An off-duty Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer died on the morning of Aug 12 following an accident involving a motorcycle and two vans at the junction of Punggol Way and Sumang Link.
The police and the SCDF said they were alerted to the accident at about 6.45am.
The 50-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic, and his male pillion rider, 15, was taken conscious to KK Women's and Children's hospital, the authorities said.
Two male van drivers, aged 40 and 54, are assisting with police investigations, they added.
In the later part of the video, a blue tent can be seen alongside a motorcycle. Police vehicles and officers can also be seen at the accident site.
"SCDF extends our deepest condolences to the family of the late officer. SCDF is in contact with family and is providing assistance during this time of grief," SCDF said.
In a composite video posted on Singapore Roads Accident.com's Facebook page at around 12.30pm, a few people can be seen holding up a large white sheet of cloth in front of a white minivan to shield the public from viewing the victim.
This is the second fatal motorcyclist accident in two days, as reported by The Straits Times. On the evening of Aug 11, a 22-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead by SCDF paramedics after a traffic accident on PIE.
According to the latest traffic statistics from the police, the number of people killed and injured in traffic accidents hit a five-year high in 2024, with 139 traffic accidents resulting in fatalities in 2024.
Motorcyclists remain disproportionately involved in traffic incidents that result in injuries or death, police statistics showed.
Motorcycles made up 14.7 per cent of Singapore's total vehicle population in 2024, but motorcyclists or pillion riders were involved in 55.2 per cent of all traffic accidents and accounted for 59.9 per cent of traffic fatalities that year, said the police.

'ICA will review Mr Ong Beng Seng's PR since he has been convicted and sentenced,' added the spokesperson. Ong, who is a Malaysian Citizen, was fined $30,000 on Aug 15 after he had pleaded guilty earlier to one charge of abetting the obstruction of justice in a case linked to former transport minister S Iswaran. The judge agreed with the prosecution and defence that judicial mercy should be exercised in this case due to Ong's ill health. Motorcyclist tries to overtake car but gets injured after car door opens; viral dashcam video draws mixed reactions

SINGAPORE: A traffic accident along Orchard Road has stirred intense discussion online after dashcam footage captured the moment a motorcyclist collided with the open door of a stationary car. The incident occurred outside Pacific Plaza on Wednesday (13 Aug) when a motorcyclist attempted to overtake a white Toyota car from the left. As the passenger of the car began to alight, the door swung open unexpectedly, causing the motorcycle to slam into it. The rider was thrown sideways onto the road. The video, posted on Facebook by road safety page SG Road Vigilante, shows the driver and passenger, along with several bystanders, rushing forward to help the injured motorcyclist. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has since confirmed that it was alerted to the accident at about 6.20pm. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries but declined to be taken to the hospital. The dashcam footage has since gone viral, garnering over 300,000 views and sparking divided opinions among netizens. Some argued that the motorcyclist should not have overtaken from the left, while others criticised the driver for not pulling closer to the kerb or turning on hazard lights to indicate the passenger's intention to alight. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
