims, but was sacked by BBC bosses in November last year. The upheld complaint against Torode related to his allegedly using an extremely offensive racist term on the set of MasterChef in 2018. The beloved cooking competition has since been mired in scandal, with many watchers and even former contestants calling for the series to be axed. Sarah Shafi, of Leeds, said she felt airing MasterChef would send the wrong message about what happens when women report misconduct by men in positions of power. The 57-year-old told The Guardian: 'I said: "Axe the show, don't air the show. I'm asking you not to air the show." 'Prominent figures have been abusing their power. What message does that send out to women?' Sarah revealed she was left 'flabbergasted' after being edited out of the hit cooking competition following a heated conversation where she felt pressured to agree to the cut. 'Women are being silenced,' she said. Sarah claimed she was 'eyed up and ogled' by Gregg Wallace on the show, while accusing the TV host of making an 'off' comment about his reputation with women. Unable to remember the exchange verbatim, she told Newsnight: 'I just stood there, I didn't know how to respond to that. And that I just thought, "Where's that come from? Why was he saying that to me?" 'And then later he came a bit closer and made a comment that I was really amazing and I thought, "It's weird, but I'll take it." But I thought, "I just don't like it." I felt it was off.' MasterChef viewers have been left divided as the controversial 21st series arrived on BBC iPlayer before its TV premiere after the BBC's decision to air the episodes. The popular show return to television screens earlier this month after a last-minute scramble to re-edit it and limit the appearances of Wallace and Torode. Both presenters had been axed from hosting future iterations of the long-running cookery contest. Ahead of its debut on linear television, the first three episodes of MasterChef have been made available to watch immediately on catch up. However, as fans tuck into the under-fire culinary series, they've been left divided as they flocked to social media to share their thoughts. One viewer blasted the BBC as 'disgusting' and added that the corporation 'have nothing to be proud of'.

Diana Rigg's final 'brilliant' role in All Creatures Great and Small marked heartbreaking end to acting career
Diana Rigg was best known for her roles in Game of Thrones and All Creatures Great and Small, and she died in September 2020 Dame Diana Rigg portrayed Mrs Pumphrey in Channel 5's beloved series, All Creatures Great and Small, when it debuted during the coronavirus lockdown. The heartwarming family programme offered viewers a welcome escape during those difficult months. The quirky character Mrs Pumphrey served as one of Siegfried Farnon's (portrayed by Samuel West) patients and absolutely adored her cherished pooch, Tricki-Woo. Dame Diana passed away on September 10, 2020, aged 82, with her death occurring just days following the programme's inaugural series launch. The legendary performer died at her daughter Rachael Stirling's London residence, succumbing to cancer after receiving her diagnosis in March of that same year, reports the Express. Speaking to The Guardian, Rachael recalled: "I will never forget the look in my mother's eyes that day near the end; the 'north face of the Eiger', as my family christened it. "You have seen it in Game of Thrones, that look. As the Queen of Thorns, she used it to great effect. Fixing me with it for the first time in these last months, she said: 'Rachie, it's gone on too long - push me over the edge'." Her performance in All Creatures Great and Small was her final television appearance, bringing the curtain down on her remarkable career. She honed her craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art between 1955 and 1957, before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company several years afterwards. Her last cinema appearance came in Last Night in Soho, where she portrayed Alexandra Collins. The movie hit screens in 2021 following her passing. Her final television performance was as Mother Dorothea in Black Narcissus, which also aired posthumously. After Diana's death, Patricia Hodge stepped into her shoes for All Creatures Great and Small. The programme's cast honoured Diana's memory, with James Herriot star Nicholas Ralph telling PBS: "She was brilliant. "Any anxiety you may have had before meeting her was completely washed away as soon as you did, because she was so lovely and easy to chat to. "She had a twinkle in her eye, still had a wicked sense of humour, and she kept everyone on their toes."

Fans slam iconic 80s rockers for calling Trump appointment ‘great honour'
Kiss has infuriated fans by calling their inclusion in US President Trump's Kennedy Center Honours a 'great honour.' The 80s band has been named alongside soul singer Gloria Gaynor, country star George Strait, and actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford. This is the first Kennedy Center Honours since President Trump took over as chairman of the arts and culture center in Washington DC earlier this year. The highly controversial move has been pointed to as a sign of encroaching authoritarianism in the US, as Trump's first action was removing Biden-era appointees from the board and stacking it with loyalists. Yesterday, in a press conference to announce the honourees, Trump said: 'We'll be honouring one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Kiss. So Kiss was formed in 1973 in New York City by founding band members – and incredible people, by the way – Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss 'Kiss became a global phenomenon. Sold more than 100 million records worldwide and produced 30 gold albums and lots of other things. They produced, they made a fortune. And they're great people and they deserve it and they work hard and they're still. 'And they're going to do something very special. Kiss is going to be here a little bit before the show. I think they're gonna do something very special. We're gonna have a good time.' In response to the announcement, Gene Simmons told TMZ: 'Kiss is the embodiment of the American dream. We are deeply honoured to receive the Kennedy Center Honour.' 'From our earliest days, Kiss has embodied the American ideal that all things are possible and that hard work pays off,' adds Paul Stanley. 'The prestige of the Kennedy Center Honours cannot be overstated, and I accept this on behalf of the long legacy of Kiss and all of the band members who helped create our iconic band.' Many Kiss fans are extremely disappointed by the band's reaction, accusing them of capitulating to Trump's growing censorship of American arts. One Reddit thread saw users embroiled in a heated discussion, with @Mr_pootatohead writing: 'Is Gene going to lick Trump's boots now after saying, a couple of years ago, 'I knew him before he entered politics. Look what that gentleman did to this country and the polarization — got all the cockroaches to rise to the top. Once upon a time, you were embarrassed to be publicly racist and out there with conspiracy theories. Now it's all out in the open because he allowed it.' Would they be allowed to wear their drag-inspired costumes?' One user disagreed, writing: 'They should decline because you don't agree politically? I hate Trump personally, but the Kennedy Honours is just a PR event to celebrate American arts & culture.' In response @twoquarters posted: 'Indeed that is what it was but the accelerated movement into authoritarianism has seen a contamination of nearly all politically? No. I don't even know we are in an era where politics even works. It's far beyond that now.' X users are also displeased, with @LeeJohnson65 writing: 'Nope. I've been a KISS fan since the beginning but if they support this regime, I'm out.' @OxfordBuckeye agreed: 'Always thought Kiss were overrated garbage. This proves it.' Indeed, Trump made no mention of how critical members of the band have been of him in the past. In January 2021, as Trump sought to call the results of the 2020 election into question, Stanley described his actions as 'abhorrent,' 'mob boss behavior,' and 'a true danger to our democracy.' Four months earlier, Stanley also wrote on Twitter: 'REGARDLESS of who you support, it is incendiary & abhorrent for ANY candidate to say 'If I lose, the election is rigged. It's an insult to those who have fought for the free, safe elections we have and dangerously implies that citizens who don't share your views are the enemy.' More Trending Simmons also countered Trump's election fraud lies in 2020, posting that '60 courts in various states and 60 Judges (including Pres Trump appointed Judges) UNANIMOUSLY, and without exception, dismissed ALL allegations of a rigged that Includes Trump appointed US Attorney General Bill Barr!!!' Back in March, Trump outlined his intention to not only host the ceremony himself, but also to choose honourees who aligned with his political views. He said: 'We'll go slightly more conservative, if you don't mind, with some of the people/ There are people out there that would not be considered that are much bigger stars than the ones that were being honoured…In the past, I mean, these are radical left lunatics that have been chosen. I didn't like it. I couldn't watch it. And the host was always terrible.' View More » It seems that, according to fans, the members of Kiss are willing to put aside their beliefs for another moment in the spotlight. Got a story?
