marital journey
. His observations came in the wake of Sunjay Kapur's untimely death in June 2025 due to a cardiac arrest, reportedly caused by an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match in the United Kingdom.
Karisma Kapoor, a celebrated actress and granddaughter of cinema legend Raj Kapoor, was married to Sunjay Kapur from 2003 until their legal separation in 2016. In a conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Darshan expressed sorrow over the trajectory of Karisma's married life. According to him, her marriage represented a phase filled with disappointment and abrupt decisions. He revealed having deep insights into their relationship, largely because Karisma had been close friends with Sunjay's sister since their childhood. This longstanding bond offered Darshan a window into the events that unfolded behind the scenes.
He claimed there was a "rift" between the two right from the first day. He noted that Karisma's transition from a
Bollywood
star to a homemaker was intentional and sincere. She had envisioned a peaceful, grounded life centered around family responsibilities, far from the glamorous world she came from. According to Darshan, Karisma didn't aspire to join in the high-society lifestyle commonly associated with Delhi's elite. Instead, she longed for simplicity and domestic contentment.
However, Darshan suggested that Karisma's identity clashed with the expectations of the environment she married into. He hinted that Sunjay's family may have viewed her more as a trophy wife than an individual. He speculated that her inability to assimilate into Delhi's social circles may have played a significant role in the marriage's eventual breakdown. Despite her fame and lineage, Darshan emphasized that Karisma remained unassuming and down-to-earth.
'She was placed into a world that was not hers. Delhi has its own culture, and she wasn't fitting into it. She was in this palatial house with endless cars, but it just wasn't her world," he said.
After her separation from Sunjay, he went on to marry Priya Sachdev. Together, they had a child and often spoke publicly about raising a blended family. Priya acknowledged that Sunjay's first marriage had been far from conventional but stated that their current family dynamic embraced all the children with love and acceptance.
Suneel Darshan, who worked with Karisma in successful films like Jaanwar and Ajay, concluded his remarks by underscoring how deeply unfortunate it was that someone as kind-hearted as Karisma had to go through such emotional turmoil.

Mohit Suri, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's ‘Saiyaara' becomes the 26th biggest hit of Hindi cinema, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Dunki' and Ajay Dvegn's ‘Singham Again'
Mohit Suri's Saiyaara achieves remarkable box office success. The film stars Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Saiyaara earns Rs 248.43 crore in ten days. It surpasses Dunki and Singham Again collections. The film's success is driven by strong storytelling and music. Saiyaara's performance is notable with debutant actors. The film is expected to enter the Top 25 Hindi films soon. In an industry where box office numbers often define a film's legacy, Mohit Suri 's Saiyaara has etched its name in the annals of Hindi cinema by becoming the 26th highest-grossing Hindi film ever. With an India net collection of Rs 248.43 crore in just 10 days, the film has outpaced major star-driven releases like Shah Rukh Khan 's Dunki (Rs 227 crore) and Ajay Devgn 's Singham Again (Rs 247.86 crore). Mohit Suri Spills On 20 Years In Bollywood - Ahaan & Aneet, Alia Bhatt Dream Collab & More Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda , Saiyaara was initially viewed as a promising debut vehicle. But what followed was a box office phenomenon that not only defied expectations but also reaffirmed the power of storytelling and music-driven romance. Under the deft direction of Mohit Suri and backed by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, Saiyaara struck a chord with audiences across metros and mass belts alike. Released with solid buzz, Saiyaara opened with an impressive Rs 21.5 crore on its first Friday. What truly stunned the trade was the film's phenomenal growth over the opening weekend — Rs 26 crore on Saturday and a massive Rs 35.75 crore on Sunday. With a Week 1 total of Rs 172.75 crore, the film had already entered blockbuster territory. What followed in its second weekend cemented its status as a bonafide hit. On Day 8 (2nd Friday), Saiyaara held steady with Rs 18 crore, followed by a major jump on Saturday to Rs 26.5 crore, and then an estimated Rs 31.18 crore on Sunday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Arabian Sea Facing Apartments - Mahalaxmi, South Mumbai Lodha Bellevue Click Here Undo The 10-day total stood at a staggering Rs 248.43 crore, just enough to inch past Singham Again and Dunki, which had the backing of massive star power and franchise value. What makes Saiyaara's feat more remarkable is that it achieved this position with debutant actors in lead roles, something of this stature was seen about 25 years ago when Hrithik Roshan made his debut with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai which had made about Rs 44 crore back in 2000. If inflation is adjusted it would made about Rs 200 crore now. Saiyaara has gone past some heavyweights like Dunki which boasted the return of Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan's post-Pathaan and Jawan outing, and Singham Again brought back the reliable Ajay Devgn–Rohit Shetty duo, Saiyaara relied purely on content, emotional depth, and soul-stirring music. This surge also places Saiyaara ahead of films like Drishyam 2 (Rs 239.67 Cr), The Kerala Story (Rs 239.05 Cr), and Krrish 3 (Rs 231.79 Cr), all of which were declared blockbusters or higher. Notably, it's also breathing down the neck of URI: The Surgical Strike (Rs 244.14 Cr), which was termed an 'All Time Blockbuster.' With the release of two films in Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar on 1st August and one can expect Saiyaara to lose some steam. But the film is fully capable of entering the Top 25 hits of the Hindi cinema by the end of the day.

Dhanush Says Aanand L Rai Invested Own Money To Cast Him In Raanjhanaa: 'They Didn't Have Budget'
Last Updated: Dhanush reveals he nearly turned down Raanjhanaa due to budget issues, and shares how director Aanand L Rai personally backed him to play Kundan. Dhanush might be a big name in Tamil cinema, but back in 2013, when he was gearing up for his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa, things weren't exactly smooth sailing. In fact, he nearly walked away from the film altogether. The actor recently looked back on the film during a special fan screening celebrating its 12th anniversary. While Raanjhanaa became a cult favourite over the years, Dhanush admitted that he was close to saying no – and it all came down to the budget. 'At that time, they didn't have the right kind of budget for hiring me as the lead actor. But this man's (Aanand L Rai) passion was so strong that he just wanted me to play Kundan. He could have offered any actor this part and they would have happily come on board. After all, it's such a great part," Dhanush shared, as quoted in SCREEN. The part he's talking about – Kundan – was a lovestruck Varanasi boy whose obsession and heartbreak eventually pull him into the world of politics. According to him, director Aanand L Rai had to take a big risk to make it happen. 'He went against all odds. I don't know I am supposed to say this and I don't care! He invested his own money as well. He went all out (to cast me). He saw Kundan in me and he stayed true to his vision," Dhanush said. Even for a seasoned performer like Dhanush, the pressure was real. He revealed that stepping into the Hindi film world brought a kind of fear he hadn't experienced before. 'I was not scared during my first film. When I was written off, I was not scared. That's how I am. But for the first time, I was scared. I felt responsible. So, I was praying so hard to God that 'Somehow save this man,'" he said, reflecting on the weight of expectations. In the end, the gamble paid off. Raanjhanaa clicked with audiences and critics alike. 'They made a cult classic. It is not the story of Kundan and Zoya. It is the story of two mad men who believed in this," Dhanush added. The film also starred Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Swara Bhaskar and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and became a defining moment in Aanand L Rai's directorial career. Since Raanjhanaa, Dhanush and Aanand L Rai have teamed up again, including in the 2021 film Atrangi Re, and are working together on Tere Ishq Mein – a film Rai has said is set in 'the same world as Raanjhanaa." Though far from record-breaking, 'Superman's numbers reflect a stable theatrical presence, aided by Gunn's fresh take on the DC universe and a cast that brings renewed energy to familiar capes. With a few more days of run ahead, the film may inch closer to the Rs 50 crore milestone in India. The film features David Corenswet as the iconic Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult , Isabela Merced , Nathan Fillion , Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi in prominent roles.
