Aamir Khan's Mahabharat project may start this year. Veteran screenwriter and SS Rajamouli's father, Vijayendra Prasad, revealed Aamir had once approached him for the film.
Veteran screenwriter and filmmaker SS Rajamouli's father, Vijayendra Prasad, recently revealed that Aamir Khan had once approached him for Mahabharat. However, there haven't been any updates from the superstar about the long-standing film.
Aamir Khan's Mahabharat has been in the ideation phase for years. Recently, the actor said that work on the film is likely to start this year. Amid this, Vijayendra Prasad reflected on his past conversation with Khan about the film. He told PTI, 'Sometime ago, he (Aamir) came (to me) with an idea to make Mahabharat. I don't know what happened afterwards." When asked if he would like to be a part of Mahabharat made by son Rajamouli, the Rajya Sabha MP said, 'His ultimate goal is to make Mahabharata."
He also reflected on a conversation he once had with son, Rajamouli. 'One day, my son Rajamouli asked me, 'Father, can you tell me which way India is rich?' I was trying to find an answer when he said, 'India is rich in stories'. We have Mahabharata and Ramayana. So, we have to encash this. That is our property, our richness. We are blessed with such stories."
However, Aamir isn't the only Khan who has approached Vijayendra Prasad for his film. Last year, Salman Khan met him to discuss the sequel of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. And reportedly, things looked positive. 'I met Salman last Eid. I narrated a line to him, he liked it. But let's see what happens," said the Magadheera writer.
About Aamir Khan's Mahabharat, the actor expressed his desire to start work on the film this year. He told The Hollywood Reporter that the ambitious project will release in multiple parts, like the Lord of the Rings franchise. He further mentioned that it might take a while to greenlight the project since the writing itself will take a few years.
The Andaz Apna Apna actor added that he's not sure whether he will act in Mahabharat yet. He mentioned that the team will pick actors based on who fits each role. 'We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part," he said. The star mentioned that he may not direct the film himself because it's a big project and will need several films to tell the full story. 'I don't think you can tell the Mahabharat in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale," he said. Aamir further noted that it maybe a multi-director project. 'It's too early to say, but we may need multiple directors," he concluded.
