PDRM Special Branch Showcases Anti-Terrorism Exhibition At National Unity Week In Batu Kawan
Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division (E8) staff officer ACP Ridzuan Abdul Aziz said the exhibition is also intended to enhance public understanding of terrorism threats and the importance of community cooperation in countering such activities.
'We at Bukit Aman Special Branch E8 are bringing the exhibition closer to the public to clearly explain what terrorism and extremism are, so people can understand and avoid involvement in such activities, which not only harm individuals but also the nation,' he told Bernama at the event.
He added that while the exhibition is rarely held, it was featured at the Batu Kawan SMP this time to showcase various items to the public, including homemade bombs made by terrorist groups, terrorism-related books and terrorist passports.
The SMP 2025, held at Batu Kawan Stadium, Penang, will run from July 17 to 20 and feature 35 engaging activities for visitors.
Among the highlights of the exhibition, Ridzuan said, are displays of seized items used in terrorist activities, visual presentations of high-profile arrest operations and interactive sessions with E8 officers who explain the processes of detecting and monitoring extremist elements.
Through the exhibition, police aim to educate the public on the early signs of involvement in terrorism, while stressing the vital role of public awareness in curbing the spread of extremism and radical ideologies.
'Previously, some Malaysians were influenced by foreign terrorist groups, such as those operating in Syria. However, in recent times, we have observed a shift towards domestic terrorism,' he said.
'That is why we are presenting this exhibition, to prevent, especially young people, from falling prey to terrorist groups, as they are highly exposed to such content through social media. These groups actively recruit through platforms like Telegram,' he added.

PASIR MAS: Two out of six Malaysians previously detained by Thai authorities over drug-related offences, including dikir barat singer Eda Ezrin, returned to Malaysia on Thursday (Aug 7) evening. Eda Ezrin, whose real name is Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan, and Nur Aida Mamat, 33, are currently under the custody of the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID). Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the remaining four individuals are still in Thailand, pending passport activation before they can be repatriated. "All six are assisting Thai authorities with further investigations," he told Bernama. The four still held in Thailand have been identified as Eridieka Mohd Noor, 33; Zuhaira Nasrin; Eda Ezrin's husband, Mohd Affendi Ahmad, 35; and Mohamad Alif Deraman, 33. Meanwhile, Eda Ezrin's father, Wan Ismail Wan Yusuf, 52, expressed relief and gratitude following her return to Malaysia, when he was met outside the Rantau Panjang police station on Thursday night. Earlier on Thursday, Bernama observed family members gathered at the police station as Eda Ezrin was being questioned by narcotics investigators. She and five other Malaysians, including her husband, were released by the Narathiwat Prison Court about 11 am (local time) after Thai prosecutors failed to present witnesses or evidence to support an appeal. The group had been detained since Nov 1 last year after being accused of possessing 6,059 Yaba pills. On Wednesday (Aug 6), the court dismissed the prosecution's sixth attempt to extend the appeal deadline. Two men arrested in Lahad Datu over RM2 million smuggled cigarettes
LAHAD DATU: The Marine Police Force arrested two men in an early morning operation at Batu 8, Jalan Silam. The suspects, aged 32 and 38, were detained with two vans carrying contraband cigarettes worth over RM2 million. Sabah Region 4 PPM Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim confirmed the operation took place around 1 am. 'Checks on the vehicles uncovered piles of black plastic bags containing a large quantity of various brands of cigarettes,' he said. The seized cigarettes, believed to be smuggled from a neighbouring country, totalled more than 1.62 million sticks. Mohd Nazri stated the case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967. He urged the public to cooperate by reporting criminal activities to curb smuggling. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to safeguard the country's borders. - Bernama

Police wrapping up case of Iranians who robbed 'hypnotised' tourists in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: Police are finalising investigation papers on the case of five Iranian nationals who were arrested for investigation into the alleged theft of money from foreign tourists around the George Town city centre last Saturday. Acting Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said all five, aged between 19 and 35, have finished their police remand and are currently being remanded by the Immigration Department until Aug 15. "Police are still conducting investigations from various angles including the possibility of their involvement in similar cases in other places (other states) however, there have been no findings so far. "Investigations so far show that they are involved in three cases reported in the George Town area and we are completing the investigation papers before it is sent to the deputy public prosecutor's office for further action," he said when contacted by Bernama today. He said police were also still waiting for a response from the Immigration Department to confirm the authenticity of the passports of the five Iranians, including a married couple, and records of their entry and exit in the country. Mohd Alwi said his party was investigating the cases under Section 379 of the Penal Code (for theft) and Section 380 the same act in addition to Section 6 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Last Saturday, police arrested the three men and two women at Plaza Gurney during Op Tourist to assist in the investigation into the theft of money from foreign tourists who were believed to have been swindled through trickery around the city centre, where the suspects are believed to possess expertise to swindle with sweet-talking skills to carry out the crime such as casting victims under a spell or a charm (pukau) before stealing their money. Police received three reports of cash theft involving tourists in a hypnosis scam (pukau) that occurred in the Pulau Tikus and Jalan Penang areas involving victims who were Taiwanese, Dutch and Syrian nationals, all aged between 29 and 52, in incidents from July 30 to Aug 1.
